Can we stop panicking now?

No one said they did everything right. They were 13-3 despite the defense last year. And when it came down to it....that defense looked like it was a 7-9 defense when it mattered in the playoffs.

They were 13-3. That's a fact. With some tweaks they could have improved the defense immediately while still adding youth to the secondary.

They chose to be frugal yet again. And now we are paying for it.

Yeah- I was never a Panic or Doom type, but the Gloom still lingers. We did what we were supposed to do- beat a bad 49ers team. Now let's go take care of the Commanders.

So you expect for the young guys to come in and be Pro Bowlers off the back?

The phrase is "off the bat" right off the bat.

No, I don't expect that at all. And that's not the problem with this defense. That is what I am saying. Jourdan Lewis is playing well for the most part. Some bumps and hiccups, but he's not the reason for this team's struggles.

Did you watch the playoffs? I'm one of the few that defended Carr and Claiborne but what did they do last year to warrant coming back?

Have you seen how well both are playing now? Carr has more interceptions and big plays in 5 weeks than he had during his entire tenure in Dallas. Much like he did in Kansas City, before he came here. What does that tell you?

And Claiborne is doing a nice job for the Jets. Far better than their big money cornerback Skrine. But they "warranted coming back" because neither was the epic failure that Nolan Carroll - the guy this staff chose - was. The only thing the Carroll signing accomplished was weakening the team and throwing $4 million into a fire.

This team isn't struggling because of "young players", they're struggling because of poor scheme and coaching and atrocious personnel decisions.

In your desire to make a person who may disagree with you look bad and also try to gain double points if said person is a mod...where exactly did I flip flop?

I said it is the Cowboys Fandom Way..the panic will not stop...and it will not stop unless we go on some crazy winning run...which I also laughed at the idea of happening earlier last week as well.

So...please again...show me where I flip flopped.

I will sit back and wait for your goal post moving to try and prove something you cannot prove...or for your admittance that you were wrong, without actually saying you were wrong by saying something like...Oh..>I gotcha ya,

Just like how you flip flopped on your response here. "Changing the goal post" as you put it with a drawn out, defensive, angry explanation that tries to shift the message.

But to answer your question completely:

In preseason I cracked a sarcastic joke something to the affect of: "looks like the season is already over"

You blew up, were very rude and actually told me to leave the site and never come back. Even after I informed you that it was a sarcastic joke you continue to pull your tough guy attitude on me. No big deal.

After the loss prior to the last you were lamenting with many of us that things were not looking good. You were in fact being negative as were many.

Now this week after a blowout win you are lamenting with posters that are hammering on the doom and gloomers. Switch BACK to the OTHER side one could say. In my book that is flip flopping twice. Just pointing it out. Not rudely like you do, but rather off handed. You ,however, asked for a more detailed response so I gave it to you.

Ok, now you can bring on the angry rant.

Ok....but I never said Jourdan Lewis was playing bad? Or even listed Lewis as the guys who are playing like rookies......

I don't care what Carr and Claiborne are doing for other teams. They weren't doing it here. We saw enough from them to know that they wouldn't do it here. Guys leave organizations and play better in a new change of scenery.

ITs well documented that Claiborne and Carr never fit what we were trying to do here and we were attempting to try and change their game to fit what we do here.

I'm just not sure how many more poor performances from this secondary would it take for you guys to move on from those guys.

With what tweaks? Trade for Marcus Peters are corner and Earl Thomas at safety?Trade for Von Miller and Aaron Donald? That would've helped this defense.

That probably would've helped us.

So you are going to move the goal posts instead of apologizing or admitting you can find no part what so ever where I am flip flopping like I said you would.

Par for the course with you.

Typical, strawman response from the homer crowd.

Here's a suggestion. How about go out and sign one of the multitude of vet safeties that were out there? Grab TJ Ward when he was available? That would have helped. Maybe go out and find a real 1 tech instead of banking on Paea, who had an injury history? How about go out and find a real CB other than a total dog in Carroll?

All of those would have helped and made the defense better while you waited for Lewis and Awuzie to come along.

Deep down you know that but you are in full blown front office defense mode now.

And yet you want to blame the defensive issues on "young guys". That's my point, "young guys" is a poor excuse, and not any reason why this defense has been struggling.

The truth hurts. Great players before, mediocre here. Great players again afterwards. There's a clear pattern at work.

