The defense has played about inconsistently as the offense. I've criticized this defense, I think Marinelli should have been fired a long time ago. I don't make excuses for players, I have no "favorite" - I simply observe and report. So far, the players I've called out that this board used to defend are everyone's favorite scapegoats.

Everyone is the greatest player to ever step on the field when we are winning - no one ever wants to point out the flaws in those wins that could came back (and they have) and bite us. Dak, Jaylon Smith, Cooper, Zeke, etc.

Indeed.

Very few have wanted Marinelli fired (or severely demoted) longer than I have, dating back to 2017 when I could see his BBDB defensive philosophy was never going to create a turnover-laden, intimidating defense. Years later of this philosophy and this defense is mired in mediocrity. Damn the stats, this vanilla, no deception strategy all game long ("just hold him to a FG and it's a win!") just creates a passive, back-pedaling defense that's just not effective, unless the opposing offense sucks, or the Cowboys offense holds the ball on long drives consistently throughout the game. This is rare of course, because penalties, missed blocks, dropped passes...they happen. It's football.

Now, going back to when the Cowboys were 3-0, and the team had really good defensive stats, I (and a few others) pointed out that....yes, the Cowboys won but:
  • Dak still needs to become more accurate and make quicker decisions, because against better teams, he'll probably struggle if his acumen and accuracy don't improve
  • The defense PPG was low then, but that philosophy was destined for mediocrity against better teams, especially if they can't create more consistent pressure and more turnovers
  • The conservative coaching and slow to make in-game adjustments approach was going to come back and haunt them against better coached teams
And we all saw that the Skins game was much closer than it should have been given their talent level, and the Dolphins were in the game FAR longer than they should've been....Cowboys breaking the game open late.

But any cause for concern at 3-0 was seen as Cowboy fans "not enjoying the success", and "complainers", and "haters".

And I'm a Dak fan, but he has to get better. No doubt about it. I don't care about him leading the league in passing yards (screw the stats!). We need consistently good play for longer periods in the game from him, and earlier success in the 1st quarter (better red zone efficiency). And he's going to have to pull out some of these close games in the 4th quarter.

I could tell then that the o-line wasn't playing well, they were just facing lower-tier opponents.

Yes, the LBs were flying around making plays, but I was seeing the plays they missed (missed reads, missed tackles, etc.). And the secondary was doing OK, but still not knocking down enough passes or creating pressure-driven turnovers. The Dee line looked pretty good, but again, with no real creativity...just beating their man. Some of us knew this could change when facing better offensive lines and better schemes.

And now today for that defense? No fixing them without a new philosophy and a coach, and likely a few new players too.

And the defensive coaching? Well, at this point, we can't see them miraculously changing, bringing fresh new defenses and strategies to any game, or making immediate adjustments when necessary. So I don't know if keeping ANY of them is worthwhile in the long run. Richards may be a victim of being on a bad coaching staff, but oh well, that's life. He'll get another job.

Hec, if we see that same 3rd Down "twist" from the Dee line on every 3rd and 5+, with no creativity, I think the fans in the stadium should flat out boo....not the players, but the COACHING. Once the 3rd down is completed, I think everyone in Cowboys stadium should clap, facetiously, sarcastically....so the coaches know that we're growing tired of seeing this same ineffective crap.

And the special teams? Just putrid.

So now, at 6-7, NOW those happy-go-lucky fans at 3-0 (and it was most), they now see what some of us saw back then: These coaches, these players, these strategies, these late in-game adjustments....they're not a recipe for a 12-4 solid season.

We "complainers" didn't want to be clairvoyant back then as I would gladly eat crow now if this defense got even better and became dominant under the BBDB scheme, and if the offense became a complete juggernaut against the better coaches and defenses, but 10 games later....

Defense and Special Teams are without a doubt the culprit. Coaching game time decisions is simply garbage.
Now, Prescott Isn't God's gift to the free World and isn't even my favorite player. But the offense if producing, even though for some reason they abandon the run.
"Garbage time stats" is an overused and misused term. The game is 60 minutes long, so it's ALL important. But what do you expect Prescott to do when we're trailing over 20 points, NOT produce? Idiotic.
Here's what's actually happening. http://www.nfl.com/player/dakprescott/2555260/situationalstats.

He's just as productive in the 2nd and 3rd quarter as he is in the 4th. Of course he's getting help from the offense. And, his 1st quarter numbers are what concerns me about the offense. But the few spouting that he "fluffs his numbers in garbage time" aren't being honest or they just don't have a clue.

stat-padding scam put a * beside his stats.

Yeah I am not really sure about Tua either honestly but if he dropped to 12-14, I would take a shot.

I like Jake Fromm for a later pick actually but I think he will stay.
and teams werent sure about Jackson or Watson either. Taking QBs is a crapshoot 90% of the time. You think Baltimore GM is a genius because they took Lamar?

Stats are less than worthless.

He's the king of garbage time numbers.

LLLOOOLLL, I thought I was going to have to pull my Shannon Sharpe impersonation, whenever Skip talks about " his QB" throwing for meaningless yards after fallen so far behind to begin with.

I went to sleep, and we were in the 3rd quarter with Prescott just over 80 yards passing. Holy cow the last 20 minutes of the game Dak must have been a monster. Did they change the defense, or was Prescott just that good?
Lol!

I’m reading all the back and forth about Dak and Romo. I was not a big Romo fan. That being said, he was a lot better QB than Dak. Romo forced the ball way too often. Especially in crunch time. I’m not going thru all of Dak’s limitations again. He’s had problems in several areas of his game going back to college. You can’t fix the his problems. It is what it is.

Freeloading off of an inheritance or rich family doesn't count for you.
You can’t benefit off an inheritance when those that you know have one that benefit you are still living. My family is doing well but what I do is in a completely different profession than them so again don’t see how their money has anything to do with this. Keep throwing things at the wall something will stick.

When your defense gives up 7 touchdowns to offensive juggernauts like Buffalo and Chicago you're going to be passing a lot.

If the Cowboys actually had a lead once in awhile the passing numbers would drop and the win total would rise.
We started both games with a lead

Troy is a idiot. This whole league is full of fake stars. Matt Ryan and Matt Stefford have made a career of it but I never heard anyone ask for a asterisk next to theirs.

Glad you brought that up. I have thought that of Stafford for a long time; Ryan at least went to a Super Bowl, should have won except for moronic play calling . . . but in general, yes, you're right about him too.

One good thing came out of the Bears game. Now they think their QB is the real deal again and will stick with that loser for another couple of seasons.

Yes, like Dak will be resigned this offseason, and he'll not only be here for many years to come but also sign a franchise record new deal! ;)

You don’t get a dime of that money unless you’re on your KD burner account so don’t get why you care about his money. Signing Alex Smith Jr to a raise is stupid because he isn’t that good but this has jack expletive to do with our back and forth. You gotta lay off the drugs my man and stay on topic.

no but whom ever decided to let Lamar be Lamar and design an offense around what he does best is borderline genius.
