Signed by Cowboys Mike Nolan is our new Defensive Coordinator

Man I’m already going crazy for the draft. I can’t wait till Nolan comes in the war room and tells Jerry “ give me the fattest DT guy left on the board”.
You guys are selling Garrett way short! I know he doesn't have a body like Rob Ryan or even Mike McCarthy, but Garrett is working skinny fat like a boss.. Heck he would make Joan Rivers sit up and take notice!

Yep. The biggest winners here are Jaylon and LVE. He’s going to turn them both into all pros.

He definitely can't hurt. Although LVE is a big (?) . I want to see what LBs Nolan can attract here...

The DL has 3 players you can count on returning - Lawrence, Armstrong and Woods. Hill returns but not sure you can really count on him at all.

The rest are UFAs or cap related cuts(Crawford).
A ton of work needed to rebuild the DL.

I'm pretty pumped about getting someone from the Saints, even if Nolan doesn't have the best record as DC.

th
Yeah, right.
We have the best talent , best coaching and best owner. What could stop us. Super Bowl Baby!!!!

Aggressive defenses tend to be like that
When you have the players you can dominate an offense but you are playing a ton of man so vulnerable to the big play
Personally I think our DB’s are better in man than zone

I get that. Bottom third defenses are not good, aggressive or not.

We are definitely winning the Super Bowl.
I’m glad to hear some positive things about this new coaching staff they are working on. I’m looking forward to free agency, the draft, and next season. It’s like a new fresh start with some coaches that want to win! Finally!

He has the young Parcells bod

Aggressive but he will need to solidify the secondary because he relies on man and blanket coverage to bring the heat up front:

Unlike the passive coverages and blitzes seen under Van Gorder, Mike Nolan employs a tenacious defense bent on pressuring the QB and overwhelming the offensive line. This involves blitzes from the LB corps, and coordination amongst the Front Seven. Nolan's aggressiveness leaves the secondary in some tight positions, relying on man coverage with safety blankets from the safeties. Thus with a solid secondary, Nolan is allowed to be more creative with his blitzes.

From his Atlanta stint...
Get ready to see LVE at defensive end folks. 4-3 will look like a 5-2

Nolan has had some great defenses and some really bad ones. I have no idea what to think at this point outside of a hope for a big man in the middle of the DL finally. I still have nightmares about Nick Hayden and Marinelli talking him up.
Agressive hybrids are fun for us fans to talk about, and they probably have the highest upside of any type of scheme. However you need to be a top level play caller like Lewis or Rex Ryan to consistently get results. Blitz timing, locations and matchups are critical. If cant observe the field, and see what to call when and where, you will get destroyed. We saw that first hand with Rob

Marv Lewis hybrids are very low floor/high ceiling to me

Nolan comes from that school. But Im not sure what his scheme these days. He was Baltimore's DC in between Lewis and Ryan. That was a long time ago

He is a good defensive coordinator. He has many years of experience running defenses. He isn't a one size fits all type of DC. He runs multiple formations, blitz schemes and wants to put full pressure on the QBs. He doesn't have a good record as DC with some of those teams. But lets face it. Those teams lacked talent. I think you give him talented players, he will use them to the best of his advantage.
