Ok....Paul Brown retired in what 1972? Jerry Buss has been dead for how long? One of the points of this thread is what worked in the past doesn’t work today...and we have the last 23 SB winners as evidence."Not one owner was the GM. Zero."
ever heard of Paul Brown? or his 7 titles?
you know the guy who built the modern NFL? ... never mind
"They never override a coach’s discipline of players."
LOL
the most busy body sports owner is history was Jerry Buss - he was also the most successful
this guy fired Paul Westhead (the year after winning a title) at the suggestion of 20 year old kid named Magic and gave a nobody 2nd year assistant name of Pat Riley the whistle - he didn't care if his players took extreme political stands or impregnated every porn star in LA - and more than once called into live radio shows to cuss out fools who thought they knew how he should run his team
but since we're talking Cowboy football - I'd point that right about 50 years ago a really cool owner, named Clint Murchison, ignored his GM, the press, and silly voices like yours (from the cheap seats) who wanted Landry gone after 9 years and 1 playoff win
Clint signed Tom to a long term deal ... the result - the most successful franchise in NFL history
"IF YOU ARE AN NFL OWNER, AND WANT TO WIN A SUPER BOWL, THERE ARE SOME DO’S AND DON’TS TO FOLLOW"
yep, and it begins with ignoring ding bats
And I would be a little more open to your side of the argument if any of Jerry’s style had worked the last nearly quarter of a century. His results (or lack of results) speak for themselves.
