Is Anyone Else Apathetic To This Franchise?

I more or less lost interest in the Cowboys starting 2017 or so. In my entire life I have only ever seen Dallas win three playoff games. Never seen them advance beyond the divisional round.

My main sports joy has come from the San Antonio Spurs. They have mentally compensated me, for twenty years, of everything the Cowboys couldn't give me. Consistent excellence. Five championships in fifteen years.

Not jumping ship. Not hating them. Still a fan but just apathetic to their games. You don't get excited for wins and don't sulk over losses. It has been happening for me over the past few years. Once the game is over, I turn off the tv, don't listen to any post game shows. I post on here a little and then they are out of my mind. I move on. Win or lose. There is no hope in sight for this franchise at all.

I don't think I will ever stop watching completely and I definitely won't root for another team.

For eons we were the most exciting team in football; a lot of times we won and we would even lose in the most exciting ways possible. Or we came back and won sometimes. But now there is not even an illusion we could complete for anything even if we do win once in a while. There is no hope while the Joneses run this team. I never root against us but if we end up losing in the worst way possible I actually enjoy the humiliation and embarrassment the Jones get. I think our only hope is that things get so unbelievably disastrous and humiliating it will force the Jones to finally get a football GM and some personnel people in here. I think this is the most hopeless this franchise has ever been and the future is a joke with all the bad players, bad contracts, and bad coaches. With Jerry still running the circus. So I’m going to enjoy watching the Joneses crash and burn. It’s our only hope.

Technically, anything is possible in sports. We stayed on the margins of relevance for the last 15 years because we accidentally stumbled onto franchise QBs in undrafted free agency and in the 4th round. Sometimes lightning strikes and you're gifted a way to get back in the game despite your total and utter incompetence. It's possible lightning strikes and we stumble onto some good pieces that fix the defense and the stars align and we accidentally win something again. It's irrational hope, but I guess it's technically hope.

But realistically? We have not much rational hope.

It's been clear to me since midway into our squandering of the Romo era that we're basically just waiting for Jerry to peace out, and then we cross our fingers and hope the family sells the team or that his kids magically aren't the worst like he is. Of course, rich people's kids almost always are the worst, so I'm not holding my breath.

Honestly, our best statistical chance of turning the franchise around is probably some sort of Donald Sterling incident where the Joneses are forced to sell the team because they do something so horrific from a PR standpoint that the NFL decides it's a deal-breaker being handcuffed to them anymore. Unless Jones is caught with a dead hooker in his trunk or it's found out that he's hunting people for sport or something, we're stuck with them. To be fair, our fanbase is the worst and we absolutely deserve this.

When I listen to the two Jones speaking about their confidence in the team to turn it around and connecting success this year with playing in what may be the worst collective division performance of all time, I step off the merry-go-round.

The team has long been a joke and it stinks from the head.

I’m not gonna lie and say I’m apathetic, but I am utterly un-phased watching this team beat themselves time and time and time again. Over the last 25 years, there’s been probably 3 seasons where it was fun to watch this team for an entire season (2007, 2014, and 2016), and all 3 ended in heartbreaking fashion. Since 2017, there’s been a handful of fun games, but way more often than not, it’s a joyless ritual that I’m incapable of extricating myself from. And nothing will change with this team for the foreseeable future. Alas.

Got there a few years ago. Two things are apparent to me:

1. As long as the Joneses run the team as they've been running it I will never see another Cowboys SB.

2. The Joneses will never change how they run the team. It's fantasy football at the highest level and they're making a fortune, win or lose.

yup, hope is an illusion as long as jones & spawn own the team

I'm not really apathetic, like Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind.."Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn".

This entire franchise is run on some sort of illogical hope, so dont feel bad about it

Stop buying merch and going to the games. Maybe Jerry will listen when you start messing with his Wallet

Growing up in New Orleans, I use to laugh at Saints fans saying "wait until next year". They had an owner that was Owner, General Manager and Defacto Head Coach, John Mecom Jr. Mecom Jr. was Jerry Jones before Jerry Jones. Mecom Jr. father made the money that the son used to buy a football team and use it as his toy.

Just like I knew the Saints would never win with Mecom Jr. as Owner, the same can be said now.

The Dallas Cowboys are the 70's-80's version of the New Orleans Saints. Jerry Jones starring as John Mecom Jr. Until a change in ownership physically or mentally, and in the immortal words of Bill Parcells, "you are what you are".

Seems to me that both Jerry and Stephen are far to egocentric to admit their mistakes. Therein lies a huge part of this franchise's ongoing troubles. Even when things are falling apart before their very eyes, they're prone to denial and are extremely reluctant to act in a timely manner. This makes for an extremely poor foundation for supporting a formerly great franchise. Sadly, the organization, itself, is faulty.

I'm trying desperately to enjoy being entertained, even though the pain of seeing this team lose badly has been an excruciating exercise in suppressing my frustration. I'm quite certain that many of us are experiencing much the same difficulties on game day. It's anyone's guess when relief might be seen. The changes that are yet to come will likely be extensive and time consuming. My patience grows thinner with each passing year.
