I miss hitch....he plays with fire and toughness......what i remember of him is that he played 1 week after a bad high ankle sprain, and played well helping the boys win a playoff game.....

and best of all......no nonsense swipe and clear eye bs.....

Hitch was a good player
Smith and LVE are better
The scheme is a big part of it
Small, quick DT’s mean more blockers get to the LB’s
We need a big guy in the middle and a much more aggressive DC to use the quickness we have at DB and LB in more blitzes

lol .. .you're right - this does sound crazy .. Hichens doesnt make big plays ... at least you could say with Jaylon that he has the physical power to jar fumlbes from ball carriers and is more of a blitzer than Hitchens
Hitchens does have a nose for action, but many of his tackles are on his side of the ball vs at the line or in the backfield for losses.

Hitchen was serviceable at best -he's tough and durable, he does not create turnovers , he does not create game changing plays
and just his KC partner , they are liabilities vs pass.

comparing him to LVE is even more insane- neither Hitch nor Wilson dont have nowhere near his athleticism, instincts, knack vs pass, and ability to create turnovers.

KC defense is worse then ours. As I have said before give VanJaylon some tackles and things would be different.

LVE has 12 missed tackles in 9 games, Smith now has 10+ missed tackles as well.

What big plays have they made? At this point, I'll just take a consistently good linebacker rather than flashy linebackers that now get burned.

Another coaching blunder. What do the coaches see in Jaylon that has him as a clear cut better player than our backups? And considering how much of a liability Smith is, if the backups are somehow worse why are any of them on the team? You will not find another starting linebacker, at any linebacker position, playing worse than Smith.

just wondering if missed tackles are counted from when contact was made, because it seems Smith is out of position a lot to not even get a hand on the ball carrier

The biggest thing missing with Hitchens was the depth and versatility at the linebacker spots.

I thought Hitchens played really well in his time here and I do think it was just a matter of his contract demands in free agency that cost us him. I dont remember what he got but at the time his contract seemed high considering what he had done up until that point.

How has he done in KC so far? I know their defense wasnt performing well as a whole early on but they seem to be taking the ball away which is huge for a team that has Mahomes at Qb.

I don't know, but I know going into the Chicago game LVE, Smith, and Lee had a combined 32 missed tackles. And honestly, I would not be surprised if that is now close to 40 after the Bears game.

Having said that, for them ALL to be this poor with tackling, it has to fall on Marinelli.

i'm including their last two years combined with LVE/Jaylon,... not just one down year,
and LVE and Jaylon have already been to pro bowl .. when can we say that from Hitch/Damien ?

yup, it's up to coaches to correct (fundamentals) or remove the problem (bench the player) and neither is happening

Well....that's convenient.

So, LVE and Smith really had a stretch in 2018 where they played at a high level. Smith was average to bad in 2017, LVE was good late in 2018, and they both sucked this season.

I don't care about where Hitchens was drafted or what Smith and LVE are supposed to be. One looks like he will have neck issues down the road, and Smith can't read and react to save his freakin' life.

We can get these kind of performances from JAGs and for cheaper.
