Tell me why you’d pay Dak?

Fair point about point 2, but don't you think a better coach could help Dak improve? I mean, let's face it, Garrett's terrible. I see Dak as more of a WCO-type of QB. Not a sit in the pocket and pick a defence apart QB. That's why I think he looks uncomfortable in this offence. He's in a system that doesn't suit him. I could be wrong, but I think the problem is the coach. If Dak's terrible after Garrett's gone too, then great, let's get a new QB, but I think that a WCO-style coach would suit Dak better.

No, I don't think a better coach will help Dak improve the same way the 5 coaches and multiple OCs didn't help Jay Cutler. You can help a QB with mechanics and footwork by coaching, but there's little you can do if they don't have the football intellect or be mentally tough in the pocket.

What we are seeing from Dak right now is most likely far closer to the truth of what he is than what we saw his rookie season. It sucks, but it is what it is. Gotta find a better QB soon.

Okay, fair enough. What QBs do you see in college atm that would fit our offence better than Dak.

If things aren’t going perfect for him he looks like a deer in headlights.

The main problem is in his head.

All those things Dak "can't do", he was doing just fine as a rookie. In fact, he was doing great. Cool and composed. In control, and making good decisions.

Now, he's too panicky.

All the failings we're seeing are in his head, and are *exactly* detailed in his combine profile.

I don't think it's just Zeke. Plenty of plays broke down his rookie year too. But he dealt with them great.

Nate's words after Atlanta were right on target: You don't let a young QB get hit like that.

The pummelling took Dak's head to the panicky place.

This is the deal for lots of QBs. It's their heads that keep them from being great. QB is a head game of risk taking and decision making. It's keeping your emotions under control, weighing the risks, and executing. The great ones stay in control over most of their career. The not so great swing between good and crappy with their emotional swings.

Dak seemed like a robot for much of his rookie year. He was a machine. Nothing phased him. He just played.

As a rookie, it was all opportunity. Now he has something to live up to, and an image to lose. It's harder to do it when you have something to lose. It's harder to do it the more you're getting whacked around.

Getting Dak's head right this offseason should have been the #1 priority. Instead, we hired the water boy as QB coach.

A *colossal* management failure that may cost the franchise for the next decade. Jerry treats the coaching staff like it's a practice squad for developmental players. Garrett for a decade. Now Moore.

Maybe Dak could return to form. Maybe he will. But it's silly to argue that we've hired the best people to make that happen.

I don't expect us to have the same offense next year because if we fail, I see Garrett being fired and the rest of the gang leaving with him. So, not entirely sure who will fit best. Will have to wait for Garrett's replacement.

As for who I like, I posted in the draft forum I like Drew Lock. He's raw, has accuracy issues, but physically he is gifted. Has a cannon arm, he won't be throwing anything to the dirt.

Herbert seems to be the scout darling as of right now, and Grier looks to be the too-soon Heisman # 1 candidate. It's not a great QB class, but all three of those QBs have started the season looking pretty good and their stock could rise by the end of the season. The best thing here is, they are all built like prototypical QBs.

Well, I'd be interested to see who replaces Garrett here as well. That will certainly determine the identity of the team. I think a WCO-minded HC would fit this team best personally. The question is, who will be the coach for sure. My big thing is if we get the number 1 or 2 overall pick, I'd LOVE to get the DT from UH in here. Think we've got a pretty good defence now? I think he would make us dynamic defencively. Now, maybe he is able to fall to later, but that's my big target for the early draft if we are picking very early. Now, if we can trade back a bit and then be able to maneuver into the latter part of the first round for a 1st round QB as well as get the UH DT, that'd be perfect to me.

Also, I do like that Herbert chap. He'd be a good choice. Another chap I'd like though is Clayton Thorson. He looks a bit underrated, and would be a 2nd or 3rd rounder according to Walter which means we still get the UH DT that I want. Here he is:

BTW, the DT that I really want as our first pick this year is Ed Oliver. I couldn't remember his name, but that's who I really want.

DO NOT under estimate the stupidity of one Jerry Jones. Stupid is as stupid does and Jerry has a very long history of stupid. you could see a mega deal for Dak, just saying

Dude, if you haven't noticed, Stephen has a say.. stupid spending/trades/non-cuts are behind us.

I'd pay him off to leave. Literally time to cut our losses on this guy and move forward.

I think so. I really see no way you can sign him long term. See what he does for 2 years and find a new QB in that time.

He can’t throw guys open.

He can’t accurately throw Down field.

He doesn’t make WR’s and TE’s better around
him.

He holds on to the ball too long.

If things aren’t going perfect for him he looks like a deer in headlights.

We have all admitted he is not good when Zeke isn’t dominating.

So my question is why are we going to pay this guy 100 million dollars ?
This is a question the owner will be faced with at some point. If this season starts to tank, they should go get Manziel at least he would be entertaining and he would probably not listen to the coaching. :)

NO Sir---- a QB's salary is a burden for most NFL teams.....Dak's mechanics are too flawed to think he can be consistenly good unless everything is good around him...no way i pay that kind of QB 20+ million a year

You know? If we're not extending Dak and we get a QB like this chap or Herbert, maybe that frees us up more to bring in some big time FA talent. If the only player we're really going to need to worry about extending before long is Zeke, then we might as well make a big push on some FA talent like ET. Then draft Ed Oliver early and then one of these QBs in round 2, and I think we'll be in brilliant shape next year. Especially with a new coach.
