It’s gotta be Matt Rhule, right?

*sigh*

I'll grant that you're trying extra hard.

But good luck with that methodology for your research, since (a) coaches don't ordinarily go public with their interest unless/until they know there is enough interest on the other side of the table to merit, at least, a face-to-face interview, and (b) Joneses will start the process with their own list as they always do, which will exclude some high-regard people they just know they don't want to work with.

So, but you can take comfort that Jerry obviously doesn't hire guys simply based on their public regard... so sure, a Rhule or similar candidate could sneak in to the process and maybe even pull it off to get the job offer.

My point is simply, I don't want that to happen. The job is the most prestigious, and almost no one will not want to be, at least, considered... though the caveat is acknowledged, that doesn't mean it is the most attractive job. Attractive incorporates the specifics of the job situation, which includes the current talent on the roster and the latitude the new guy would be given to do things like help shop for the groceries.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, it could be summed up as this:

The most pestigious job nobody wants coaching the most talented team that cannot win.

That about right ? ;)

Clever.

But. No.

You have your agenda, though. Far be it for reason to get in the way of it. I said what I said, and if you want a genuine discussion rather than a disingenuous one, you can go back and re-read. And, I'm not hard to find. Though, I might be less interested at this point. Again. You have your agenda.

Can someone explain what it is that Rhule is good at it? Not baiting, just curious to learn more about him.

I get that he's turned two moribund programs around. But like, what is his actual specialty? Offense? Defense? Strategy? Gameday? Motivation?

And whatever it is, how does it translate to the pros? Considering that these are professionals he'd be coaching, not unpaid college kids who aren't even drinking age.

He seems to be solid all around. I remember the Ticket guys after an interview with him looking it up, and he's been an assistant on both sides of the ball, from OL to defense to even some special teams IIRC. He has a great, likable personality while also not being a powder puff... by all reports he runs tough, physical practices.

I think a lot of the appeal is that he has some NFL experience, he isn't just an Xs and Os offensive wizard but questionable bigger picture-wise (like Riley perhaps), and he isn't an incredible recruiter who always has superior talent. Those are three of the problems with most college coaches.

Because he won by being a great recruiter at Ohio St, he is done putting the work in.

Burnt out twice

Plus he is a grade A scum bag ,

You should really do your research on a guy before bad mouthing his abilities.

And no, I'm not referring to his "scum bag" background in his personal life.

1. When asked about Riley, Jerry gushed about Rhule.
2. Jerry said he’s in no hurry to make a coaching move.
3. Rhule said he’s going to Mexico after the Sugar Bowl.
4. The Giants are reportedly worried that they might lose Rhule to Dallas, which is a weird thing to be worried about unless they know something we don’t.

It seems like there’s some smoke here. You can’t connect the same dots with Riley, Meyer, or anyone else. Riley knows Stephen, and Meyer made a comment on TV once. Okay.

I don’t get the impression that they’re interested in any other college coaches or any NFL coaches who are currently available. Maybe there’s a coordinator for a playoff team that they’re interested in, but if not, I’d bet it’s Rhule.

I'd take Rhule 10 times over Riley, but I'd take Urban 10 times over Rhule.

I wouldn't be upset, at all, to be completely honest. Fresh blood is always welcome.

Can somebody explain why everyone is so high on him? I don't watch college but judging by the records:

Matt Rhule: 47–42

Urban Meyer: 187–32 - Has brought a winning culture everywhere he's gone...and it seems like his attention to detail is immaculate.

He's coached every position group except WRs and DBs and been successful. He's also run a defense and offense, as well as special teams. To say he has intimate knowledge of how a football team runs is an understatement. It's one of the reasons he won't be undercut on staff decisions. He knows who/what works and won't have someone else's mistakes thrust upon him. He holds his players and coaches accountable while also being more than happy to take the lions share of the blame. He's had success rebuilding programs, coaching players up, and developing talent.

The real knock on Urban is being a scumbag you can't trust. We all want to win, but not at the sake of having a piece of **** human being run things.
