Something about it came across my Facebook news feed but I ignored it.

Looks like idle fan chatter to me.

If the Cowboys were unwilling to give up the exorbitant asking price of a 1st and two 2nd's last year, in yet another vain effort to save a worthless head coach from being fired, they're not about to pay it now, six months later, and another year into the player's cheap rookie contract.

The draft is about acquiring cheap labor for as long as you can, not about giving up premium draft assets to pay top-of-the-market money for someone else's player.

I wouldn't want to give up a 1st for anyone that's not absolutely critical. A pass rusher, QB, CB1 or WR1 and it can be justified, a strong safety?...... no thankyou

Guess the question is would you do it for 17 straight up?

BTW...anyone remember what we originally offered?

Too rich for my blood. Plus, the Jones boys have to give him $14M or more on top of the draft capital. Nah...

Edit: My comment remains the same even if the Cowboys only give up pick number 17.

I hope not.....they're doing for the moon plus he's another one that wants to be the "highest paid" .......you can't have an entire roster of divas that think they should be the highest paid.

With a new coaching staff, maybe they've cooled down on this trade front(hopefully).

GL to any team giving up a 1st and two 2nds.

I agree. I view it as the final attempt to 'play now, pay later' and save Garrett's hide. Just like the Cooper deal was the year before. Mortgaging future assets in an effort to bail you out today. Not a good business plan at all. I hope the idea left the building with the prior regime.

You either:
  1. Draft a quality young player by using a significant draft pick or picks
  2. You spend big money on a proven quality free agent player
What you do NOT do is both.

One thing to keep in mind, after Dak's deal is done, we have no more major ones coming up for a while.

Why why why do this?
A 1 and 2 2's is utterly ridiculous plus 15m a year deal.

Pick mckinney at 17.....or in a small move back....

Bingo. I felt it was a last ditch effort by Garrett, possibly the assistant coaches feeling the squeeze of losing their jobs and the Joneses wanting to make a superbowl run.

One thing if the Jets were willing to trade him for a 2nd and a 5th, but a first ++ is stupid.

@Hawkeye0202 , true, unless Awuzie/Lewis plays well enough to retain.
Or will they be willing to restart the secondary again?

Would gladly send them pick 17 for Adams. Chances are the board will completely suck by our pick

You guys are using the Cooper trade as an example of what not to do. But Cooper revitalized our offense (and our QB!) and that's what kept us competitive for the past two years.

This could be a rare chance to get one of the league's best young players, and a far superior player to anyone who'd be available at 17

I believe they wanted 2 1's and a 2. Nothing against the player, but want no part of him even for pick #17. He is a good player, but not a game changer. He is on the last yr of his contract and wants to be paid as the highest safety. Team needs to find quality talent on rookie deals or their cap structure will go up in smoke.

I think its been manufactured by DFW sports talk folks. I love the player and will buy a jersey asap, after I am done saying they can't afford to pay everyone!

They want a 1st and two 2nd. Then we will have the hassle of resigning him to around 14 million a year.

No thanks. They can keep him.

The old asking price was a 1st and 2 2nd's but he's lost a year of his contract since then.

I'd absolutely give up this year's 1st round pick and pay his salary.

Jamal Adams is 24 years old and he's already the best safety in the league. Going from Jeff Heath + Xavier Woods to Adams + Haha Clinton-Dix is like going from Chad Hutchinson to Roger Staubach.

The Cowboys have the salary cap room to sign him. So removing money from the equation, would you rather have Jamal Adams, K'Lavon Chaisson or Xavier McKinney? Pretty easy choice for me.

Now if any of CeeDee Lamb, Javon Kinlaw or CJ Henderson, are there at 17, you take one of them. But if they're all gone, which is likely, then I'd make the call if all it took was this year's 1st.

"Competitive"? Is that what 8-8 is now? And losing to every team we face with a winning record? Is that 'success' to you?

What it is is giving up too much in draft assets for the privilege of setting the salary market for a strong safety.

Which is dumb.
