Golston is just starting his second season.

Hill is starting his 4th.

Golston should be playing outside though.

This DL doesn’t need another tweener who hasn’t produced anything at DT or DE to deserve a roster spot over Hill.

I'd argue a lot of it's what he hasn't done. He hasn't wasted three years of development but also, he produced more on the field in his rookie season than Hill has in his three IMO.

If he is available and can’t to do the job at all it’s even more worthless. Hill is the better player and produces, if they let broke back Tyron play part-time then they can let Hill!
At present, Hill may not be better than Golsty. It's a matter of development. Hill is far more talented, so are the coaches seeing enough in practice to continue keep him? That we do not know.

It appears Gholston is much more available on Sunday's
Coaches seem to like that attribute in a player
Absolutely.

However, Hill is much more disruptive. Coaches love that attribute in a player!!!!

I blame Marinelli for putting Hill in the doghouse right off the bat and not letting him earn his way out. Hill basically lost his first year of development because Rob was unreasonable. The acl tear also was a bad break. It'd be nice to see him live up to his potential before moving on and doing it for someone else.

Hill hasn't showed any signs that he is better in twice the time.

Comparing a HOF player like Smith to a practice squad player like Hill is arguably the silliest thing I've read in this thread. I know, it's early.

Golston does have more tackles, sacks and close to the same QB hits in a rookie season as hill has had in 3 yards
There is that

Care to post some actual facts he produces
Golston eclipsed his 3 year totals in most every catagory as a rookie

Hill has more raw talent for sure
Golston was more productive last year than hill has been in 3 years though
I think the light may have came on with hill and he may be healthy and I expect a good season out of him
It’s a contract year so that’s really good motivation
I expect Golston to be here next year too
I don’t expect hill to be here next year
But hopefully both have a great season

Hill has actually produced in regular season unlike Golston and doesn’t get abused in run defense.
Golston has 32 tackles in games, Hill has 27 tackles in 18 games. Not really a notable difference in production. The thing that works against Hill is it took him 3 years to accumulate those 27 tackles and 18 games.

No he hasn't

On Golston: he isn't a DT, at least on early downs so playing him there would be a huge mistake IMO. He'll get blown off the line against the run. But let's look at the stats and do so knowing he was a rookie and should improve:

Golston
Seasons: 1
Sacks: 1
QB hits: 4
tackles: 32

Hill and to be clear, this is 3 years combined
Seasons: 3
Sacks: 0.5
QB hits: 8
tackles: 27

I'm not saying those are stats you'd pump your chest about for Golston, but your comment that about Hill at least produced in the regular season doesn't even make sense.

The way it should be looked at is games played. Golston 15 games, Hill 18 games.

When Hill started(5 games) in 2020 his second year he actually flashed what most were waiting to see his rookie year. Unfortunately he had the knee injury and lost that year. He was still recovering the next year(last season) and too boot there was a change in the defensive system. Another lost year.

This year is really Hill's best chance since the start of 2020. I am rooting for Hill to make the team and overcome the adversity that he has had in his career so far. If he doesn't, I wish him well.

Golston has not really shown very much. We'll see if he takes the next step his sophomore season.

But whose fault is that? And Hill has played more than 100 more defensive snaps, so the point is still valid.

Plus, you can't give those excuses for Hill not producing and then say Golston didn't produce when he has done more in a shorter time period and was only in his first season. But, I'll state it again, my point isn't Golston was great or even good, it was that the idea the OP put forth that "Hill produced in the regular season" and Golston did not is simply not true.

you hit on the Alarcon thread, Have a beer, sit back puff on a Cuban...let that win marinate for a sec before starting the thread machine again.
Did he?

Because Big Mex did ok vs defenders that won't make a practice squad?
