This seems to be the main thing that our team doesn't get. When you were already not as good as most of the playoff teams, you can't tread water while they use free agency to get better. It's hard to catch teams while running in place.
I am glad this FO is not top tier FA fanatics but some players on the next tier down would be nice.

I'm not with you on that. I prefer that they shop selectively, looking for one or two top/elite players each year rather than pick up players on the "next tier down." When the Joneses developed this free-agent philosophy it was because they paid top money for Brandon Carr and he didn't turn into what they were hoping. The problem was that even though Carr was the best corner available, it wasn't a real strong corner market, so they actually got what he was, they just paid for what he wasn't.

There are players most years who can really help a team improve its talent base, but you have to be choosy about it and not just address a position with an expensive one because you have a need. That's where I don't mind the cheap philosophy. If the players aren't there that you need, get a fill-in and try to address it in the draft. But if you have a chance to add a top-notch FA talent, then do it.

Essentially, if you need a corner and Deion Sanders is the best available, then it's probably a good idea to pay top money to get Deion Sanders. But if you need a corner and Brandon Carr is the best available, then it's not a good idea to pay top money to get Brandon Carr. One helps you win your third Super Bowl. The other just hurts your cap.

The issue is most FA are not elite talents any more. Most are average to good with some above average. I would rather pay the money to a FA that is either ascending are at least at their plateau. than spend top dollar on a guy that has career highlights but is in the backend of his career.

You did Dak in the 2nd half of the year. You played scared.

Dak just needs to look in the mirror and see the truth of the matter. He himself seems to have digressed ....fails to read defenses any better, sees ghosts out on the field, less pocket awareness and loss of mobility along with hesitation on running out of the pocket. Depends too much on his safety valves due to defenses confusing him with their coverages. Dak needs to show us he is any better instead of just flapping his lips. Other than that, he looks great. :muttley:

of course he has to say that...what did you expect? "....oh, no we are worse than last year, cooper was so great and I have no faith in the WRs that are here..."

but it does sound he has been taking lessons from jerry on marketing.

It definitely takes work to identify who to sign. My problem is that the Joneses have just decided not to do the work, not to make the effort. Look at the 2021 FAs and imagine if we had signed Trey Hendrickson and Joe Thuney. Would have added some pop to both lines, fixing our weakness at left guard that hurt us the most offensively last year. Henderickson was more of a projection, but if the team had been looking beyond the bargain bin, maybe they would have found him instead of Cincy.

We don't make use of FA to upgrade our talent, so that puts us behind the eight-ball compared to teams that do.

Swearing we haven't regressed is one thing . . .

Stepping it up on the field is what every fan longs for!

I wish the entire Cowboys' team could willingly accept that.

Having good intentions is a noble mindset but finding a solution is better.

The second year improvement of last year's rookies is enough to compensate for any perceived loss in talent.

There are at least four defensive players drafted in 2021 that should show some marked improvement, players like Osa, Golston, Kelvin, Cox, Wright, and Bohanna as well as Parsons.

The most improved area will be the one that needed the most improvement, defensive tackle. I am hearing good things about Gallimore, Osa, and even Trystan Hill.

Even a couple of last season's offensive rookies seem to be impressing the coaches, guys like Fehoko and Vasher..
Thats the camp blend right there, have some good rooks entering camp and meeting up with some young comp right in front of them at most positions, we can break it down.
So this is going to be one really good TC and PS, this team got really fast in some good areas quickly.
2021 rooks waiting to quickly introduce themselves to the new 2022 class.

Just like all winning QBs but some get a little more luckier and the teams helps them to win.
Some QBs are able to elevate the play of the teammates around them. It is not luck when QBs wins over and over again. It is not luck when teammates raise their level of play because of their belief in their QB.

Would have been the perfect time for Dak to guarantee a Super Bowl.

I suspect he's aware that if he were to do that, he'd be setting himself up for ridicule -- at least, here at CZ . . . :omg:

Dak is a Who?

Some say that his helmet fits him too tight
Others say that his head isn’t screwed on quite right
But I think that the most likely reason of all
Could be that his heart is two sizes too small…

Upper tier of FA is mixed bag. If anything it should be looked at with 2-3 years max for a FA to use as a bridge for either another FA or draft picks. Ideally you use a FA that still can play at high level and backfill with a draft pick.

The way the Joneses do it, it's either a player who hasn't succeeded on this level and may never or a player whose best days or behind him. Our candidates for that this year are Fowler (best days) and Washington (never succeeded). Occasionally, we hit on one of those, like we did with Kearse, but it's mostly been you get what you pay for.

So says the Dak hater and the fake fan that gave you a like.
