Cooper should have been extended as part of the trade. It was dumb not to do it then.
And if Cooper (who was on a little bit of a downward trend in production) had not played well and had made little difference in the offense, Jerry and Stephen would have been burned at the stake for giving the guy a lot of money before making sure he was worth it.

Don't forget the first round pick !

The sad part is that if we pay Zeke a huge amount, other players will get less.

It was a great trade for Dallas... but yes, if he hadn’t done well they would have been skewered for giving up the pick. However signing him to a big deal would have made it much, much worse. I completely understand why the team wanted to see production on their own team before giving him a big contract.

It would have been too risky to do at the time of the trade.

So, you don't think discussing this in the media doesn't draw attention from agents and players around the league and particularly the agents for these players. You are not going to excuse the excess talk and discussing these things publicly, when no one else does it, as accepted management. So yeah, I am smarter than those two because I would have kept my mouth shut and not started this in the first place.

Did Eagles managamenet talk about Wentz deal? Did he still get big bucks? Did Steelers talk about Antonio Brown or L. Bell? I dont remember the Jets saying they were gonna spend big dollars for a free agent RB, but they did. I dont remember the Saints saying anyting about Thomas...... but we heard Thomas agent saying 20 mill was what they were looking for and it is exactly what they got. So if the Jones did speak in the media everyday about how they were not spending a ton on any one position.... you think that would then get them cheaper deals with Dak, Zeke and Cooper? Cmon

Yeah, well, it's not simply a matter of telling them they'll get paid -- they know that already . . . it's more a foolish matter of boasting repeatedly that they'll be paid generously and then requiring them to seriously consider a "team-friendly" deal. Big difference there, my friend. Words do matter, plenty. The media doesn't drive the contracts -- it's the CBA and those involved in the negotiating process that do, when push comes to shove.
BINGO! Its the CBA, the amount of the cap, expected Cap increases that drive these contracts. Daks dollar amount is predetermined based upon what others are getting.... not the exact amount , but the upper and lower amount of the deal is, same with guarantees. You think what all the other QBs just got doesnt impact Dak? Why do you think Cooper was in no hurry to sign a deal? Because he KNEW Julio and Thomas were about to get done, and those contracts are gonna drive his deal more than any words that come out of Jerry's mouth.

Face it, we are **.... big time in the next 3 years. They have drafted well, and when we lose some of those picks becayse they are getting paid by other teams, dont blame out FO. Like I said, Jaylon adn Leighton are gonna get paid..... will it be here is the question. This is already determined, and I havent heard a word from anyone about theose two players deals.

Wait till next year when Kamara demands a new deal as well as Tyreke Hill...... and I dont heear their FO talking about new deals, but you can sleep well knowing Kamara is gonna want one NEXT year.

Elliott, Cooper and Prescott are all proving that winning rings really don't matter to them. All they want is their money. No team can pay all their stars league setting contracts. There isn't enough money under the cap to do that. So if they get theirs then the team suffers because then the team has to either release other players and sign cheaper ones or redo contracts that only adds dead money down the road which then will make it that much hard in those years to pay good players.

The problem with them speaking in public continuously is it’s not only attempting to shape the narrative to the media and fans but also influence negotiations. It’s really difficult at least at this time to measure how much it will effect the details of contract which I don’t believe are the intentions of the publicity.

Winning rings isn’t a personal priority. Fans get entirely too caught up in their own agendas and bragging rights.

Ultimately it’s the team goal but these players know their career could end on the next play so they’re usually looking out for their personal interest.

...now he doesn't know whether to slay it or feed it!
Jerry going around and telling every open mic that we were going to sign Dak, Coop and Zeke. What did he expect? If he doesn't sign these guys it's gonna be a long tension filled season. Zeke gets signed and Dak doesn't, I don't think Dak will be happy and vice versa. He needs to find a way to sign them all before the season. IMO
Zeke has proven his worth I'd sign him to a 4 yr deal. Dak is yet to prove that he is worth 32 million. I'd sign Dak next off season if he doesn't flop. Amari gave us a 7 game serving of his skills and abilities. Is that enough to pay him 25 million? Its risky to sign Dak or Amari. They pretty much depend on each other to be successful. Let's wait till next season after both has had the chance to prove their worth.

Looks like all 3 of the triplets want top 5 money.

Only Zeke has top 5 stats.
Yep

I’d only sign Zeke now cause he’s forcing the issue.

We can push Dak until next year and Cooper too. I really can’t see ya signing Cooper long term. I see him more of a Franchise Tag next year.

And unless Dak develops into more than an average passer I’d pay him as such. In the mid 20 million range.

Too late. Don't ask someone what they want for dinner and then tell them you're not cooking.

This should have been kept on the QT but now it's all out in the open and Prescott's value and worth being openly discussed on sports shows the individual's ego will get involved, that is inevitable. No way he's taking anything in the 20's now and he and his agent know the Cowboys limited options but way beyond that is one irrefutable fact, they know the Joneses need to look good. What if they play hardball with Prescott, take a chance at drafting his replacement and they come up snake eyes? We're talking about a team that relies more on luck than skill to find a QB. If not for Payton being there and Elway out bidding them in a trade, we might be wishing we were CLE and DET fans.

Y'all can talk all ya want about Booger being this great businessman but he's a crappy negotiator because he breaks the first cardinal rule of negotiation, never, NEVER, tell the other party what you're thinking. LMAO, he and his idiot son tell everyone.

This is what I think happened and part of it I know. The younger magpie went out there shooting his mouth off without really thinking it through, that's the part I know. Once they sat down and started calculating just how much they would have committed to the O side of the ball and the ultimate effect on the D side, the part they were trying to build, they freaked. Add to that 21M to one D player. This team could have the highest payroll on the O side of the ball and not crack the top 10 in O. Unlike Booger's ridiculous comment about Romo, I do not buy players play better the better they're paid. They could be paying for a Rolls Royce O and watching a Dodge one play.

Damn me, I wish this wasn't my team because I'd really like to watch these two aholes flame out.

Dak and Cooper are already signed for 2019 they have until March to resign them. Neither of them are holding out and arent concerned that a deal wont get done. Elliot is a different case because RBs are disposable in the NFL, but what he is failing to realize is the Cowboys dont operate like that. They take care of their stars. So IMO hes wrong here especially after the loyalty Jerry has shown him.
