I am strongly considering giving up my fan hood and watching the NFL

It would have been inconceivable to me years ago but I am strongly considering giving up my fan hood and watching any NFL. I know it sounds maudlin and dramatic but I have lost so much joy for the league and have interests elsewhere that I actually think it could happen. I am a hockey maniac so it’s not like there is no winter sport for me. Cowboys aside I hate what this league has done and the games are unwatchable at times. I also have no hope that the Cowboys will re capture their glory as long as the Jones family owns them. I used to think things would be better when Jerry passed on but I think Stephen will be worse is some ways. Watching this team sleep walk through the last 3 games and Jerry defending this clown of a coach has me nearing the end of the line. I went Salmon fishing the last few days so really didn’t pay attention to the game. My buddy and I were actually howling over the Jets beating them. I dropped a note here early last week and all but predicted how that game could turn out. It did.

My doomsday clock is at about 11:50. Where are you guys at? Could you give up football?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
What a baby! Just go, don't announce it. You remind me of a stripper!!! "Are you sure you don't want a Lap Danc!! "

It's totally your call to make. You're of course never obligated to watch any particular sport. I'm frustrated in general about the NFL. I feel like they keep doing things that make the game worse. I'm sticking it out for now, but I don't buy anywhere near the merch I used to, and I don't spend money on going to games. It's not worth it to me.

I'll always be a Cowboys fan, just maybe not a supportive one.

I have only tuned in to a handful of games outside of the boys, and typically only hopping around while watching Dallas. I haven’t watched a single Sunday night game, and only checked in on a couple Thursday games out of habit, and due to fantasy. This is also the first season ever I haven’t feverishly watched every minute of all Cowboys games.

I also haven’t passed my fandom on to my son, which at one point was one of the things I most looked forward to as a father.

feel like it’s only a matter of time before I’m completely checked out. Football in general just doesn’t matter much, and the roller coaster of being a Dallas fan has become far too taxing

I post on here and make a good effort to watch games.

I won't put games above family though. If my son wants to play outside with me then I'm going outside, even if it's the middle of the game. Don't see the kid a lot due to work during the week so he comes first on the weekends.

I don't really watch the NFL though. Maybe highlights and some FF, but I don't really care to watch football when my teams aren't playing.

Most old school people won't ever switch teams, but if there was ever a time to switch teams it would have been the day Jerry fired Jimmy/Jimmy walked out.

Actually that would have been a good time to just stop watching NFL games, Cowboys included.
If that one moment caused anyone to quit being a fan they were probably only a bandwagon fan to begin with.

So, we have fans who don’t like the NFL unless the Cowboys are successful ? Lol

I don't like a lot of stuff that's unrelated to the Cowboys. The replacement refs were awful, and there was that atrocious call in that Green Bay/Seattle game where Wilson threw a Hail Mary to the endzone and the Packer guy clearly intercepted, but they couldn't get the call right, even with replay. I've always HATED the bump and run. There should be no such penalty as "illegal contact." I don't like the "in the grasp" rule either. I also don't like how it's set up so that players today move from team to team so often. In previous decades, a player was often on one team for his whole career. I don't like how they keep talking about expanding to 18 games. I don't even like 16. 14 were enough. I also think they overcomplicated the rules for what constitutes a catch. We had that ridiculous call with Dez versus the Packers, but it also caused injustices for other teams.

My career, my terminal illness, my loved ones, my friends, my home.
Those things I will stress about. Not a game played by people that don't affect any of those things I just mentioned.

I enjoy the game. I love the team. I like you guys. I don't want to heap more stress on it though.
I may break character every once in a while, but those are generally exceptions and not the rule.

Fair enough. When you look at it that way, football seems small no doubt.

Doesn't matter who is the coach. It will always be a trashfest no matter who is at the helm.

It matters. we had hope with Parcells and Jimmy Johnson. We have none at all with Garrett. Yes the owner is complete crap, but that doesn't justify doing absolutely nothing and keeping this clown.

Welcome to the club. I have given up on the NFL. And try to watch the Cowboys when they are on locally here in Milwaukee WI. Even then I don't watch much of the game. I just can't stand the current product that the NFL puts out there. I was a super crazy psycho NFL/ Cowboys fan. It is why I am so addicted to this site.
I don't miss not watching the NFL. I have become an avid NHL fan now. The NHL now gets my money and tv viewing time. More so my family and 4 year old son gets my time over watching anything. Amazing how things change so much when I had a kid. It's like I finally realized that the NFL is just a form of entertainment. Why care so much about it? I love football and I take my kid to the local High School every Friday to enjoy some time with the kid and to get football fix.

It will be very hard to not be a Cowboys fan. I've watched religiously since 1962, starting at age 8. I've been disgusted before, but never enough to stop watching the team.

I feel I owe it to Coach Landry to stick it out.
Jerry bought the Cowboys....but not my memories of rooting for this team since March 16,1973.
Sadly this organization is nothing like the one when Coach Landry was here. He wouldn't even recognize it today. But I hear you and it's the main reason I stay.

It’s not that serious to me anymore. I’ve considered changing butt allegiance to this team for other reasons but the games itself or the teams on field performance has never made me want to give up
