How can anyone still defend what we had coaching wise after this offseason?

As far as profitability/marketability, jerry still reigns supreme. I totally agree with you on that. But when it comes to player development, player acquisition or contracts, Stephen is now the man imo.

I guess I view Jerry's extreme narcicism as the ultimate undoing of all things you feel Stephen is now in charge of. Yes, daddy is still ego centric to the point where credit can not even be shared with Junior.

So, for all the things you mention that Stephen now runs, what is being accomplished if Papa undermines it all in the long run?

The Cowboys are the ultimate example of trying to win in "spite of" normal circumstances or how all other teams accomplish winning trophies.

But with all this being said...

Honest answer now...

Do you believe the first act by Stephen as the "actual"head man in charge (once Jerry passes away or mentally incapacitated) would be to officially name McClay or whomever as team GM?

If not, I'm not sure how ultimately different he is from Pop.

You still rock my brother.

Agree to disagree

In all honesty. Not even a year into the McCarthy era and we have revamped our entire DL, had our best draft in years, have brought in a great staff who are all excellent at what they do, and Jerry has been very quiet. How can anyone defend what has been going on under the prior regime? I’m honestly asking.

Well, you see....Tom Landry....blah, bluh bluh, blah, bluh bluh, blah blah blah.

Realistically, there aren't very many defending what the Cowboys did last year!

Those who do aren't open to much of anything positive occuring in the present. o_O

There are still a few holdouts, three names comes to mind.

But I'm too classy to call them out by name.

When the results on the field come in then I might applaud.

You've offered up a few occasions where we haven’t gotten cheap but I can offer up a few where he has Like Dak so far, Dez and Murray. Might throw in Jones.

There’s others we have released which could be questioned. Bottomline if it doesn’t bring more success, who cares. I’d rather be in Cap hell playing for championships.

And I’m not sure paying Cooper and Elliott were the smart moves if you don’t pay Dak.

How was he cheap with Dak? Offered to make him the 2nd highest paid QB in the NFL is cheap? Ok.

and they paid Dez. The reason they cut him had less to do with money than it had to do with him not being As productive and a head case

I think Stephen would make mcclay the gm when Jerry is no longer the gm. Without a doubt.

exactly what i said , MM did not do this this is all Jerry, Stephen, and McClay..its actually not fair to Garett , if Jerry would have given garett a defense like this the last 3 seasons we would have possible been to the NFCCG or a SB..the rams playoff game wouldnt have happened..now MM gets a better Kicker, better defense and a great draft...

not fair comp at all ..

Pick your poison -- either way, you'll take your chances! Was justice done or was it not!
I'm prone to guessing in favor of the decisions that have taken place thus far this year!! :flagwave:

Not everyone, I guess, shares that optimism. To each his own in the valley of golden dreams.

Sure, Dez was producing less with Dak. Like everyone has with the exception of Cooper at times. And Dez was always a head case but when your a top 5 receiver you tolerate .

And of course we got cheap with Dak. If you believe he’s your guy and a top 10 Qb you make him an offer he can’t refuse . It’ll cost us even more next year.

If we had a defense in 2016 that wouldn’t give up a miraculous 3rd and 20 we go to championship game.

If Dez catch is ruled a catch we probably go in 2014.

And both of those seasons would have been without a top 10 caliber defense.

With the offenses we’ve had under Garrett in our playoff seasons there’s no telling how far we go with a top 10 caliber defense.

exactly my point OP is acting as if MM somehow is responsible for the Offseason and garetts being gone effected .it..it did not hes not the GM, President of player personal asst gm or owner..those are all THE SAME 3 people..

“How has the offseason been any different” is a better question. It was a great draft on paper. As good as 2016? Unlikely, but we’ll see. 2016 didn’t look like a great draft at the time, necessarily.

In UFA, we did a great job filling holes. Because we lost a lot of starters and key players (Cobb, Witten, Fleming, Collins, Bennett, Heath). We brought in a lot of “name” players, but most of those guys’ prime seasons are behind them or they were solid players who aren’t actually game
changers (Poe, Dix). There are differing opinions about how in-demand our new HC and DC actually were.

I’m glad people are excited. And I don’t want to rain on any parades, but as Cowboy fans, we’re excited every offseason.

I do love the Griffen signing, though. Just like I loved the Robert Quinn signing last season. I liked McCoy, too. Just like I liked him for us last season when we made a play for him and were beaten out by Carolina.

The last time the Cowboys had a top defense it carried Quincy Carter to the playoffs.

Well, we drafted well on offense.

Defense had many bust , risk and question marks which prevented our franchise from more success.
Seems like two guys we drafted on defense signed huge extensions after their rookie deals (Jones/Lawrence).
