Would you interview just two people for your job?

I thought about including this in one of the multiple threads on the new hire, but feel it would just get lost and ignored. But I'd like to present this question, if you were hiring for a job, any job, much less the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Would you interview just two people and then call it a day?

I see again simple things fly right past you. The Lewis interview was just to cover the Art Rooney rule. With only interviewing McCarthy it's obvious to most that while Jerry and Stephen were having their discussions and doing their research on who they wanted to be the next head coach they agreed that if they could get McCarthy he's their guy. So they brought him in and didn't let him leave the building without signing him. Why waste their time and the time of others who would come to interview if they got the guy they wanted all along especially when their guy is also wanted by several other teams.

Pressure was on, it was just reported that the Giants wanted McCarthy bad and he was going to head back there for a 2nd interview + Cleveland was looming in the background as well.

It was a predictable Jerry hire. He was always going to be a sucker for a coach with a great resume and there weren't many out there who were realistic. Urban Meyer seems to have been a pipedream and I wouldn't expect Jerry to take a risk on a college coach or current assistant with no HC experience.

All McCarthy had to do was flash his SB ring and Jerry was sold.

No. But really we don’t know what went on in back channels etc, and if they really wanted McCarthy and he presented himself as advertised then ... maybe?

if the hire was say Lincoln Riley with no other interviews then I don’t think anyone would bat an eye.

Listening to Glazer on Cowherd. He basically said MM was going to be the Giants new coach. The Cowboys had to move fast.

Yeah, you rubber stamp anything and everything this team does like a mindless, brainless shill, and have the nerve to claim anything goes past anyone else.

They could have kept Garrett and idiots like you would have hailed it as a shred move.

Retail chains put more thought into their hires than this team did.

Depends.

Did I just come off a 4 day JW Blue Bender?

If so, then I might be inclined to cut the interview process short just so I could be done with it.

Mike McCarthy slept at Jerry's house last night. What does that tell you? This decision was already made

If I had someone targeted and felt he was in demand I wouldn't waste time.

No hiring manager would keep their job if they ever hired the 2nd person they talked to. But again, this is the Joneses and the Cowboys...

The normal rules of business have never applied.

If one of the two candidates absolutely impressed, why not?

At the company I work for, there have been times, on more than a handful groups, where the first 2 or 3 people to interview was the person we hired out of 20. The only reason we still did the 20 is that we already invited them, paying for travel and lodging for those coming from out-of-state. It would be rude and unprofessional to not interview them all. But had those plans not already been made, then we would have stopped interviewing right away.

And in cases we have interviewed a person previously, and they impressed but were not as good of a fit for the original position as the person that was hired, if another opportunity opened that fit their skill set there has been times we would call that interviewee first to see if they were interested before starting a new set of interviews.

Interviewing for a position is not about the volume of people to interview, it is finding the right person for said position.

I was expecting a much larger pool.
We could assume some of the bigger fish just weren't interested in a relationship with JJ.

The Cowboys embarrassed the franchise over the past week.

They needed a high profile coach brought in here for many different reason and instead the brought in a offensive coach who was fired because of how bad his offensive scheme were.
Catch, you don't think Moore can be creative enough on offense. He gives up on the running game to fast but if we get a real tight end to pair with Jarwin, the team won't be as predictable. I think you could not have asked more from a first year coordinator. I bet he will call plays and not MM.

Interviewing for a position is not about the volume of people to interview, it is finding the right person for said position.

But its most certainly about a thorough hiring process. Two people is the opposite of that.
