I wonder how strong the apathy among Cowboys fans will be present next season.
There just seems to be a malaise among Cowboys fans after another failed season.
I think being burned year after year, for 26 years, by this team of teasing fans and flaming out when it counts the most is at it's peak.
The team could start 10-0 and I think fans will be like, meh, we've seen this movie before. Only until they make it past the Wild Card or win a Divisional Playoff game will fans start to believe in this team.
Depends on what fans you are talking about.
The casual fans only care when things are going great.
The optimist fans think we've got a real shot every year.
The pessimist fans think we will never compete for a title as long as [insert reason].
The realistic fans understand that it's hard to win a Super Bowl and regular-season success for this team doesn't even mean we're going to win a Super Bowl. That doesn't mean we don't hope for it, but we also don't expect it. There's no reason to believe what we haven't seen for a long time, but without any hope, it isn't any fun being a fan. So we hope that Dallas can somehow overcome the obstacles that we see, but again, we're not anticipating that happening.
I think only the pessimistic fans and the casual fans feel apathy toward the team because one just jumps on the bandwagon and the other can only see the negatives. Both the optimistic and realistic fans root them on no matter what. There's just a difference in their expectations. (Note: You can be realistically negative about some aspects of the team without being a pessimist fan. Being realistic doesn't equate to being rah-rah. That's the optimist fan.)
