1. First and poppermost of the toppermost is the fact that they is the jags.
They is not high-tier.
2. If the braintrust and fans be so concerned about Romo fully recovering, Romo need this week of recovery -- without playing in a game -- and next week into the bye.
3. It's just one game. Yes, ever game is important. But still, it is one game and Romo's health is paramount.
If we start Weeden we will know if last game was a anamoly or if he is really that bad. My guestimation is that Weeden is, in fact, a competent backup who just had a string of bad thows and it got worse and he lost all confidence and it all went to pieces for a classic meltdown.
I say gift him a chance. Peace need a chance, so give Weeden a one more chance.
4. Even if Romo starts and escape injury or further harm to his lombardis backictus disk, the pounding, the thowing and the 15-hour ride back to the United Stakes of America will take a toll. yes, romo is tough but he half a body of a 34-year-old, soon to be . . . um, 35 years old if mein math is correct.
5. Yes, Romo would love to play. In the words of that great coach, Jason Garrett, Garrett is a competitor. He love to play and then go home and count is money and grin. And even though Romo could extend his popularity in Britain and maybe get endorsements deals there for warm beer and from PotRoast Express in England, he only need a fan base here in the good old USA.
6. Weeden need this game. OK, there is not WE in Team, but once it would be good to save a player's career. We should do this for Weeden. Who know, he could flourish. He could play like he did against the ***skins. And if he get his confidence back, he could help in the playoff push.
7. Also, we should be bold enough to gamble on this game.
I half sent Jerra and Jason a game plan that I just know half impressed them. Without gifting too much away it involves Murray carrying the ball for 50 time and LOTS of confidence building passes to Witten and Beasley. Why? Beause Dez well be doubled and Williams will attract lot of attention. Also, exhort the special teams to step up big time and a few trick plays I learned in my youth including the Statue of Liberty, the Darrell Royal option and the Huddle to Receive the Kickoff and then Who Got the Ball? play.
8. I dont half an eighth reason but I do want to encourage you to get behind my plan for world domin . . . I mean my plan to get us a win in London, save Romo lots of hurt in the turf and to gift Weeden much needed confidence. If you agree, please send me money and fruit baskets and bowling shirts. If you disagree just send me hateful personal messages and skip the public venom.

Give Romo the next two weeks off and lets get serious about a playoff run.

Yours in fellowships,
Gimme (I ain't scared and I don't run but I do hide sometime)

The case I would need before I did that, would be a cace of Crown Royal.

What you said was, " I do think having starters playing gives you the best shot of winning." To a point. This is one game and not a very important one, in terms of what we have in front of us. On the surface, it sounds reasonable but in the context of the entire season, I don't agree. We need Tony for the last 6 games. We don't need him for Jax. IMO.

The more football Tony plays, the more toll it's going to take. What we are really talking about here is not 7 games. What we are hopefully talking about here is another 10 games. I'd rather rest him.

I think the Cowboys want to get to 7-3 and their Bye Week and then rest Romo.

They have a rough stretch of games coming up and they want their magic number to get in the playoffs to be as few as possible.

These last two losses have to have Garrett concerned.

Things were going so well...

hmmmm...

The only case for starting Weeden is that it could limit Romo's risk of further injuring that back and throwing our season down the drain.

But from a tactical standpoint, there's no advantage to starting Weeden. He can't be relied upon to make a second read, hit an open receiver or avoid chocking it up to the opponent.

Pass.

This is just what I'm thinking. Some may not agree, and the team would never admit it, but I think there's a level of desperation involved here, to stop this two-game slide and regain some momentum.

Going into the bye, the team needs to right the ship and show they're back on course to the playoffs rather than two weeks of worry and doubt about the wheels falling off and the season slipping away.

For a game against an out of conference team with a bad record and thought of as one of the league's worst teams, I think this one is pretty important and an odd 'must win'.

I wasn't for Romo going back in during the Skins game. May have made him playing last week, even more unlikely. He seems good to go this week, so you have to start Romo. We've already dropped back to back games & staying even with the Eagles ain't good enough. We have to gain ground going into the Bye & the trust in Weeden is at an all time low for this team. You just can't chance him laying another egg & we get embarrassed by the Jags. If Tony can go, he goes. An extra week off wont change what he's dealing with, because he still has 7 more ( regular season ) games to go & anything can happen.

Why not just cut Romo and start Weeden the rest of the way.

After all -- you called Romo a mediocre quarterback (among other things) just this week. Why not just send the old man packing and groom Weeden until we can get a draft pick.

he did? lol. And he's jonesing for Weeden to start? Now I have heard it all..

The Jags are still an NFL team that has been able to score points. Weeden threw one garbage TD against the Skins last week. Romo's specific injury is minor. He COULD get hurt again but with our scheduale, I'd rather be 7-3 going into the bye then 6-4. Romo comes out unscathed, he'll have a full week to rest.

If Weeden had shown ANYTHING that said NFL QB last week, then its pretty likely Romo wouldn't be starting but it would only be an extra precaution.

I have no problem starting Romo tomorrow if he's physically fit enough to do so. I also had no problem with him finishing the game in Washington. I'm pretty taken back by the number of folks who seem to have forgotten his ability to deliver even when physically compromised.

That said, I think some are being unduly hard on Weeden. I thought his play vs Washington was fools gold because the plays he made were really gimme's. He then crashed to earth the next week vs AZ. But his track record is he's inconsistent, not that he is incapable of good play. I don't think its quite fair to make Weeden's play last week the ceiling of what he can do.

Now that said, I am in no hurry to have him out there in a critical situation, which is why Romo returning vs Washington made sense to me. But I don't think he is incapable of decent play.
