was he the one that said he refused to fire Tom Landry? I know that was a condition for the sale-If I remember correctly one potential buyer said he wasnt comfortable with that condition.
Jerry on the other hand said "sure-in fact I'll do it on day 1"

Lebron told Rich Paul he wanted to be an entertainment mogul. Anthony Davis told Rich Paul he wanted to build a brand. Both got steered to to the Lakers. Two of the five best players on the planet on the same team will get you a ring in the NBA. Lakers management had little to do with it as evidenced by Polinka 7th place finish as executive of the year. And everybody knows I have wanted the Jones family gone for decades. So don't even....

For the Lakers, 10 years is a long time.

Let's not act like this is a LA thing only. Boston did it with Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Miami did it with LeBron and Bosh. Golden State did it with Kevin Durant. The NBA is a different animal all together.

The Dodgers can and do spend like crazy. They also have an amazing scouting department (domestic and international), a great pro department (find and sign reclamation projects like Justin Turner and Max Muncy), and aren't terrified of free agency (AJ Pollack) or blockbuster trades (Mookie Betts).

The Cowboys could very much be those teams with the obvious restriction of a hard salary cap. They choose not to.

Boston had to trade for Garnett and Ray Allen at the end of their careers. They had to give up a lottery pick and some young players. It’s not like Garnett and Allen cane over as free agents. Miami is more of what your talking about with LeBron and Bosh. It’s funny again Lebron runs to the Lakers and his agency basically tells people AD doesn’t want to go anywhere but LA so if you trade for him he’s walking. Boston was nothing like LA.

Jeannie buss is a terrible owner.....the lakers are in LA which means they’ll always attract superstars. In the nba superstars equal other star which equal rings.

the lakers got lebron and lebron himself put them back on

Her father , Dr Jerry Buss, was one of the reported higher bids that wasn’t accepted by Bum Bright in 1989.

Jeannie just became the first female owner in NBA to win a championship.

Dr Buss and Mavericks owner Donald Carter were two of the bids rejected for Jerry whose lower offer paying cash was more attractive to Bum who was facing bankruptcy.

Both NBA owners would have needed to sell their majority ownership to qualify and taken additional time for Bum facing financial strains. And the fact Jerry was rumored he’d fire Landry also fueled the decision by Bum who was frustrated with the agreement he made when purchased the team that it was Tex’s decision.

What could have been...

The caveat was that Landry be fired... Jerry was the only one that agreed to do so...

The Lakers are my NBA team (I'm all Los Angeles teams except for the NFL)

You guys wouldn't like her. She puts winning above everything and she's not afraid to hire and fire people that aren't getting the job done.

She even had her brother ( who had first crack after Dr. Buss passed) removed so she can hire a competent GM.

That's yucky. Here in Dallas we like our nepotistic executives to be arrogant, incompetent, and with zero accountability.

lol Rob Pelinka is a bum. That franchise has been a joke under her tenor. It just so happened one of the greatest players of all time wanted to close out his career in Hollywood. That’s not a feather in her cap, it’s a stroke of fortune. And it still damn near backfired horrendously.

Before acquiring the single greatest basketball player to ever live (Lebron), her Lakers were tied with the Knicks for the worst winning percentage in the NBA over the last 6 years. So what could have been? She happens to inherit a historic franchise in one of the best cities on planet earth and got lucky that Lebron chose to play for that team and bring some friends along.

It wasn’t so much that he agreed to do so as it was what he was going to do. He had stated so during the process.

The other prospective buyers hadn’t blurted out what they would do.

Except for the whole winning-the-championship thing.

Pelinka will need to really prove himself this next few years, especially with securing Anthony Davis and then surrounding him with talent as LeBron transitions into retirement.

NO matter what, Buss will hold him accountable, unlike here with the Cowboys.

uhh what? what do you mean "except for the whole winning the championship?" that's the stroke of fortune due to Lebron deciding where and how he wanted to finish his career. Zero to do w/ Jeannie or Rob. That's Bron, and Klutch. Was Dan Gilbert a great owner?

where was this famed accountability w/ magic johnson when he was a laughing stock as gm? how shrewd of an owner was she when they lost out on Ty lue as head coach haggling over length? she's been a trainwreck of an owner, just lucked into lebron as have two other championship teams.

not only that but behind the scenes the buss family dysfunction is ridiculous . Power struggles over roles in the organization and Jeannie has given her friends powerful roles and even worse VOICES inside the organization, one of those people is Kurt rambis’s wife. Whose only basketball knowledge is her affiliation with Jeanie and her husband is a former laker.

The buss’s aren’t like other basketball family’s where basketball is the family business but the real money comes from somewhere else. While dr jerry buss did very well in real estate, Now his childrens money and wealth comes mostly now from running the lakers- which means they aren’t nearly as wealthy or powerful as the other owners.

last year after the magic Johnson fiasco the other owners had a board meeting and basically lambasted Jeannie for making the team look like an embarrassment In the media and for missing the playoffs- w the ultimatum being land a superstar and make the ad trade happen.

the lakers are in bed with klutch sports, lebrons agency. They have a power vacuum over the nba and the only reason they got lebron is because he wanted to move his family to la and have his production company there as well.

for real. If “except for the championship” is a worthy response, well... lol
You are right. I am letting the 3 SB’s of my youth cloud my judgement. There is no excuse for the ost 25 years. As I have said in the first past Jerry Does not care about SB wins like us fans do. He does not have the motivation. He is all about being in the limelight, just keep growing the brand. SB wins is probably 10th on the list of his yearly goals.

Jeanie Buss is IN NO WAY her father. He built that team to what it was before she was handed the keys to it after his demise. Lets not confuse the facts. DO NOT get me started about the NBA. We simply do not know what could have been. Jerrys thing was basketball..and some Hockey. Thats it. I think he was intrigued with the idea of moving the Cowboys to Los Angeles because even back then, there was chatter about the Rams leaving town, and at that time the Raiders were on the cusp of also leaving.. So he was trying to corner the NFL market in L.A. Smart man...Jerry was great in a short time span, but he will never EVER be Jerry Buss.
