Yes sir! My all time favorite person outside my family. Quick story because I don't want to hijack this thread. Because I could! Haha He came into a Subway in downtown when they use to play at the Alamodome, he bought a platter of sandwiches. He stayed and signed every autograph and if there were cell phones back then I'm he would've taken a picture with everyone who asked. Tim Duncan would never do that.
People forget how well David played in the 1999 NBA Playoffs. Without him we don't win our first championship. Garnett outplayed Duncan in the first round. David had a solid series against the Timberwolves averaging about the same as Duncan. Duncan dominated the Lakers and David with the acception of game-4, he held a prime Shaq to below his average. In the 3rd round against the Blazers, Rashed Wallace outplayed Duncan and once again it was David to the rescue by leading them in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. In the Finals against the Knicks Duncan was the man but David still had averaged about 17-12. People say around here that David was a failure because he couldn't win the big one his own but who can? Like Shaq said "Every Batman needs a Robin."
I love love love DRob and watched every game of his career, but those 90's teams...
You know the one team that really showed how much the team needed Duncan?
The Jazz. The one guy that could truly get into DRob's head was Karl Malone and his downward hacking.
Knocked old boy unconscious one game with a dirty elbow.
Knocked the Spurs out of the playoffs like Run TMC and were the Boogie Man of DRob's career and then came Duncan and all of a sudden, Karl Malone couldn't guard DRob, he had to guard this other guy that straight was a different beast and unguardable.
And that's when I knew that the Admiral finally got his partner in crime to go to the Promised Land.
It was wonderful.
I was so happy when 50 got his title and then got another.
