Will McCarthy have us better than 8-8 or worse?

I don’t think they’ll ALL be gone, we COULD get Gregory and Irving back, and there’s the draft and free agency.

IMO, we won’t be worse than 8-8 and we won’t win the SB. The answer lies somewhere in the middle. Can we at least wait until we actually HAD some misfortune?

Add: Gregory
Lose: Byron, Quinn, Bennett, and Collins

Gregory is a nice plus, but we're still net losing. We'll draft, we'll sign, but they were most of our quality defensive players.

With Gregory coming back, I really doubt Quinn is back. I would doubt it anyway. We're probably hoping to churn the comp pick.
Bennett has no particular reason to come back here. Another comp pick to churn.
Collins is the kind of guy we let leave - quality free agent. We don't sign those on the free agent market unless they're great.
We're not even biting on Byron, who is much better than Collins.

On Irving, we seem like a very *unlikely* landing spot. We need a DT, but there were too many off the field issues between Irving and us. Both sides should move on.

We rarely spend big in free agency. It would be out of character for us. Could happen, but just look at the roster now. Pretty grim, particularly at DT.

But I do see lots of defensive draft picks this year. Besides TE, I don't see us picking an offensive player, and certainly not high.

They will be between 6-10 to 10-6. Between good-ish and bad-ish. Get ready for pretty good-ish seasons. With the capability of winning the division and looking good-ish losing against strong competition. The new identity of this squad. The good-ish Dallas Cowboys!

And if they do not improve it's Garrett's fault.

All it takes is (another) coaching change for some to buy into Jerry's Cowboys again.

This team needs to have a really solid draft, then we can start speculating on MMs influence.
Fingers crossed.

I need to see the schedule and what we do in FA and the draft.
Almost half of the team are free agents.

Without knowing anything as of now it looks like an 8-8 team. McCarthy makes us a little better but Dak and Amaris contracts make us a little worse so it evens out.

I'm with you about the draft and like you said about almost half the team being FAs. That creates a lot of question marks.
I also agree with others about the special teams and overall coaching improvements. If we can find a better FG kicker, that alone could put us higher than 8-8!
Despite all the question marks, I still think we can do better than 8-8 McCarthy's 1st year.
They're saying our schedule is easy, but it looked pretty rough to me.

Better - with a caveat. 13 seasons as a head coach only 3 losing seasons, 6 division championships and 9 playoff appearances. His record speaks for itself. McCarthy has shown that if he has talent, he’ll produce results.
The caveat is, I have no idea who will be on this roster in September 1. Will Dak be on a franchise tag and refuse to play? Will they resign Cooper? Is Randy Gregory coming back? Will Vander Esch be fully healed? How about Byron Jones? Robert Quinn? Sean Lee? Blake Jarwin???
I honestly can’t remember an off-season with so many free agents and other decisions.
None of us knows what this roster is going to look like - I could probably paint you 4 or 5 different pictures.

That's the biggest question mark.

It's very well known here that many didn't like Garrett but ti exaggerate with a 0-16 record is a little over the line. I didn't like a lot of things Garrett did but he never had a 0-16 season.
.

But he had a bunch of 8 and 8 seasons which is just as bad. If we had gone 0 and 16 we would have the first pick in the draft and Jerry would not have kept Garrett this long.

Did I read someone called that schedule easy?

It looks good on paper when you're playing the worst team, (2-14 Cincinnati), have 2 games against the 2nd worst team, (3-13 Washington), and 2 games against the 4th worst team (4-12 Giants). 9 wins, 39 losses in that bunch (.1875).

We also get teams with the 8th worst record, (5-11 Cardinals), 9th worst record, (6-10 Cleveland), and 10th worst record, (7-9 Falcons).

So half the schedule is made up of teams that finished in the lowest third of the league finishing 27-68 in 95 games (.285).

The other half the schedule finished 74-38 (.660).

Don't put much faith in what they tell you without looking at what they don't.

8-8 is the worst thing a team can do.
Like you say, you then pick in middle of draft, and as a rule you wont make playoffs, so much better to
just lose most of the games and pick at the top.
Or do better and make the playoffs.

yes and also it is a new season, you cant count on losers being losers again this season.
Dallas was basically a loser too, but we know they can do better this season.

Will McCarthy have us better than 8-8 or worse?

If the team is able to keep their top three free agents in Prescott, Cooper, and Quinn, I think they're a double-digit win team already. And anything they would add otherwise in free agency and then the draft could push them even higher.

We finally have an NFL-caliber coaching staff.

Washington should make a leap under Rivera. All the better if they draft Chase Young.
The Giants are an unknown under Joseph. He's said he's impressed with Garrett's knowledge of the different offensive systems so he'll likely rely on Garrett a lot.
Cleveland needs to get everything sorted out. Can they do it under Stefanski?
And Kingsbury another unknown.

Lot of unknowns this season.

Still so much time trying to defend Garrett. That veil of 'objectivity' is shattered. You've outed yourself.
