If he was good sure. Many great players are awful in teaching and scouting. Not saying Romo would fall in that camp but just because he's a genius offensive kind does not mean he'd be a genius coach.

Having said that there is obvious correlation but I wonder if there is a causual relationship between Dak being great and having Romo in his headset.

This started to naw at me watching this offense slide into the abyss.

Since Romo retired..

DAK has steadily regressed since his rookie year.

DAKOTA played so well with Romo mentoring him..

we have to consider Romo as a coach who might fix the offensive issues.

Now..

Would Tony consider leaving broadcasting to stay closer to his team?

I think yes.

Could he work with Garrett and avoid concerns with Jerrah?

I think yes.

Would Jerrah pay him double what CBS is paying him?

I think yes.

Jerrah would do anything to stop his team from more collapse.

Comments?
Heck no. Romo played in a way that not many other than Favre could. Playing sandlot football isn’t something that can be taught. He audibled so much he wouldn’t know what it would mean for a QB to listen to him.

Remember when Peyton was out for the year with Indy and I think he helped game plan and may have even called plays after the record got so bad. The backup couldn’t translate what Peyton saw because like many math teachers it’s hard to communicate what comes naturally.

Aren't you glad we stepped up from that to Kellen Moore? I almost want to say CHAMPIONSHIP!
It is little wonder DAK and the offense is sputtering.

New OL coach
Romo would never take the gig. He's got a nice cushy job that pays millions and he has a limited work schedule.

Being an NFL coach/coordinator is a grind.
You really think?

I read Tony differently.

I think he would like the opportunity to win a SB with Dallas..

even as an offensive coach.

He is not going to play pro golf..

he can always return to the booth if he wants later.

I wish somebody would ask him if coaching interests him in the right situation.?

Rumor had it, from Brice Butler, that Romo largely was the OC. Said when he came over to the Cowboys he was shocked to see Romo installing the offense every week. "Coaches don't coach."

I'm dying to know if Romo was still installing the offense every week in 2016.

It would explain a lot about the offense's collapse in 2017.

To be honest, Romo's best plays were when the original play broke down and he had to create some magic. I've often wondered if there was a stat or a website that tracked a team's success on the initial play call vs improvisation.

He’s not ready. He’s never even been a position coach yet. Being an offensive coordinator in the NFL is a very tough and complicated job. It takes some seasoning before being ready. There’s a reason players don’t retire and get appointed a HC or coordinator position. They aren’t ready.

Most respectable organizations don’t name someone an OC with one year of retirement in a TV booth and zero experience coaching.

Look, too many people think that a good football player automatically translates to a good coach. Sometimes they do. I think...emphasis think, that Tony Romo might be a good coach someday. But don’t base that on how smart he sounds in a TV booth.

Being an excellent OC takes some experience IMO, and despite Romo’s excellent football knowledge, he is a long way from being ready to be an NFL OC. Let’s see if he coach QBs or receivers first.

Actually, I think Romo could've called an entire game from under center. Every single play himself. He'd make an awesome play-calling HC.

He has zero coaching experience, I would rather a proper coaching hiring, a head coach who picks his own staff, etc. but I don't think that will happen.

So if Romo is willing, yes!

As much as I'd like that, it's time to start over. New Head Coach, new Offensive Coordinator, new defensive Coordinator, new QB, new receivers, and new janitor.

You know these guys over-exaggerate everything in favor of Romo. Of course Romo helped a little. He didn't turn his back on Dak but it should have been common knowledge it was Sanchez being the main mentor to Dak. Yet these guys will continue to give Romo all the credit and not mention the main guy. It is mind boggling.

You could say Dak started regressing when Romo came back and was in his ear as the back up QB.
The art of story telling it’s cute

I respect this but with that said..........do you really think Romo would do worse than Linehan? He knows this team and their tendencies well, he would have a better chance of succeeding here than some new team.
He might be worse. Don’t underestimate the importance of being prepared to coach. I have a son who is a HS coach and most people do not understand how demanding it is. Being an OC is a lot more than just calling plays. Requires a ton of organization, structure, being able to hold players accountable. I’m certainly not saying TR couldn’t do all that. But I am saying he’s not ready yet.

Something tells me he feels done dirty by Garrett/Linehan and wouldn't work for them again. Now if Garrett and Linehan were fired and a new coach brought Tony in as a QB coach, I'd be good with that to try his coaching chops. He's definitely not ready to OC.
