Yeah and I'm pretty sure that will be the case. Why can my special teams coach coach my guys up to play that role? I understand special teams is a facet of the game that is important but my goodness....its always these Jeff Heath and Keith Davis types......probably more so the Keith Davis but a guy who's strictly on this team to play special teams. Unless they are a special team ace I Don't get why Reggie Robinson can't do what Goodwin can.
Good teams have players that eat and sleep special teams. Kenny Gant, Matt Vanderbeek, Joe Fishback and Toast Patterson ring a bell? I probably left out a couple others from that era.

It all comes down to the player wanting that specific job first. Get on the roster. Where I have an issue is where that player is not really able to elevate their craft beyond that and stick around too long unchallenged.

Its 2021 not the 70's or 80's though and in 2021 I don't see the point in having guys who only offer special teams....not only that but I want to see what my actual guys can do who we have under contract and that are young. We don't know what a guy like Reggie Robinson can do or if he can play the CJ Goodwin role.....

I really like both. I REALLY REALLY like Hooker if...and that's a big if....he can stay healthy with no ill affects from his injury

I'm confident in the safety competition and fact when Kazee and Hooker are healthy they're pretty good contributors.

The vast majority voted the way I did. I really think our pass rush will make up for any shortcomings at safety. I feel that Micah, DLaw and Randy are going to wreck havoc on opposing QBs, forcing teams to dink and dunk most of the time. I think with Cox being a solid cover LBer that he is, and Quinn/Edwards resurrecting (hopefully) Jaylon's and LVE careers, I think our LBing corps will be much improved too. I truly believe our defense will be much improved and will rank somewhere between 7th and 12th this year. Which is way I have them going 13-4 and beating the Chiefs in the SB. :flagwave:

That is what preseason games are for.

And that is okay too.

At least there are some options with it. Think about previous years around this time.

Does anyone want Kavon Frazier, George Iloka or Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, instead? I mean, one year our backup safety behind Heath entering camp was Jameill Showers.

Yes, we've had amazing depth for quite some time. What's your point?

As long as they stay healthy, obviously, I am very confident as this would be the best combination for well over a decade. Maybe going back to the 90's SB days.

Hooker can play either SS or FS, as Wilson would be in the mix also. They could actually have 4 deep at Safety depending how Kearse does.

Hooker, Kazee, Wilson, Kearse, then you have Neal that can play there also, if / when needed.

Keep one of the rookies, possibly, but more would be they go to the PS. And no, I do not fear them getting plucked from the PS.
4 S's, 6 CB's, then the plus upside of Neal.

All off the edge. One of the interior DL has to emerge to protect the safeties.

No doubt. I don't see us having any all-pros in the interior but I think we get enough production from Bohanna , Hill, Gallimore and the other we drafted or signed as FAs, to make a big difference there. Bohanna looks to be motivated losing weight and saying the right things, so I think he's going to surprise everyone.

I am fine with both players being on this roster. Signing two recovering players increases your odds that one of them will contribute in a meaningful way.

That said— we just don’t know what they will bring to the table. Here’s to hoping we get some production on the cheap

Slightly confident.

I am confident in Kazee’s health, but not confident in his play.

I am confident in Hooker’s play, but not his health.
What has Kazee done to make you not confident? He’s young and has more career interceptions than our whole secondary combined. Grades well in coverage too.

It’s solely a matter of him being himself post Achilles. He’s playing in the same defense under the same coordinator. I don’t expect his play to randomly be off what it’s always been.
