Epic drafting. They can't evaluate top safeties worth a squat, so their literal only option is to push corners with safety potential to the position.
Well. They likely see the safety room as

FS - Kazee, Thompson, Mukuamu
SS - Neal, Wilson, Kearse,

Could be ok with what they have for now

I haven’t found how he ran at pro day
Have you seen his times
Side note
He played safety in HS and dome at SC

He didn’t run the 40 at his pro day to the mysterious injury bug that hits a lot of prospects.

You can see on tape though that he’s not the most fleet-of-foot. That could also be a by-product of him being along strider.

I looked and couldn’t find a time either
He looks like a 4.5 type guy but I think that’s fast enough at safety
The real key is quickly reading and reacting
You can make up for some speed with quick decisions

You are gonna see lots of guys get beat by Pitts
Yeah but I remember watching this guys film saying I want nothing to do with a guy that gets beat that bad in a one on one that quickly. Maybe he'll pan out at Safety but 99% of the time these 7th rounders don't become anything.

That’s possible if they really did have Joseph higher on their board then Moehrig. What I’m afraid of is that they were dead set on taking a CB in the 2nd round instead of higher rated player who can start for them in years to come. We had immediate need at CB, S, DT, G/OT.
We’ve seen how this FO operated in the past. They took Hill over higher rated S who are now starting for several teams.
Had they took Moehrig that would’ve been them reaching because of position. Moehrig played safety so yes he was one of the highest rated safeties and worthy of where he got picked but Joseph had a high ceiling....

I will say this...Looking at the Cowboys recent history...they have drafted some guys that either started for them or other teams.....

yeah, some is the key word. Go back to most and I can find a lot that haven't panned out. Dont forget this guy wasn't a guy like Wilson or Woods that we traded up to get so he was drafted where they had him ranked.

Think teams were pretty freaked out about Moehrig back. With the medical report incomplete this year because of COVID and the MRI that supposedly should something concerning, it probably made the decision a little easier. I’m concerned like you about being pigeonholed into drafting a corner. I love Joseph’s talent but it sounds like he is really immature and doesn’t have much of a work ethic.

I’m not saying that. We know that in the 7th round guys usually don’t even make it out of camp. So odds are he won’t.

I’m just saying their success rate isn’t 0%. Terrence Mitchell was found there. Dinucci. Noah Brown.

Quinn said pretty definitely during his press conference that Neal will be a LB.

You’re point is valid but which available safety would you have picked
The only available shot for a safety i liked was at 75 for deablo who went at 80. After that it didnt matter was huge run on safeties late 4th early 5th b4 we picked again. O well we can dream next draft

Ya I think the opportunity was in 2019 when we took hill instead of the safety . I’m not upset though I feel ok about draft
