Why would McCarthy choose Dallas?

Of Jerry is convinced then why hasn't Dak already been signed?

When has Jerry ever waited to pay someone big $$? Zeke is the longest he's waited in decades and even then he signed him before season started.
Maybe Dak should hold out. lol

The alternative was Cleveland. I mean, it's a no brainer if you are McCarthy.

Fair enough, but if you think every coach that comes here is an idiot for accepting the job it makes for a pretty doomed season. Obviously your prerogative

My problem with that thought process is people have blabbered about how we cant get a legitimate coach for years and its just not true. McCarthy's coaching abilities can be debated, but his resume can't. Neither can the interest from other teams.

Which leads me to believe its not as bad as people believe it to once be. He hired his D coordinator and it appears he will fill out the rest of HIS staff. Key for me is that he calls the plays, anything less will be a red flag.
Man...I dunno, I was never impressed with him in GB and think Rodgers carried him. We’ll find out soon enough when he doesn’t have a HOF’er taking snaps. The only positive I can think of is that he has allegedly been studying film and reanalyzing his own coaching methods during the off season.

I’m also very skeptical of coaches who call their own plays, it seems like they inevitably screw up game management during the most crucial moments and that includes Payton and Reid. I wasn’t big on Lincoln Riley and don’t like Urban as a person but I would have been more excited about either one of them.

He effectively has been in a certain sense

Jerry threw $30 million on the table before the season started and Dak passed

If Jerry was truly sold he'd have met Dak's price by now, or came close enough to get him to sign. Jerry can't help himself when he sees something he wants. Zero impulse control

Packers? You mean the game where he almost threw for 500 yards? And and I recall him destroying the Eagles.

With all due respect, you can do this with any QB. "Hey look, they had a few bad games!" You are the type who screamed about Romo when he was here and now cries over his absence.
yeah, he tore up the Packers in the 2nd half when the pack was in a prevent defense the entire 2nd half as they were up by like 50. Had he tore up the eagles a couple weeks ago, wed have been in the playoffs.

The Cowboys offered Dak at least $30 million per year for 7 years. I would hope they are convinced lol. Dak doesn't want to sign a deal that long unless he is getting $35+ because salaries are expected to skyrocket under the new cba.

I think its more than allegedly studying film and self evaluating. Did you watch the Peter King interview? He comes off as an absolute football junkie. He formed the "McCarthy group" where him and former coaches tear through old and current film, look at trends, and analyze what other teams are doing. He did that regularly throughout last year. He came into the league working analytics and plans to take more of an analytical approach going forward. He understands its not about the data but interpreting it and using it in the context of that game. I really liked how humble he presented himself and his apparent willingness to grow with the game. After the past regime's stubborn arrogance it is very refreshing. Im also encouraged with the success hes had with quarterbacks going all the way back to Montana and Young. I have no idea how much Rodgers carried him and I have my own doubts as well. That said I think its very promising hire. Time will tell, for now Im just happy to be rid of Garrett and Marinelli.

1) McCarthy, like most of us, could easily see that this team underachieved under Garrett. He's not in a rebuilding situation, but one where he only should need to add a few parts to possibly achieve immediate success.
We're losing a lot of defensive players. It needs a lot. At the same time, we're losing a big chunk of cap space to keep Dak, and maybe Cooper.

Step back in talent. Step forward in coaching. A little better.

4) And the most important one is that Jerry has given MM full reign over on the field operations including getting rid of or adding players of his choice, hiring or firing of coaches without input, deciding who starts and who doesn't, etc.
I think he is letting up on the grip.

I did not watch the Peter King interview but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I just hope you’re right and I hope Jerry becomes more obsolete than he has with other coaches.

BTW, I also have nothing against him, he seems like a good dude and I obviously hope he proves me wrong. I’m definitely more optimistic about him as our HC than Garrett but I still think this team’s “talent” is extremely over rated.

If I’m McCarthy, I’m thinking I had a GREAT resume destroyed by my last 2 years. So, where is the best place for me to rebuild my legacy? Let me go to arguably the most popular/loved franchise is American Sports History. If I can turn that talented yet underachieving team back into an NFC Championship-level squad, my talents can no longer be brushed off as second rate - ESPECIALLY if I do this with a QB not as talented as the last 2 I had.........

.........THAT is why I think McCarthy came here.

My guess is

-McCarthy's star has faded. He knows he's not going to get any plum HC jobs with talent in place and/or roster control.
-Jerry offers him a chance to get back in the game, with a talented roster, AND an established quarterback, AND offers him playcalling duties.
-The only catch is, you have to work in the Jerry circus, which drives a lot of top candidates away.
-The Cowboys job requires you to basically be a lapdog, and McCarthy, for all his bluster and "tough guy" attitude, is basically a lapdog.

That's why we got rejected by all the top college HCs, and final-round interviewed the consummate owner lapdog himself, Marvin Lewis.

Did MM just turn down the job in Dallas because his wife refuses to move to Texas?

#6 is an emotional response..

the fact is its not easy to win divisions and go to the 2nd round of the playoffs.. or the playoffs period. Ask all the teams that consistently do NOT..

I know we need to go further but further is an NFCCG appearance, last I checked only 2 teams make that in each conference.

so if it were easy the same teams would do it every year but for the most part outside NE , there are consistently new teams in it.. this year the 2nd round only one team from last year is back..

Lets remember this as I realize we as fans have higher standards for our goal but its not like we were trash garett won 3 divisions in 6 years and got to the second round last year.. easy to surpass that is a lack of understanding or education how hard that is to do..

It should not be difficult to be better than 8 and 8 next year with a good coach and this roster. And I am WAY more fair to Garrett than most fans on this board. You are barking up the wrong tree with me.

“It was like love at first sight,” a source with knowledge of the dynamics between Jones and McCarthy said when explaining the quick move by the Cowboys to make McCarthy the new head coach.

One thing that was an enticement for him was Prescott, the man. After dealing with a prima donna QB with an attitude because he had to sit in the draft and wait to get picked and then sit on the bench and wait to start and then became a poser for the cameras and got into it with his HC on the sideline in front of the team in a game, a guy like Dak, even with some accuracy questions, had to look awfully good to him.

You give a HC a team guy at QB and he's a happy guy. It is easier to work around some of his shortcomings than thinking he's a superstar. Rodgers is a punk and I can't stand him. He acts like no stud QB's came before him in GB.

There are a lot of young QB's that can learn something by watching a journeyman, never was a superstar, QB that played for the Eagles last Sunday. That did not go unnoticed by either team as he saw after the game. We need more of that and less of this superstar action. I was sitting there saying I cannot be pulling for the Eagles but damn, look at that guy dragging himself up and limping to the huddle because he knew they had no one else. Then, he'd take off running in an awkward gate again. That, my friends, is football.

The QB here is pretty good, if I were a coach this is the job I would take no question.

Most of the time when a coaching position opens up there's no QB in place. If you miss on your QB draft pick you are almost certainly going to be fired because QBs have a lot more control over wins and losses than coaches do.
