Supposedly the Jones' were waiting for Julio and the Falcons to set the market. We don't have that excuse anymore. Julio just signed a 3 year extension today. I do not know the particulars, but now it seems we can go ahead and complete the Cooper deal pronto. Dak as well...he should be getting done this week.

We have Gravely overestimated the Coop man! He is no Julio and not even close to that amount of cap dollars.
Our GM extraordinaire traded for him and one of the clauses should have been he signs his new deal with the Cowboys but once again Jerry wasn't thinking past his latest bottle of JB.
Well get ready to OVERPAY for Coop as that no 1 pick we gave up needs its due.
Dak can wait he ain't going anywhere soon....

That’s nonsense. You can’t just make a clause forcing someone to re-sign. Terms have to be agreed on, and if they were able to do that they would have just signed an extension then.

Not that he expects to get anywhere close to Jones money but market value for the position will put him in win win EVEN he's hit with franchise tag.

Julio Jones is expected to push the receiver market to $22 million per year

Falcons receiver Julio Jones arguably is the best in the league at what he does. He’s about to be paid better than any other person who ever has played the position.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL reports that Jones’ new contract extension will pay out roughly $66 million over three years. That’s $22 million in new money.
No prob!
Jerry, show Amari the money!

Julio doesn’t set Coopers market value. Julio has had over 1400 yards per year the last 5 straight years, and Cooper has been under 1,000 the last 2 years, and his career high is 1,153.

At best Julio’s signing gives Cooper a stronger argument for $17-18 million per year, but he won’t be at Julio’s level.

Exactly......that's my point. Hell, as you can see below, the 2020 franchise alone will likely put him near or over $18M. As mentioned earlier, I'm guessing our current offer on the table $15-16M. Not hard to see why Coop is saying I'll wait until next year and make a few extra millions off the market resetting. So his floor with then tag around $18M but Jerry can make him the 2nd highest-paid WR for just 200K over $18M.

But what Coop and his agent are asking $20-21M?

The tag values are below, via Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer:

POSITION SALARY
Quarterback $24 865 000
Running Back $11 214 000
Wide Receiver $16 787 000
Tight End $10 387 000
Offensive Lineman $14 067 000
Defensive End $17 128 000
Defensive Tackle $15 209 000
Linebacker $15 443 000
Cornerback $16 022 000
Safety $11 150 000
Kicker/Punter $4 971 000

Top 5 WRs salaries .......of course Brown is on longer 2nd
  • Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr.: $18 million.
  • Raiders WR Antonio Brown: $16.7 million.
  • Buccaneers WR Mike Evans: $16.5 million.
  • Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins: $16.2 million.
  • Rams WR Brandin Cooks: $16.2 million.
  • Vikings WR Adam Thielen: $16.2 million.

Cooper is not as good as Jones.

So the bar needs to be lower.

Yet the guy averages about 6 TD's a year, if that. He had 1800 yards and 3 TD's one year.

This is what D-Law, Zeke, Dak and Amari Cooper's plot has been all about: waiting, delaying, holding out and taking jabs in order to get paid highest in the league at their respective positions. The employees are controlling the company, and Jerry & Stephen have caved in to them.
Who is laughing or excited now? o_O:facepalm:

Ya think? lol

Jones is a top 3 WR. Cooper is still proving he's a consistent #1.
Cooper is probably around the #5-#10 best WR among active receivers, but he's as consistent as he was in oakland. Some really special games, some good games, some below average games.

Bottom line.......Adding approx $1.4M to 2019 franchise tag figure of $16.7M ($18.1M) would make Coop the 2nd highest-paid WR doing absolutely nothing waiting for the tag or telling Stephen his negotiation floor startes at $18.1M.

That puts Coop at 18-20 range.......dam

Zeke at 15
Dak at 32-34
Coop at 18-20

We better be a top 5 offense for this much coin!

We'll sacrifice defense to sign them and it'll be the Romo era all over again, trying to outscore your own middling defense.