And again, these bozos chose to replace them with Nolan frickin' Carroll. A guy so awful that he was cut after a game on the field. You couldn't do worse than that if you intentionally tried.

Oh and apologizing is such a big part of your character now isnt it? LOL

I gave you a more drawn out response, but I can be the bigger man.

If somehow I took your message wrong (like how you took my message when I was joking) then I apologize. :yourock:

I gave you an out of saying...I gotcha ya.

But since you apologized officially I will say thank you and accepted.

What I said really was not a flip flop. Frankly it is the truth. Good season or not...Cowboys Fandom will always panic.

As I stated in another thread...I predicted a record before the season and I am sticking to it. (9-7)
This team is too bi polar right now.

I will say this though...after a good win, I don't like people being too down on the team the first evening or so.
I always so to enjoy the win for the day.

I said during the offseason following the draft and before training camp started the front office made the calculated decision, with it's eyes wide open, to let a bunch of defensive vets walk and go with a youth movement in the draft to shore up the defense, especially our secondary.

And this was going to AT LEAST cost us a few early games as the rookies played their way into the league.

As the last 3 games have shown, there's nothing wrong with that offense. It's the defense collapsing in the 4th that cost us wins vs the Rams and then the Packers. 2-3 key plays and we're looking at 5-1 instead of 3-3.

Well so be it. It is what it is. A choice was made, the consequences have to be faced. The defense isn't there yet. Too many new pieces, including our 'redshirt' MLB Jaylon Smith. We have a CHANCE that the coaches and the players on that defense can get it together over the remaining 10 games so that we don't drop that many more contests where the offense puts up 30+.

We knew going into this year the defense was a work in progress and a lot hinged on if that unit can come together and forge itself in at least an average NFL unit. I liked what I saw today, but there's a ways to go.
This is a good post!

Just goin' off trends. There's no way some of the curmudgeons around here would stand for a prolonged celebration before pulling out their billy-clubs and beating down optimism.

Yep, everyone needs to shut up because...we've got some panickin' to do..
Nobody is saying not to celebrate, all I said was to tap the brakes on the top 5 talk, it’s premature.

Does Alabama beat their chest and claim they are the team to beat after defeating Western Omaha? Or do they wait until they beat Ohio State before doing that?

We beat the equivalent of Western Omaha yesterday so let’s keep things in perspective.

I think that 9-7 or 10-6 with this tough schedule. If Zeke serves his 6 games it could be worse.

I dont see anything to be down about after a game like that. But it is difficult coming on the site and having people brag that we are going to the SB. For me, that brings down the win for me.

The last two weeks were a special kind of punishment, reading all of the doom threads on CZ. After this win, I hope now that everyone can come to their senses and realize that we’re a really darn good football team that will be in the thick of it come January.

This offense is the same offense that we had last year - but better. The Cowboys are averaging more than 32 - that’s right, 32 - points per game over the last four games. Dak’s game has improved as well, and the chemistry with Dez is noticeable.

The average age of our o-line starters is 25. Dak is 24 and Elliot is 23. The offense is going to be good for a very, very long time.

Last year the defense was the culprit. It still is, and was in all three losses this year. However it is noticeably better than last year, and it’s much younger.

On defense we are generating more pressure than last year - a lot more. Last year we had 36 sacks for the entire year. This year, DLaw alone has 9.5 sacks through 6 games and we’re on pace for 60 for the year. And what’s better, the sacks are coming from the defensive line, so we haven’t needed to blitz.

The secondary is young - three of the four starters have two or less years of experience, and they’re balling. You can see them coming together before your very eyes.

Our weak point has been at linebacker, broken tackles and overrunning plays, and especially weak against the run. But in two of our three losses, we were missing both Lee and Hitchens. We gave up 35 points in both of those games.

Oh yeah, and we still have the most accurate kicker in NFL history on the roster (pending his injury today, of course).

The panic and doom threads should stop now. This is a top 5 football team that is young and will be good for YEARS. The team is only going to get better. In a wide open year where there isn’t one clear dominant team, there’s no reason why the Cowboys shouldn’t represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

When they do, you heard it here first. ;)
We beat one of the WORST TEAMS in the league....

There is still much to be concerned.... just look st the next games.

I just don't believe in using a band aid to heal up a gun shot wound.

And you think if we had TJ Ward right now we wouldn't be 3-3? He's just a name at this point in his career.

Are you trolling me or what is the disconnect here? Is Jourdan Lewis the only young player you think is on this roster?
