Will Romo's injury spare Garrett's job?

If we fail to make the playoffs after starting 6-1, I do not see any way Garrett survives, nor should he.

so nothing?

backup takes reps every week yet looks like that? i don't blame you for trying to distance garrett from that performance. facts are though garrett is a guy who deals exclusively with the offense and his offense let us down 2 weeks in a row.

Garrett doesn't deal exclusively with the offense, so that's wrong.

Facts are we've lost two in a row. Facts are also that we won six in a row just before that. i don't need to distance Jason Garrett from his record if you're willing to be open minded about the job he's actually doing. Nor do I need to look any farther than the performance of Brandon Weeden today to know that the issue with this game was not the Head Coach, for crying out loud.

Who pushed for that backup QB to get signed with the Cowboys? The HC.

Ok. If that's true. I'd have gone with the proscouting department, since that's their primary job, but it's no secret that the head coach is ultimately responsible for the performance of the entire team. It's still a stupid criticism of today's game, though. If you think Jason Garrett getting in there and 'coachin' 'em up!' was going to be the difference between winning and losing, well, I'd say there's no hope for your ability to evaluate what it is that cause a team to win or lose an NFL game at any point.

What's the difference between finishing the season 6-1 and ending up with the same record? The season should be judged as a whole, and none of this changes the fact that most of the media predictions for this team in the preseason was around 6 wins.

ARI pretty much lined up the same way all game and dared Weeden to beat them.

I find it funny that some people think that we would have beat the Cards with a healthy Romo, because he's only beat them once in 3 meetings.

Overrated? Ya the Cowboys surely are because the defense isn't good, and the backups across the board aren't good enough.

Meanwhile Arizona has a ton of injuries on defense, and they dominated the Cows.

I don't agree with most of this post, but am only going to bother replying that the team is the 'Cowboys' and not the 'Cows.' 'The Cows' is a derogatory term.

And I think this is a game we win fairly easily with a passing offense. There's no way of knowing, now, though. We're 6-3 and on to the next game. The good part of the season is still in front of us.

Because it would mean another late season swoon. How many before you pay the piper?

There really isn't any difference between a late season swoon and an early season swoon. If we had started out with 5 of our first 7 games on the road, we probably wouldn't even be 6-3. The good news for us is that it seems we are more effective on the road.

What does one have to do with the other?

Alot of people think we could have easily won this game with a healthy Romo. I'm not so sure because Romo is 1-2 against them throughout his career.

The running game kept this offense in longer down in distances on the early downs, last time I checked that has nothing to do with the QB.

See above.

How is it derogatory?

Opinions, everyone has them...

Because cows are big and slow and stupid and...not bulls. And because people who make fun of the Cowboys use the term as a derogation.

My opinion is based on how the offense has performed this season when we are able to threaten defenses with the run and protect well enough agains the pass. With the protection that Weeden got today, we'd have had a field day on that secondary with Tony throwing the ball. How we've performed in previous seasons or in different locations with different players and using different systems isn't really all that relevant to what we would have done today.

It doesn't matter, though. All teams have injuries, and ours to Romo is not an excuse. I mention it as a factor in evaluating the ability of our team to win big games down the road and not as a mitigating factor in today's loss.

Before the last scoring drive Weedens QB rating was 24.4, Romo doesn't do that and the threat of his play action actually would freeze a D. Brandon might not deserve a job in the NFL saying healthy Tony doesn't make a difference is insane, based on games played over 3 years ago even more so.

The running game is what troubled me the most. The early downs running was bad, very bad. It played a part in Weeden's performance by keeping the offense behind the chains the entire game. Weeden was just horrible, but how much of that is attributed to the offense being predictable and behind the chains is something to ponder.

And even though Romo would be far more accurate than Weeden was today, it's still a toss up as to who would win this game with the running game being very ineffective today.

It doesn't matter, though. All teams have injuries, and ours to Romo is not an excuse. I mention it as a factor in evaluating the ability of our team to win big games down the road and not as a mitigating factor in today's loss.

The way this team has started out has surprised everyone. There is no doubt about that, but in the last two weeks the Cowboys have played some dumb football. Bad penalties, costly turnovers, and then the one thing that we couldn't afford to happen - Tony got hurt.

It almost seems like everytime I start to believe they are turning the corner, BAM! They revert to their 8-8 ways of playing football.

IMO, Garrett has done nothing this year to lose his job, just the opposite...but, if Tony is out, then you get to see if this coaching staff is any good or not...I support Garrett at this point

There is not a coaching staff in the universe that can make Brandon Weeden into an NFL quarterback.

I wonder if that was the lowest QB rating for a Cowboys quarterback since like Drew Henson.

Romo finished with 19.9 QBR vs SF - week 1.

He had a 16.1 QBR vs WAS.
