Video: Chris Simms: The offense is too simple

Something is definitely up because this is how our offense used to be earlier in the season. Notice the different route combos we used run more often.
You can see us beating cover 4 and cover 2 defenses in the video. I don't know what happened and why we aren't running the same route concepts anymore but Amari's rescent complains tells me something must be going on at the Star.

And this is Baldinger break down of Moore's offense from 2019. Look at all the pre snap motions and RPO concepts we used in the video. Something we did more often earlier in the season.

And this is Voch's break down of presnap motions we used in 2019.

Damn what happened to our offense play calling? Moore seems to have dummied down the play calling.

How does our offense compare to the Titans’ and Packers’ offenses in complexity?

I'm sure the lessening ability of our pass protection within the OL is limiting the number of times for Dak to go deep downfield. Get used to it, until such time as younger talent is likely to take over. o_O

Seven game winning streak and KM is a genius.

Loses a game after a different 4 game winning streak and now he's simple.

The first three non productive drives ended on an offensive line penalty. It's that simple.

You can pick apart any NFL coach after he loses.
Funny how people lose sight of the fact that the drives were stalled because of a penalty on the OL. But when you are making Daks paycheck...you better be able to block, throw AND catch. /sarcasm off

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about!

They used to do a much better job of attacking vertically, but lately it seems like they have reverted to overly using comeback routes.
Why show everything when you are playing inferior opponents and have a playoff seed wrapped up. Cut down on the holding penalties and make your FG and we are talking about a different outcome, in spite of how poorly we played. We could very well see the Cards again. I can promise you the gameplan will not be the same.

If Dallas has mastered how we played earlier in the season. In addition to mastering the plays we are now calling. We can incorporate both approaches during a playoff game. Thus forcing the defense to prepare for both approaches and keeping the defense off balance because they do not know what is coming.

As much as I hated Garrett.....even he did this. He tucked away things that worked earlier with the plan to bring it back later in the season/playoffs. I suspect this is common around the NFL.

The first 7 games Moore is genius and Dak is MVP. Now this.

It’s playcalling and execution..

Bryan B was saying the complete opposite that Moore relies to much on Dak to bail him out when things are not going well instead of making play adjustments.

I sometimes wonder if Garret is secretly coaching by proxy and KM is that proxy. They could be having weekly Skype meetings for all we know.
Well. Our offense went to crap after he was released in NY. So he has the time. You could be on to something here

Rips Kellen Moore and rips Dak for 15 minutes.

Great post! I can tell you that one reason the offense is so dam simple is because Dak struggles to hit moving targets. Heck he can even hit those basic curl routes accurately. Dak also has the option to change the play but this is about as simple as it gets and what you would do for a rookie QB.

Sims is pretty much spot on. What's weird is that KM's offense was so different once the stench of JG cleared out. Its like they had to dumb down the offense for some reason this year? Dak's leg isn't a 100% and he is struggling with accuracy & deeper throws. It has to be the case, its not like KM dusted off the 5 curl route play.

Goff was having his coach tell him where to go with the ball each play in his mike lol
Exactly
....there are diff ways and levels to helping a qb .....Denver found the way, those that can are copying it
there is a reason K.Moore has to keep it simple....
Now teams are complicating it via scheme......Belechek did the same at last seconds of play clock

This was my biggest complaint against Garrett's offense .. the comeback routes.

I can never understand why you would make it easy on the defender to defend or intercept the ball by letting them face forward.

The offensive player knows where he is going, there is no reason to show the defensive back that as well before the throw.

The Cowboys need to start running vertical plays instead of curls and comebacks all the time. Vertical does not mean it has to be 30 yards down the field either.

You can play vertical with 5 and 10 yard throws with slants or even just straight routes.

We have the horses to kill em with slants and rub routes. Lots of YAC on this team.

I watched the whole video and he made some comments on Dak being off and noticed a mechanics issue but in no way was he ripping Dak for 15 minutes. The vast majority of the video was devoted to the simplicity of our offense and how easy it was for Arizona to defend.

Bad look for this offense, the play calling, the blocking and Dak.

I'm still hoping this is all part of some sort of master plan to not show anything creative pre-playoffs so defenses won't stand a chance when it counts. Yeah I know, but I can dream can't I?

KMoore isn’t the HC and big Mike wants Philbin to be the OC.

KMoore gotta go.

I am talking about the offensive plays, not the quarterback. It would not matter who the quarterback is if the defense constantly knows as soon as the receiver stops, it's a comeback so they can close the gap.

Even if the throws are perfect and the receiver catches it, the receiver is still pointed and moving in the wrong direction (toward the wrong end zone) and the cornerback is right there to make a tackle or even knock the ball out.

Just because I do not like the plays he is calling does not mean I am bashing Moore so you can take off your Moore fan jacket and focus more on what I am saying instead.

I know Moore can design better game plans and call better plays because he has done it in the past with Dak, but lately he seems to be pulling more from Garrett's playbook than his own.
Then I would start pointing fingers at McCarthy and Jerry...too many chefs in the kitchen. The problem could be that every one contributes to the game plan....and it's been the same philosophy as the past....don't lose the ball game
instead of winning it.

I honestly think a lot of problem would be solved if the offense would put more responsibility on Tony Pollards shoulders.

I think he’s the guy to save the season of the Cowboys would just let him instead of playing a unproductive Zeke.
