Matt Eberflus - Cowboys offered him D-Coordnator job

Of course, it's a negative on the Cowboys if they offer him the job and a negative if they don't. Some posters are here to create a complaint no matter what the Cowboys do.

It's like with O-Line coach ... fans trashed the Cowboys for going with an inexperienced Marc Colombo as O-Line coach (even though they actually didn't - they just decided to get a head start on the complaining), and then when they actually hired a very experienced head coach the fans trash the Cowboys for that.
Exactly.
Fans were mad they didnt offer Eberflus a DC role, but they did, and fans are mad because they did, lol. And it was all pointless because Eberflus respected Rod too much to take his job in any case.

Maybe those fans are the ones that should go to Indy.

While I agree with your point on the negativity, the reality is that if the Cowboys wanted Eberflus to be the DC and not Marinelli, they should've simply fired Rod and hired Eberflus. In all likelihood, they didn't want to change, they did it to try to retain Eberflus, but that's a jacked way to run a railroad.
What part of "didn't wanna step on Rod's toes" makes you think Eberflus would have taken the job had they outright fired Rod?

Rod wants to coach DL, he could care less about the rest of this crap.

They want him as their DC in waiting, assured him that position was his (which probably also meant making the case that the HC is firmly in place), but that they couldn't offer him anything more than that #2 defensive coaching position with the Cowboys right now. Of course he'd take the number 1 coaching job elsewhere.
No.

Eberflus has been with the Cowboys for years. One more year where his authority is clearly expanded, while getting the title and pay of DC, and being promised the job the following year is a no brainer to stay - *if* you would rather be DC under Garrett and Jerry than DC under McDaniels in Indy.

This is was a vote of no confidence for Cowboy management, pure and simple.

Another thing is Jerry HATES paying coaches who aren't coaching. It's not a coincidence that everyone left on the staff has money owed to them and everybody else that was let go are free agents.

Which plays against the "Garrett has a year to get it right" narrative some people are pushing. We're turning over almost all assistants this year. They all get contracts, and probably not for just a year. Is Jerry going to dump Garrett and eat all those contracts next year? Is he expecting to hire a HC next year with no say in his staff?

I don't think there was anyway to keep him. I imagine he wanted to be his own person and work with mcdaniels.

Those old ohio ties.

I just heard on the ticket the cowboys were going to hire Ken Norton Jr to the defensive coordinator.

No answer on what happened. That was all I heard.

They should have made Eberflus an asst. HC along with his most recent title. Then when Marinelli retires he could step into DC. Dallas screwed up in a way because he's someone to try at DC. He knows these players. He has been a part of bringing in some of them.

..wow...! and the beat goes on. Sigh.... Of all the resources that are available to Jones. He picks from the bottom of the barrel... 2018 looking already like that typical banner year for Dallas.

We'll probably hire a DC who has no experience or is 70 years old or used to play on the practice team or is from Dallas.....
We have no desire to find a badass, young and innovative defensive guy because this franchise puts ALL of their eggs in the loyalty basket instead of what's best for the team or best for the job.

Not at all. It's a DC job now, with someone you know you'd like to work for, v. a possible DC job in a year or three, if the current staff is still in place.

You're assuming it would be only one year before Marinelli retires, and that Jerry was willing to pay him like a second DC in the interim. Then there's still the idea that he'd be pushing a man he probably respects into retirement if he goes that route, on top of the fact that it'd be a fairly dysfunctional relationship until the transition was made for real. Not remotely the same circumstances.

We don't have a job opening for DC.

Real question now, does Rod still get the assistant HC still? Or did they pull that from the table?

I think this is the Cowboys not wanting to make a change, but also wanting to keep Eberflus. So, they decided to see if they could move some titles around and make him stay, even though things would essentially still be the same. Matt was like, nah, I'll take the real promotion, thanks.

Don't you just love *****-footing? Who likes bold, smart moves anyway? Can't hurt feelings and maintain your image as a "Destination".
Let's make sure everyone is nice and comfy, within the confines of what Jerry wants...

Too bad that stuff don't fly with a lot of people that actually like winning.
