The reason Belichick turned down the Jets job that Parcells had set up and went with NE was because of his relationship with Kraft and the control he would get over the roster. He may not negotiate the contracts but he does call the shots with the players.

Is Booger to that point that he would relinquish control to a coach that is the same level of control freak as Parcells? Booger was in a deep funk when he had to acquiesce control to Parcells and is he ready to admit he needs to hire the best HC in the game? Isn't that throwing in the towel on his quest to be "football man"?

There's another element to this as his son coaches for him on the D side. I also think he's got the kind of ego that he'd like to prove those that think this has been all about Brady, like some here, wrong.

Not according to any sources I've ever seen. It appears to have been Bob Ackles and his wife, Nancy Dalyrimple, Norv Turner and a "handful of others from the Cowboys & Bears organizations"

Belichick was coach in Cleveland at this time

Here's an excerpt from Bob Ackles book:

Assuming that Jerry and Garrett part ways at seasons end consider the following :

1. The Hoodies contract goes season to season, so he would be free to come to the Cowboys after the NFL season is over.

2. BB has history with Jerry.
He helped the Cowboys with player contracts before getting into coaching in the NFL.

3. The Story about Bill asking Jerry for a job in the 1990's just came to light after all these years ..hummmm.... that's interesting to say the least.

4. Jerry is 77 years of age and had be realizing his mortality.
You can't take it with you, and if Jerry wants another Superbowl, he has to see that his window is closing.
Will that mean he would give up the control he enjoys ?
He did do with Belichick's mentor Parcels so it possible.

5. The Patriots are on the way down, Brady is showing his age.
Does Bill want to be part of a rebuild ?

6. The Cowboys are quality coaching away from being a legit contender.
They have a quality core and just need a coach that can tap the potential.

7. The Dallas media has mentioned that Mr. Jones is going big game hunting for the next Head Coach.
Do they get any bigger than BB ?

Hey this is a long shot to happen , but it may be be more realistic than any of us thought.

Make it happen Jerry !!!
This would be the ultimate hire !!!

Can you imagine how he would be remembered if, after the greatest football dynasty in history, he came here, turned the team around, won a couple of Super Bowls?

None of what you are saying here is debunking anything I have said, even though you are claiming it is. You are speculating just as much if not more than I am.
Jerry may not have been happy about having to hire a new coach -- a major pain, I'm sure -- but yeah, every media person close to this team has said Jerry was miserable when Parcells was here, hence the "walking on eggshells" quote you had earlier. He wasn't having fun. And Jerry doesn't want to own the most valuable sports franchise in the world and not enjoy himself. Which he gets to do with his quasi-son in place.

The person you're "debating" with just chooses to put his head in the sand.

Imagine how he'd be remembered if he went to Dallas and never got beyond the divisional round of the playoffs.

We have Cowboys fans who trash Jimmy (when it's convenient) because he didn't win Super Bowls with over-the-hill Dan Marino, despite what he did in Dallas (and college).

Belichick is the ultimate control freak.

Many people are saying we can't attract a big name coach because Jerry will insist on maintaining his GM role, Belichick demands total autonomy.

You know you guys should just cool it.
This is a cowboys board to discuss any and all possibilities, if you don't like it, just don't read the comments .
It’s the sheer volume of a “rumor” that was just completely made up because it would be nice. It’s one thing if someone mentioned it once but every new coaching thread thinks this is actually a possibility when it’s just not.

No one in their right mind would leave a franchise with opportunities to win Super Bowls every year. No one.

Belichick would never come here, One look at our roster, and it would be a total rebuilding job, starting with a transformation to a 3-4 defense, there is no way BB would pay Dak close to 40 million, BB would find a way to get rid of Zeke as he isn't a one workhorse RB type of coach. those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head, not too mention working with the Jones clan.

How different is our roster than Giants.

QB: Dak has more years, but Bill can work with any decent QB (Matt Cassell anyone?)
RB: Same level.

Defense: BB can build this anywhere.
ST: BB can build this.

Only advantage over other teams we have is OL. This can be fixed by draft.

I expect Bill Bell to coach Giants before he could even think of us.

Belichick is also not afraid to think outside of the box, to break the bounds of conventions if that helps.

Case in point: last week's game against Dallas, when we were going North to South on the field (with the wind at our back) and ST was on the field to receive punts, Belichick had the entire backfield cleared, electing to let the wind act as the punt receiver. That was genius on several levels- it avoided the potential of a fumble, avoided the risk of another player being forced to catch the punt (as happened to the Cowboys). It also threw the Cowboys ST into disarray, so much they were called for delay of game, then illegal formation.

The wind did a very good job as a punt receiver, downing the ball at the 40 yard line at one point.

The Cowboys on the other hand? Not only did their ST act like it was an ordinary day of football, but some of them, including Dak later revealed they had never practiced in wet conditions or with wet footballs.

How the Cowboys were able to recover all 4 of their fumbles is beyond belief. I guess the good Lord wants to enjoy the Garrett circus just a little longer.
