Camp fodder. Gotta have guys who can play a few downs. Just because we sign someone at this point, there's assurance that he'll make the team. From what I'm reading, he's unlikely to make the gameday roster.

2019: Started 15 or 15 games played.
2018: Started 9 or 10 games played.
2017: Started 14 of 15 games played.
2016: Started 11 or 16 games played.

yeah , I'm not saying he's terrible, but definitely more of a cover CB. don't think safety would look good on him.
Or end up being a liability. I wish they would just get a safety and be done with it...

maybe they are bringing in guys who are good at press so others can learn from their technique and as insurance if someone is slow to pick it up

I would say to those who think Chido, Lewis and Brown are bad, remember how they played in 2018, same goes for the linebackers... I think last year was an anomaly. I think the coaches lost this team and it showed in their performance. When you no longer believe in the schemes you are running, you won't succeed. This kid Worley sure seems like a safety project for Nolan at 215lbs. I just want to see this entire roster perform under REAL NFL COACHING! As NONE of the players that have come up through the system in Dallas have ever played one game under an NFL caliber coach. At least the free agents who came here have.

Good point on last year being an anomaly. I think scheme had a lot to do with it too. We’ve got the big bodies to play physical, press coverage and I can’t wait to see how guys like Chido, Brown and Lewis adapt to this style and perhaps they’re better suited for it. Also, not everything is going to get fixed in one off season but I’d say we’re doing a helluva job so far so let’s see how it plays out.

I think some of you guys are overthinking this.

The coaches want four to five guys that can play press-man. We drafted two. We have signed several. I think Chido will get his chance to see if he can cut it, if not, he tries safety, if he can't cut that - he is traded for a late round pick to some team that needs a corner. The best four or five press corners and Brown, as the slot corner, will be our CBs in 2020.

I think the new staff likes Brown as the slot corner, which is why they gave him that large contract. The guy that is totally out of luck is Lewis. I am not going to pretend to know a lot about DB play, but the last staff preferred Brown to Lewis and based on the contract, this staff obviously does too.

Isn't it too early for people to be freaking out over signing another CB? Oh, I forgot where I am posting. :muttley:

Before the draft many were saying sign more CB's (as well as S's) even if they draft a CB. AND Worley's name came up as a possible signee, along with Kirkpatrick.
Now they complain Worley is signed saying he is a bum. The tweet about him is one persons opinion.

He is signed, but doesn't mean he makes the team, doesn't mean another CB is gone. It means TC competition, and for depth.
I have not followed his career in the NFL. So won't comment if a good signing or not. However I though he played some S while with the Raiders.

He has experience playing box safety and matching up with TEs. He did well against Kelce. At worst, he is competition with Lewis for nickel CB. At best, he could beat out Woods at SS. Plus, he’s added depth at boundary CB. He’s the same type of DB “chess piece” that Bellichick typically signs. Remember, Bellichick signed Devin McCourty, moves him to S, and he’s done a great job there. In a primary press man scheme, you need coverage S’s. This guy can be one of them.

Everyone please look at these #s before quickly writing off free agent CBs as JAGs. Lewis and Brown are the most overrated Cowboys in recent memory.

Brown is capable but inconsistent

Lewis makes an occasional play but overall he is very average

Chidobe is underrated and a quality starter overall
Diggs should start opposite

Canady looked promising and got quite a bit of burn with Baltimore and looked very serviceable

It's not the best group in the NFL but it's not disastrously bad either. If we get more pass rush with improved safety play we will be fine on the back end.

Call me an optimist but with McCarthy and Nolan seemingly wanting more press coverage and drafting two guys that are very good at it and then signing another after the draft in Worley, it leaves me wondering what does Dallas need to really complete an offseason. I believe most fans somehow believe that getting a SS would make us a very solid team defensively, better than last year. We all know the target as we inquired about him last year in Jamal Adams, Jets star safety who is in a bit of a salary dispute with the Jets.

One of the top needs for the Jets in the draft was to find a starting corner. Check out their roster of no name CBs. They draft one in Hall at 158 who is a good one although the reason he went so late was due to injury. They really do need a good starting cornerback and they drafted another possible starting safety in the top of the 3rd round. They also need help on the DL at DT.

Now we know Jerry isn't going to give up a 1st for Adams and the Jets obviously want a lot for Adams but they are the ones in the pickle so what about trading say either Awuzie or Lewis plus say Antwan Woods or Hill and say a 4th for Adams. If it was Awuzie and Hill who are both former 2nd round picks, it could be a good deal for both teams. Dallas gets there starting SS abet having to sign him to a new 5 year mega deal while the Jets get a starting CB who they will have to resign and a kid in Hill who they suggested last year they would have taken him in the 3rd round.

Now wouldn't that be a kicker of a trade. Wonder what fans would think of the offensive and defensive then. Just a thought but looking at both rosters, needs still for both, money it is going to take to resign guys for both, calm locker rooms for both , well it makes good sense for both. Sure some will disagree and some will think no way Jets take less than a 1st but did anyone think Clowney would only get Houston a 3rd or Hopkins a 3rd or a number of other examples of teams taking less due to money issues. Sure might not happen but it isn't out of realm of possibilities when you look at schemes and coaching staffs.

Maybe...my point was according to the metrics posted by KingofTheNorth on page 4, Lewis/Brown are essentially the same quality of CB as the FAs Cowboy fans are quick to dismiss as JAGs. I don't believe this new coaching staff has any reason to favor one guy over another.

So many corners

Doesnt bode well for Chido imo

Diggs
Lewis
Brown
Robinson
Canady
Worley
Chido

We are only keeping 5 of these guys
well, there has been talks that Chido may move to safety. we have Dixon signed for one year only, so if Chido shows well as a safety, then we might have found our missing Saftey…..Byron Jones made the opposite move....
