NFLN group likes the hire. They said it is prudent. Not flashy which is a good thing.
They also said they believe the Cowboys knew what they were doing all along, to take a week, announce Garrett is out, then hire McCarthy the next day. And that this could have been in the works for several weeks.
Put a different way...I expected this announcement from the Browns but not us...we needed the next McVay or Shanahan...not some scrub panic move because he's a safe hire. Thus the Gailey analogy.More pedigreed, as in, vastly more successful?
"Embarrassed their franchise with this hire."
Wow!
They did.
The whole football world was watching and Cowboy nation was gifted a lump of coal for Christmas after putting up with Wade Phillips and a decade of Jason Garrett.
A high profile high upside coach was needed to get the fans and players rejuvenated and excited again.
They went with dull, boring, and a guy that had the same questions as our last coach because of how poor he is on game day.
Cowboys didn't embarrass themselves hiring McCarthy, its you cause you never liked the guy, would you rather have the Clapper? The Cowboys embarrassed their franchise with this hire and did nothing to get their fan base excited again.
They just did the NFL a solid by bringing back one of their good ole boys.
Should have had at least 3 rings with AR...underachieved.Sean Payton: 131-77 record, .630 winning percentage, 6 division titles, 8-7 playoff record, 3 NFC title games, 1 Super Bowl ring
Mike McCarthy: 125-77-2 record, .618 winning percentage, 6 division titles, 10-8 playoff record, 4 NFC title games, 1 Super Bowl ring
It must be very narrow considering that only two were interviewed. Jerry hired the first coach that would accept his terms. It very well could be. I also don’t think the pool of HC candidates is as broad as we think it is.
Of course you would agree. SAS is an ***. No credibility when it comes to knowing ANYTHING about football. Just a talking heads jackass.
I like it because it doesn't smell like the typical flashy thing Jerry would normally do.

I'm pretty excited somebody else besides Clappy is wearing the headset now.The Cowboys embarrassed their franchise with this hire and did nothing to get their fan base excited again.

The usual haters are out in force. They’ve been waiting at the keyboard for days for the new head coach announcement. No matter who it was.

for years we wanted change, and now that the day ha come, you are all butthurt, let's see what the rest of the staff looks like first.I'd rather have neither.
I'd rather have a guy with some upside and not an offensive minded coach that got fired because they sucked at coaching offense.

I agree with everything said here..
Very lackluster and a complete retread hire.
Rex says this is a bridge to them naming Jason Witten the Head Coach in a few years.
What a joke.
