If he does leave, this is the spot that makes the most sense for him. And it will be an awesome storyline. I’ll remind everybody again what a terrible coach Mike Zimmer was universally considered to be around here. Until he left and immediately wasn’t.

Garrett's agent floating the story and the Giants having interest aren't mutually exclusive. Maybe the agent is using the media to let Jerry know that Garrett has options and he should tread lightly.

Personally, I don't think this was pulled out of thin air. There are lots of reasons why he would be a fit there and why the Giants would have serious interest. Mara seems like the Garrett version of owners personality-wise.

Mara had a serious interest in Jason long before he was hired by Jerry. In fact, Mara believed Garrett had serious GM potential. So I agree, this potentially has legs......

Should have been fired after those 8-8 seasons. He inherited a team with a Franchise Qb, A HOF TE and WR and many other good to great players. It doesn't take a decade to build a championship squad. The 49ers are about to go on a second run to the SB. Wouldn't doubt the Ravens end up there as well. Another rebuilding effort that didn't last a decade. Garrett feasts on beating bad teams. He's just lucky the NFC East has been as bad as it has.

Uh, how lont has it been since the 49ers did anything, you better check your records, the last I checked they are stuck at 5 SB wins like we are. Your memory is not very good. Garrett took over a team that had an old OLINE, a sorry Defense, and iffy RBs, before they drafted MUrray who was injury prone before he was finally able to stay healthy for a full season in 2014. He had to dismantle the OLINE piece by piece, rember Leanard Williams they got old and could not sustain their play a full game. yes we had Romo and Witten and a headache at WR, TO(who is one of my favorite WRs), no you are not being truthful. Regardless of what you think it takes time to build a team to last for a long time, and rebuilding the right way takes more than just the rebuilding of the players we had to rebuild our salary cap budget, as well as our scouting dept. and staff, FO, (the Front office mentally). Nah bruh, I disagree with you in a big way. You're letting you perceivedopinion of Garrett cloud your thinking

If you’re able to look honestly at his production and at the team he built in Dallas, you’d maybe come to a different conclusion about him as a coach.

Either way, someone will give the guy a shot when his time is up here. NY would be the best possible storyline, but one way or another, we’ll get to see what happens to the mob’s narrative eventually.

I’m sorry, but where did I say Payton was a great coach? Whether he is or isn’t, Payton has won a SB with a perennial loser of a team and has coached competitive playoff caliber teams with them, so he has been more successful than Garrett by the standard.

Yeah, 1 SB, but he is not that much better than Garrett he has more wins I would say because he has been a HC longer 29 more wins than garrett. Nah, you take Peyton, I will take Garrett all day everyday

The board hated him every bit as much as they hate Garrett.

The good news is they all loved Zimmer now, too. Nobody’s quite sure how and when that happened, it it conveniently did.

Regardless of what you think it takes time to build a team to last for a long time. Other teams do it in shorter times than Garrett has. And I don't even think he's really rebuilt the team to win. The team is never prepared. He never out coaches any real good coach. All I heard this year was this was the most talented team since the 90's. they sure haven't played like it. I give him credit for sticking with Dak over an injured Romo in 2016. I gave him quite a lot of credit that year but when you add it all up Garrett can beat bad teams rather consistently. He rarely beats real good teams. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I think this season ends the same way all of Garrett's seasons end like.

Sounds like there's mutual interest there.

I don't think the Giants are that desperate or dumb. But if they want him they can have him. It will ensure mediocrity for as long as Mara is willing to tolerate it.

Uhh. I actually liked zimmer here, Parcells kept him around his entire tenure which told me all I need to know about the quality of coach he is.

the flip side of that for me is that I would never hire him as a head coach. He is no different than Garrett and just can not get over the hump even though he has everything he could want as a coach. Zimmer never shut up about having depth on the line and fast linebackers that could tackle well....he has everything he needs in Minnesota and his results have no better than Garrett's who also has everything he needs.

If zimmer loses in the first round this year he and the GM in minnesota are going to be under the gun, just like Garrett.
