I'm not exactly sure you can trade a player while on the Tag.
I may be wrong.
The second the player signed his tender, the team and the player are stuck together for the duration of that season. Schultz signed his tender pretty quick after the franchise tag was offered.

Why would the Cowboys pay a 4th option 11 million a year? Who else does that? Out of the top 10 paid tight ends name one that's the 4th option? Or 3rd even?
I didn't say they should or shouldn't. What I said was you are ridiculously understating his market value.

Read my post you responded to. I specifically said if they feel they have other priorities that won't allow them to pay Schultz, then that's just the kind of tough decisions teams have to make sometimes.

But if you need some reasons why he is valuable to the Cowboys, and letting him go would be a tough decision ...

* They have no other proven, viable option as a true receiving threat at TE
* Cooper is gone, so he very well may continue on a similar path as last year when Gallup was out and Cooper had nagging injuries. In short he may be more a 3 option now.
* Something I think you misunderstand is he doesn't just fall in the pecking order the same as one of the WR's anyway. He is not a WR. He plays more of a hybrid position. He may line up on the end of the O-line, or split out wide, or even line up as a FB. In short, it's an oversimplification to simply view him as you would any other receiver.

Reality very rarely meets with fan expectations.
C'est la vie.

Not sure what this means but the "reality" is that Schultz is a nice TE. He's not an elite TE. When a team starts handing out elite contracts to nice players, it can screw up your cap down the road.

Jerry and Stephen should resist the urge to hand over a massive contract to Schultz.

Is that true? I think if they sign the tender, that's essentially a contract and they can make a trade. In 2019, the Seahawks placed the tag on Frank Clark, who then said he wouldn't play under the tag. They worked a trade with the Chiefs where, I believe, they negotiated a new contract for him. But essentially he signed his tender with the Seahawks to facilitate a trade and then quickly signed a new contract with the Chiefs.

Now maybe the exclusive versus non-exclusive tags work differently?

I dont see why the player couldn't be traded.

What happens once the tag is signed is the team can't pull it, the full salary becomes guaranteed, and the sides have until July 15 to work out a different deal, or they cannot until the end of the season.

I don't see where the player can't be traded by rule.

Wow...you really hate zeke THAT much?

What has shultz EVER done?

Zeke was rushing champ and made Dak an NFL starting QB. Maybe that is what you hate deep down inside?

Shultz has been the beneficiary of our QB having zero confidence going down field and utilizing his WR's. He cant block worth a lick and I highly doubt he would as productive on another team. The guy is lucky he's getting 10mill this year.

So then tell us what did Zeke winning a rushing title and all that money tied up in him win us?

Not much. Paying a TB that amount of money is idiotic. It just is. The Rams learned that lesson. The Cardinals learned that lesson. The Panthers are chocking on McCaffery's big deal. For some odd reason, I guess we thought it would be different. Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

Elliotts agent knew what he was doing.

He got language where the during the season salary was guaranteed 18 months in advance, unless they cut him then and there, all while the upcoming season was already guaranteed....for THREE straight years.

Worst structured contract I've ever seen from a teams point of view.

Then we have to hear how we are "lucky to have him" from the same guy who is going to ax him the minute he can.

Any player in the league in the same situation would do this. The Njoku deal reset the market. Schultz's last two seasons have surpassed Njoku's best. His agent would not be doing his job if any other actions were taken
A TE that can't block as well as many WRs is not a TE.

Schultz is here for a year. It's time to pick up a veteran #2 te in fa. Go get Cook, Ebron, Gronk, Rudolph, Jimmy Graham or someone not named McKeon.

We need depth at te. One good te, a rookie, and some warm bodies won't work.

People ask where the big time signings are.

They're in our multitude of overpriced contracts. Good players paid like great ones.

At least zeke was at the op of his position...and still really is. You guys think he sucks....but if you did down deep....he still has good numbers.

"Oh but he's declined since 2016". Oh really? You mean he has actually declined from the 50 best years of any rb EVER and probably one of the best rookie RB seasons EVER?
"He's just an overpaid fullback!" Oh really? You mean he's doing what the team asks him to do? Protecting the star QB? Throwing his body at defensive lineman and big linebackers? Ya don;t think he'd rather be carrying the ball?

Stupid.

I pulled up Emmitt's numbers along side Zeke's and they are remarkably similar. Including getting BIG yards on MORE carries. People don't like it when I say that....."But emmitt is more "likable". Whatever snowflakes!

I understand his frustrations from his viewpoint. He has a valid case.

We should not pay him top dollar from our perspective though!!

?? Shultz is Dak's security blanket - Zeke hasnt done anything in years. Zeke actually hurts the team cause he takes away carries from the better running back. Go watch last years playoff game of Pollard standing on the sidelines while Zeke does nothing. Zeke is the highest paid running back and isnt even a top 10 RB anymore

I say all this but I actually like Zeke. It was just a stupid contract - guy had 2 years left on his rookie deal and could have tagged him another 2 years. There was zero reason to pay him that kind of money.
