He's got tons more upside than the guy wer have.

Mayfield has about the worst offensive line in the NFL.

Remember Aikman the first couple years? Running for his damn life.
They already have 3 feet dug out for him in the QB graveyard. He is terrible

We'll see.

It's the Browns. They've had about 30 starting quarterbacks in the past 15 years.

I suspect Stephen has been blowing smoke about signing Dak, hoping he capitulates and decides to give the team a "friendly deal." If Dak were a likely candidate for doing that, though, he likely would have done so by now. I'm expecting Dak to be tagged. Our FO prefers to make it seem like they're willing to sign him but the money always comes first with Stephen, when push comes to shove. We will see how Dak progresses pretty soon, playing under the guidance of McCarthy. I could picture us drafting a QB this year but not until the first three rounds are spent. More pressing needs make it so.

Sounds like MM likes Dak and wants him to do the job. So I think he is signed.

Just me but I'm 100% confident Dak gets long-term deal sometime before Feb 25. My guess is his numbers will come just above Goff on a 5, not 7-year deal. In fact, coz they have to decide on Coop also, this could actually get done a couple weeks before the 25th date.

They need to do it before players like mahomes gets there contract. If they wait then it’s gonna be tough. Even though he isn’t as good as mahomes his contract will up the average QB contract.

Jerry being Jerry, the most opportune time to sign Dak would be Super Bowl Sunday. And, by "opportune" I mean the perfect storm for Jerry to garner media attention during the biggest sporting event of the year.

At this time, I don't see Mahome's contract as factor coz Dak simply doesn't have as much post-season success. That why I see the ceiling for his deal in Goff range but well below Wilson.

Side note here...fans wishing they'd tag him should be careful. If you don't like his numbers now, good lord, what you think they'll look like he QB this team to NFCCG next season and that's a not a reach at all. Coz just lined him with one of the best vet head coaches in the game. Talk until you blue, guess who's going to the most credit.........the QB, that the system works.

It's why the best his critics can hope/accept is he's getting his deal but a 5-year, 3 year out is the floor IMO.

I can see Dallas drafting a QB mid rd but given needs on DL and safety not to mention with a new staff in place and their views on roster moves I don't see Cowboys using any top pick for a QB.
Exactly. After all, that's how they drafted Dak. They do need a good backup. I'd hate to see this team do well next season only for Dak to go down at the end and have no good backup to take us to the promise land.

What to do next?

The needs at all positions in the draft and FA are not known yet and one main one is what to do with Cooper and is Gallup really ready to move to #1WR? Some good WR's in the 1st round.

If they let Jones walk, does the 1st round need not become CB and the GM loves him some CB's in the 1st.

But what about QB? Who could fall to 17? Do they really roll the dice and go for Tua with Prescott on a 1 year tag? The Tua deal would be the most interesting but a gamble and a lot of draft collateral would have to be given up. The Lions, and it's not a given that they wouldn't take Tua and let Stafford walk in 21, would be the most logical trade partner to get above Miami at 5.

Or do they take their chances with one of the lesser star QB's like Herbert, Love, Fromm or Eason?

The other unknown in this is what does the new HC think about his comeback with Prescott as his guy for the next 3-5 years, knowing he's not likely to ever be Tier 1 and will need the team around him?

The bottom line question is this. Do you trust this FO with tagging the QB and making the right moves or just signing him to a 5 year deal and being done with it with fewer decisions to make?

I think the right move is to tag him and give him a year in Big Mike's system but the other moves that have to take place and their history with the QB position makes me lean toward that bird in the hand situation.

But his is not whether to tag him or not. The assumption is he is tagged, what are the next moves?

Can you imagine this when Dak signs his long-term deal........

If he does get signed for a long term deal it hopefully would be because hes worthy of it. That salary he reportedly holding out for would be considered Elite money. In as much as the Wentz and Goff contracts have set the bar, its also been an eye opener as to making sure the money matches the talent. Franchise him (unless his demands go down) and draft for the future. I just dont see the risk in that
