Colin Cowherd thinks the Cowboys should draft a Quarterback high in the draft. There is lots of smoke around Dak wanting to be paid like a top tier Quarterback. It will be interesting to see what happens if the safeties have all been picked and a Quarterback like Grier is on the board at 58.

I guess you haters can dream. LOL

Smart thing to do, 2 years at most and you know if he's the guy and that costs 1 tag so total is 15M averaged, save the $$$$ and avoid a huge mistake, just plain smart. Dak has a over valued view of himself if he thinks he's worth 30M a year, tag him and see if any one wants to give up those 2 first rounders for him.(bet there are no takers)

Maybe you didn't read so good. Next year he will get 28 million and the year after that is 30 million. So yah, the price is only 2 million this year, but your still paying those high amounts going forward. Averaging it out looks good on paper, but it does little for your full cap hit next year and the year after.

All good and fine, except that 1) Jerry Jones is the owner/GM, and 2) Jerry Jones is all-in on Dak Prescott being our franchise QB going forward.

Anyone remember any major problems Jerry had with paying Tony Romo then-current market-value? Well, he’s not gonna have any problems paying Dak at today’s rate, either...and son Stephen, or anyone else, isn't gonna talk him out of it. You can take that to the bank.
you are most likely right we will see, unfortunately one thing that can't be fixed is "Stupid".

RIF my friend, I said 2 years 1 tag, take the hit next year no 3rd year tag he's signed or gone depending on how he plays after 2 more years.

Plenty of time to work this out, Dak is still cheap this year and the FO knows this. Heck, they could sign a 3 year deal now for 60 million and achieve the same $$$s as this years pay and two franchise tags.

I know there has been a ton of in-fighting on the board about Dak, since that is the case here I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is happening in the FO. IMHO the Foles contract threw a wrench in this negotiating sequence. We've built a team for a bus driver, not an elite QB. In doing so, maybe they figure they can't keep an elite team and pay the QB an elite price. If Dak was smart, take the 20 million, stay with the Boys and make up the difference as the QB of Americas team in endorsements and fame as the QB of the number 1 marketed team.

Or, take the chance and play out your contract at 2 million this year and let your play this season determine a greater value, if you produce.

Personally, I would be interested to see Dak on the tag next year, just to see if anyone in the rest of the league thinks he is worth 2 1st round picks. Dak could be our Herschel Walker next year. Could you imagine if Mike White actually can produce and we could get 2 1st round picks next year for Dak, that would be a win-win for anyone who considers themselves a Cowboys fan!

Mike White? LOL

I almost want to see it happen and go through 8 years of trying to find the next franchise QB like we did in between Aikman and Romo. And then laughing at you Dak hating trolls as you try to sell every lame QB that comes through here. LOL

Fact of the matter is that the FO loves Dak. They know what they have there. For Dak, his salary is only going up. It was the same problem with Lawrence. As long as he is confident in his abilities, which he is, he gets paid big money on the franchise tag, and every year that the process gets delayed, his asking price goes up as the market goes up. Just like how Dak's asking price probably went up when Wilson signed. Two years from now he will be asking for 35 million per year.

Its also very easy to see that the Cowboys are getting better. Dak is getting better, the offense and weapons are getting better, the defense is getting better. The offense is primed for a much better year then last year.

Im all for playing hard ball, but they have to know that he price is only going up.

If your not confident that Dak is your guy, then your way would be the best way. If you know that Dak is your guy, then signing him now is the best time to do it.

Boy can you imagine this team with two 1st round picks in back to back years, with one each year most likely being a top 15 or better? You know how much damage we could do adding those to defense? You could still draft a QB in any round, not forced to use a top pick on QB.

This is assuming a team actually ponies up the picks on a trade and I think we're all curious if any team will make an offer.

How do you know Dak will not get injured this season? Then you are on the Hook for guaranteed money. I'm just saying that the price might not be going up. I think it sort of a prove it year for Dak.

It’s a safety net.

Let him play out the last year on his deal and see where he is as a QB after 2019.

It's also a huge bit of negotiating leverage. Dallas has the advantage for the next two years if they so choose. Two years for Dak to either increase or decrease his value, and two years where he risks injury.

If the Cowboys aren't getting a discount for paying him early, they have no reason to do so.

If he is the guy, make him prove it. I’m sure some stand in the camp of him already being elite, but he’s not. He’s a middle of the road QB right now. Handing a 30 million+ deal with guarantees approaching 100 million is risky itself. Handing it to a middle of the road QB can destroy your cap for a very long time in NFL years. If he’s not that elite guy, you avoid a crisis. If he morphs into that elite QB, even better. Maybe you end up paying a few million more on the back end, but it’s worth it to know you aren’t mistakenly committing 100 million in guarantees. If his play is at the same level as it has been, he doesn’t deserve anything close to 30+ and they should let him walk.

If the first tag is at $28 the second tag would be a minimum of $33.6 (120% of previous salary or average of top 5, whichever is higher) A second tag would be ridiculous, because at that point, you're not serious about resigning him and we should have gotten another QB before that.
