Its a valid point for sure, all i can say is if it wasn't coaching before 2020 (I mean that is a bunch of injuries) then there is a wierd voodoo with this team that can not be solved....Makes you wonder if Jerry reaaly did go down to the crossroads for those 90's SB's.....

Last year the DC sucked? What about all the other 8&8 seasons?

I have seen a lot of games where it looks like the players have no heart or commitment. However, I'd never say that in front of Bradie James. Thank god for the protection of the bbs. lol

Im betting the defensive scheme will be the same as everyone in the FO including the HC has said they want this hybrid defense.....Mike Nolan had the perfect storm of bad happen to him and with the fact his last couple of stops were not great...well you cant cut all the players....Not canning your HC you just hired...someone has to get the blame. I suspect if Nolan stayed by default the defense would get better, so i see both sides, yes Mike Nolan was the DC so he does get the blame, there was a ton of bad luck (covid, horrible injuries on "the strong side of the ball" and so on) that helped him to that worst defensive season though.
Over 30 other DC’s has the same. His scheme is complex and with the lack of OTA’s, mini-camps, training camp, preseason games he didn’t adjust. Last years defensive failures were all on Nolan IMO.

You could be correct, but as you said they should have seen that comming, some of that goes to the GM and HC in my eyes. Also there were other teams who were in the same situation and they did well....so some of that goes to the players. Not at all saying they should not have let Nolan go just saying I dont think all of the blame is his.

The DC took the fall for defensive problems. Some of that was surely deserved, but players underperformed a lot.

LVE and Jaylon. Ugh.
We planned on a dline with McCoy, Poe, Griffin as key contributors. McCoy out, Poe and Griffin bad, and let go. Oh yeah, how about that veteran FS who didn't even make the roster?

Defensive player evaluation may have been worse than the awful scheme. It's close. The evals were a disaster. Guess we'll blame the DC for that too, but I'm not sure if that's justified.

Mike Nolan deserves a lot of blames but to make him the lone scapegoat is totally wrong and simplistic approach .....too bad we will never hear his side of the story
He IS the only scapegoat - he was in charge of that s**tshow “D” last season. He needed to be taken out to the woodshed for that fiasco. Total IDIOT.

Yeah those other teams that do well didn’t have Nolan as their DC. That’s my whole point.

Glad Marcus Spears ended up here because this been bothering me watching ESPN. Why is it that he played his whole career for the Cowboys he played ONE game as a starter for the Ravens and behind him is LSU (understandably) and a Ravens helmet but no Cowboys helmet? He hate the Cowboys or something?

#1 David Robinson fan?
My bruddah.

Yes sir! My all time favorite person outside my family. Quick story because I don't want to hijack this thread. Because I could! Haha He came into a Subway in downtown when they use to play at the Alamodome, he bought a platter of sandwiches. He stayed and signed every autograph and if there were cell phones back then I'm he would've taken a picture with everyone who asked. Tim Duncan would never do that.

People forget how well David played in the 1999 NBA Playoffs. Without him we don't win our first championship. Garnett outplayed Duncan in the first round. David had a solid series against the Timberwolves averaging about the same as Duncan. Duncan dominated the Lakers and David with the acception of game-4, he held a prime Shaq to below his average. In the 3rd round against the Blazers, Rashed Wallace outplayed Duncan and once again it was David to the rescue by leading them in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. In the Finals against the Knicks Duncan was the man but David still had averaged about 17-12. People say around here that David was a failure because he couldn't win the big one his own but who can? Like Shaq said "Every Batman needs a Robin."

I love love love DRob and watched every game of his career, but those 90's teams...
You know the one team that really showed how much the team needed Duncan?
The Jazz. The one guy that could truly get into DRob's head was Karl Malone and his downward hacking.
Knocked old boy unconscious one game with a dirty elbow.

Knocked the Spurs out of the playoffs like Run TMC and were the Boogie Man of DRob's career and then came Duncan and all of a sudden, Karl Malone couldn't guard DRob, he had to guard this other guy that straight was a different beast and unguardable.
And that's when I knew that the Admiral finally got his partner in crime to go to the Promised Land.

It was wonderful.

I was so happy when 50 got his title and then got another.

umm no nolan is 33% , 33% goes to player, some of which were on the team during that meltdown in 2018 playoffs against the rams where Nolan's team did not give up what felt like 400yards to the rams two RBs..so same players different coach same result....

so had a lot to do with Players, 33% goes to injurys and well the failed FAs. Putting it on nolan only is insane..a lot of blame goes around

So who exactly do you blame for the worst defense in Cowboys history last year?
The players, the management... and the coaches.......my point is to corner him as the only one to be blamed is a very basic simple approach

I love Marcus… He keeps it real good or bad. On a side note ain’t it amazing how being a ex Cowboy leads to getting your foot in the broadcasting door… you could either suck Witten or be the next Madden Romo.
Yep!
Jimmy Johnson
Dave Wannstedt
Gil Brandt
Troy Aikman
Tony Romo
Don Meredith
Daryl Johnston
Jason Witten
Deion Sanders
Darren Woodson
Emmitt Smith
Michael Irvin
Nate Newton
Jesse Holley
Babe Laufenberg
Brian Baldinger
Todd Christensen

In fact, if you're a Dallas Cowboys quarterback and reach even the most modicum of fame, you'll end up in somebody's both. Look at Babe Laufenberg, for crying out loud.
Dak Prescott has a seat waiting for him when he retires.

I remember all that. Ugh!! Until Duncan came Spurs was the last team to charter because Red McCombs was so cheap. Can you imagine a 7 footer setting in a regular air plane seat for hours? David's second season against the Warriors with Run TMC, the second game Rod Strickland had to wear shoes that were 3 sizes too big because he forgot his. The game 3 he ate 2 chili-dogs before the game and wasn't feeling good. I think that's why he was gone the next year. Terry Cummings tore he knee up and Willie Anderson was never the same because of his shin splints. Their best chance was David's rookie year. If it wasn't for the Strickland's no-look pass to Elliott in the last seconds of OT in game-7 in Portland, that resulted in a turnover and a break away foul against Strickland, we win that series. Go to the 26:52 mark if you want to be sick again. Tied 103-103 with 30 seconds left. 3 made free throws by Drexler and the ball back because of the break away foul rule. Terrible decisions by Strickland.

Portland went on to lose against the Bulls be we swept the Bulls that year. David had to play with people like Vinny Del Negro, A street baller Lloyd Daniels, Dwayne Schintzius, a 50 year old Caldwell Pope and another past him prime player, Moses Malone, and many other scrubs. Those teams back then wasn't pretty. Dale Ellis and Chuck Persons did very well in the regular season but would disappear in the playoffs. Many painful memories back then.

Confusing title

I honestly thought this was going to be something about a health crisis for Spears
Unfortunately misleading titles to suck in viewers is common these days. Expected really.

I disagree but only slightly. You say 33% on the players and I say 20%. So we’re close.
