It’s gotta be Matt Rhule, right?

Can someone explain what it is that Rhule is good at it? Not baiting, just curious to learn more about him.

I get that he's turned two moribund programs around. But like, what is his actual specialty? Offense? Defense? Strategy? Gameday? Motivation?

And whatever it is, how does it translate to the pros? Considering that these are professionals he'd be coaching, not unpaid college kids who aren't even drinking age.

As an avid follower of a certain B12 program (not Baylor), I can say that I have paid close attention to his tenure in Waco. The 2018 season had me taking notice of his work there, including backtracking his resume to learn as much as I could.

The man seems to know how to deal with people and, more importantly, comes off as a leader of men. While not coming off as overbearing, at least to me, there is no mistaking who's in charge on the sideline. His fingerprints have shown up on every unit, because he's completely hands-on. The man has coached the offensive line, quarterbacks, linebackers (which was his position in college). He's worked as an offensive coordinator as well.

Now you might say, "So what? A lot of ex-head coaches can chalkboard just about every position group. Doesn't mean I want them as my coach." And you'd have a point. All I can say is, his knowledge has translated into success on the field. It's been at Temple and Baylor, so there really isn't going to be a lot of fanfare we might associate with more prominent Power Five programs and the successes of Ohio State or one of the SEC schools. But I would kill to see what Rhule could do with that level of talent. What I like most of all is that the man does not suffer fools. This may be an attribute that completely disqualifies him for the Dallas job, but then that dynamic isn't unique to the Cowboys. We shall see.

Most of us are familiar enough with Lincoln Riley and Urban Meyer. Meyer has been linked to this job for weeks now and and his resume is, no doubt, highly impressive. I would not have a problem with that hire. That being said, teams are going to make a run at Matt Rhule and I do believe he will be an NFL coach in 2020. If the Jets weren't completely inept, he would've led them this year. So it's not like he's this unknown commodity in NFL circles.

Gaede, I would not pretend that my words would compel anyone or shape opinion. Frankly, I do not care about that. We are all pretty much set in what we want, what we hope will happen. But you asked and I wanted to weigh in. Technically speaking, I would bet this coach is on solid footing, given his experiences. Like any head coach, his staff will go a long way in determining outcomes. Whether it's Rhule or Meyer or Roman, we simply cannot mail that in again. The assistants must have adequate NFL chops or we will continue to spin our wheels.

The trend is that Jerry tends to hire guys for head coach that have previous NFL experience. The last four hires by Jerry were all NFL established candidates (Campo, Parcells, Wade, Garrett) which is in contrast to his first three who were all brought in from the college ranks (Jimmy, Barry, and Gailey)

Rhule may return from Mexico headless. Why anyone travels there is beyond me. I get weekly classified documents about their criminal activity from that country and I would never step foot there now.
