I wonder if they are serious about bringing him back, or it’s just them giving him their offer and letting him test free agency to sign with another team

If they don't re-sign Jones, you can probably kiss next year goodbye.

You can't replace guys like him easily.

Good cover guy who never misses games. Super reliable.

Interceptions are so low in the NFL nowadays, that isn't that big of a deal with him.
Your takes are always bad. Its actually an accomplishment. Yeh jones was so good our defense was 21st in efficiency. And dak and amari were so bad our offense was 2nd in efficiency.

He's an important player to this team whether people want to acknowledge it or not.

The guy can cover out wide, in the slot, and take on guys like Ertz.

This is a chess piece we need to keep. Giving away an All Pro corner would be a big loss.

I dont think its as big a loss as you would think. You guys give him way to much credit for being an above average athlete

Jones allowed an average of 25 yards per game. What is your definition of efficient?

People are blinded by his INT numbers. The most important number to remember is 25. 25 yards per game allowed. In today's pass happy league. Anyone who thinks he isn't worth being in the upper echelon as far as salary isn't paying attention or doesn't understand what they are seeing.

Because they just picked on chido or jeff heath in coverage doesnt say much. He is not a football player hes an athlete theres a big difference between the two

Couldn't be that they attacked Chido because they wanted nothing to do with going after Byron or because his guy was covered. Nah.

Oh wow. Jones is gone. He will want 14 at least. Can’t swing that. We have Dak and Cooper. Maybe Collins. I have a feeling we will be restructuring contracts. If Crawford wants to stay he will have to take a huge pay cut.

Jones will be resetting the cornerback market. But not here.

No because chido isn't that good. His guy is usually open. Byron is average at best playing zone. Has zero instincts.

The Cowboys are really good at finding stars, but are really bad at finding those mid level guys who you put around the stars. Teams usually have their 7-11 or so "franchise" guys, either under a rookie deal or an extension, but they also surround those guys with average talent so that they can shine. The Cowboys are great at the former but awful at the latter and that creates problems.

It's all about INT's for the nay sayers because Byron Jones is elite at just about everything else.
It's about being a playmaker at the position. TBH do you know how hard it is to actually only have 2 ints in 5 years? Taking a combine warrior in the first round was a mistake. He's terrible against the run and provides nothing in zone. He's literally the reason rodgers was able to complete that pass to jared cook in 2016.

Honestly it is worth paying for a guy who can just take your number 1 guy and say "He doesnt get to beat us". Teams that have CBs who can do that just win. The Bills made the playoffs off of that. The Patriots defense was carrying their team because of that. The Vikings made the playoffs off of that. For all the hype the MVP got, the Ravens had 2 of those guys and won games because of that. Having a great Safety helps with creating turnovers because the CB can take more risks but taking the top player out of the game is the job of your number 1 and having that number 1 is how teams win.

I actually agree with MM that defense gets you to the championship and usually defense starts with having 1-2 elite CBs to lock down their best players and then building around them.
