NFL writer ranks Dak Prescott just outside Top 5 QBs

As they mentioned, the staffs of the Athletic (considered one the best staffs) had him 12th, which is not terrible at all. And ESPN's staff--not the level of the Athletic, but still ok--had him 10th.
That 10-12 range dounds pretty fair and is generally where he falls. I think he was evn in about tat range in the NFL networks top 100 (though that can silly at times).

I happen to disagree. Most of the rankings I see have him on average ranked around #7-9. Some of them ranks him higher than that, some of them ranks him lower, depends on the metric they use. Some metrics even have him as #1 (Football Insiders), but I definitely think on average he's higher than #10-12.

I can agree Brees, Mahomes, and Wilson are better. Brady, Ben, Ryan, and Rodgers are getting old imo. I don't think Jackson's passing talents are good enough to consistently have the type of season he had last year but I might be wrong. And I see Watson as more or less equal to Dak. Both are 10 win per year QBs on average, and both have a 1-2 Playoff record - but Dak has almost double the sample size. I'd place Dak slightly higher because I think he elevates the team more.

I’m not hating on Brady he’s one of the best to ever play, but I know I’m not the only one who saw that he lacked zip on his passes, especially as the season wore on. Maybe that warmer weather will be a blessing for him. I’m curious to see how he does down there. Maybe he had an undisclosed injury that was bothering him.
He played with an elbow injury much of the season and a toe injury as well later in the year (week 14 and on).
I'm curious too.

Good to have your own opinion.
That was my point, really.

Anyone with half a brain knows Dak is one of the 10 best QBs in football.

That may sound like a low bar, but remember... we live in a country where 40-45% of the population is too stupid to properly assess factual information, and therefore dismiss facts that they don’t like altogether.

This board is no different.
Definitely some nice passes there, I really hope he goes off this year. 40-45%, would love to see where you got those #’s from. Not saying I doubt those #’s because I mostly agree, but would love to see where you got them from.

I’ll be honest. I love Dak as the Cowboys’ QB. That doesn’t mean I think he’s the best. Despite Troy’s SB rings, no one thinks he was the #1 QB of his generation. Despite Romo’s heroics and stats, no one thinks he’s even near the top of his generation.

I would not trade Dak for Lamar Jackson because he’s not a good fit for our established offense. I think Dak might be in the top 10, but that’s debatable. I know, however that there are not 10 QB’s I’d trade him for due to age. If I was selecting my QB from all starters for one year, no way I’d have Dak at #6, but as a franchise QB, I would not trade him for Brady, Rodgers, or Breeze for the long haul.

I don’t really get into all the comparisons and ratings. I watched Meredith, Morton, Staubach, White, Aikman, Romo, and now Dak. I loved all of them when they were Cowboys, but it was rare that I ever thought any of them were the GOAT of the NFL. Nor did I care.

Dak is our QB. Try to enjoy the games! I ever saw this much negativity and fighting when our starting QB was named Pelleur or Carter. They were the best we had at the time, and we supported them. Fans are really finicky.

Not putting Watson above Dak, and after one full season as a starter, not ready to put Jackson above him either.

Brees, I can go with that and of course Mahomes. I can see Wilson too.
And Several others right in that same level as Dak. Kind of goes with the thread on the poll, where does one rank Dak. 6 to 10 range for me, with room to move up.

This is spot on. I don’t understand why Watson is constantly rated above Dak, I must be missing something.

The only reason Dak is not rated higher is the lack of winning drives when the game is on the line.

thats fair. But who was the HC? Was Dak out there alone? Did he play D?
Please don't take this as disrespecting your opinion, but I want to throw something out there:

Since Dak is the leader of this team, as so many like to say, does it stand to reason that when he plays poorly, the rest of the team will follow?

Jackson was awesome in 2019. ONE YEAR. Dak was ROY ..won like 13 games his first year. The guy gets no respect. Only way he will get respect is going to the SB and winning

Dude, Jackson had an insane season and was a unanimous MVP, something only Brady has ever done. That trumps anything Dak has done and maybe even accounts for 2 of Dak's seasons. 36 TDs through the air while also being 6th leading rusher in the league, 2 slots behind Ezekiel Elliott. Even if he only mustered 75% of that production, that's still fantastic for a QB. They're probably ranking him to continue that sort of production whereas Dak's already 4 years removed from that ROY season and has experienced a downswing. Recent MVP > ROY in any year including the previous year let alone 4 years ago. Goes without saying but I said it anyway, lol.

So what? It doesn't mean this writer is right about his assessment.

Did anyone else notice the highlight reel didn't show anything from the Jets, Bills, or 2nd Eagles game?
Weird

It would be interesting to see how Dak would get on at Houston. I'm not completely sold on Watson but then he does carry that franchise. Without him they haven't got a chance and he has made some miraculous plays for them. Could Dak do the same? I don't think he could as he's not that type of QB. But who knows he might in a different set up.

People can quote numbers and stats and whilst they are worth consideration ask yourself this question. Would the Packers have beaten the Seahawks in the play offs last season with Dak? For me it's a flat out no. Just not happening. It took a vintage Aaron Rodgers performance to close out that game with his arm. So for that reason I couldn't even entertain Dak over Rodgers next season.

I do agree with other posters on here in that I see Drew Brees regressing next season.

Since his development was so obviously hindered by a staff that was horrendous at developing players, it's simply hard to judge him at present.
They basically developed everyone else on offense. Or do they not receive credit for them .Perhaps they should receive credit for developing a 4th round pick at QB too. It’s entirely possible they’ve made him as good as he can be up until now.

We’ve already seen what Dak is without a top 5 RB, a WR1 and or key pieces on OL.

Yes, all QB’s need a supporting cast but it’s what they do with it that separates the great ones.

Take any of the top 10 QB’s in the league and put them in this offense . Do they do better?

Dak's play on the field this season will either prove or disprove this ranking. I personally think he's somewhere between 9th to 12th best in the league.

Out of those 10 plays 7 were to Cooper, 1 was a rush by Dak, 1 was a nice throw and catch to Zeke on the sideline and another to Cobb in the endzone.

It goes to show why they made sure Cooper was such a priority to get him his money.
