Those playboy piks would have been all over the place x1000!

I don't get the OP, I've lived in LA for 25 years and I've never heard a single person talk about Jeanie Buss as a sharp sports executive.

Jeannie just became the first female owner in NBA to win a championship.

Does Jeanie have one of these jackets? Asking for a friend.

The Lakers are my NBA team (I'm all Los Angeles teams except for the NFL)

You guys wouldn't like her. She puts winning above everything and she's not afraid to hire and fire people that aren't getting the job done.

She even had her brother ( who had first crack after Dr. Buss passed) removed so she can hire a competent GM.

That's yucky. Here in Dallas we like our nepotistic executives to be arrogant, incompetent, and with zero accountability.

It’s really not hard to be the GM of the Lakers. Every big free agent wants to go there. It’s simple, clear cap space for max free agents and add the rest of the ring chasers. Wash rinse repeat.

If she became the owner than Jimmy Johnson probably doesn’t get hired. I give Jerrah some credit even if it was 31 years ago he at least hired Jimmy and let him do his thing. We know the story how Jerrah wanted attention and decided to ruin the franchise so he could be the man. 26 years later... ya we know the tired story of Jerrah all to well.

Except Buss (the son) and Mitch Kupchek were awful and couldn't talk anyone into joinig the Lakers. They went 10 years without a championship.

Less simple than you think and Jeannie Buss had a lot to do with righting the ship.

What you said was always the case before with Dr. Buss and Jerry West (as GM) in charge. Go out and get the best talent (Kareem, Shaq, Phil Jackson, Pau Gasol, etc).

The Cowboys could easily do the same but are too busy making sure Jerry will get credit for winning. If Jerry truly was all about winning, he'd hire the best people available. Those people are not his kids and especially not himself.

Wow they went a whole 10 years without a championship? That must have been rough. It’s a lot easier being the GM of the Lakers than say Milwaukee hell even a storied franchise like the Celtics. Today’s players care about weather and the glitz of LA. Most NBA teams have to build through the draft and then even if they find a franchise player they have worry about them leaving for an LA.

She very well may in the near future.
The NBA loves them some Lakers.

I remember when then-commissioner Daniel Stern was asked his dream Finals and he said "Lakers vs Lakers".

She gets them just one more title and her wearing a HOF jacket is not far behind.
The Buss family helped shape the entire league and she's the one that got them back from embarrassment to Champions.

For the Lakers, 10 years is a long time.

Let's not act like this is a LA thing only. Boston did it with Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Miami did it with LeBron and Bosh. Golden State did it with Kevin Durant. The NBA is a different animal all together.

The Dodgers can and do spend like crazy. They also have an amazing scouting department (domestic and international), a great pro department (find and sign reclamation projects like Justin Turner and Max Muncy), and aren't terrified of free agency (AJ Pollack) or blockbuster trades (Mookie Betts).

The Cowboys could very much be those teams with the obvious restriction of a hard salary cap. They choose not to.
