I ve been a fan of this team for 50+ years.
Ever since FA appeared, we have tried to beat the system and try to circumvent the rules.
Now the system has boxed us into a corner.
The team has tried Dak as the Franchise QB and just can't get it done.
Multi-million dollar OL..
Multi-million dollar RB..
soon to be multi-million dollar WR..
soon to be multi-million dollar QB
No titles on the wall..
HC and staff just fired.
Sorry.
Paying Dak at this point will destroy this team for the next 5 years or however long Dak is signed for.
The Jones made a huge decision to finally end the Garrett Experiment in favor of a real football coach.
They righted the ship. But now they are about to mortgage all the future on Dak?
Beyond belief to me.
We have worked for decades to fix our cap, draft wisely, hire capable executives like Will Clay to steer the course..
and we are going to sink everything into a 4th rd draft pick who has come up short like Dak has?
Impossible to believe but it's about to happen.
Whoda think it?
Don't want to beat this into the ground but this team is really in a pickle.
Pass the ketchup and chili.
I need something to disguise this hotdog as I am being asked to eat this thing as a fan.
I know there are tons of threads screaming about alternative paths for this.
As I look at teams who have paid their QBs the big contract, I see them on the sidelines and not playing for a SB.
The Vikes, Packers, Commanders, Pat's, Chargers, Carolina and several others nailed to cap numbers that are designed to stop their ambitions.
Only the 9ers with Jimmy G is paid and playing for a title. But look closely.
He did not have a great season. He completed like 6 passes in each half of the NFC Championship.
I think if that is what it takes..
then keep your money Jerrah.
Let Dak walk and find another QB. I could care less if Dak has the team over a barrel or visa versa.
If Dallas pulls the contract off the table..we are free of all this. Dak can hope some other team to spend the huge salaries required to support his average skill sets.
They won't. Plus pay him $35 mil/yr?
Not going to happen.
I would prefer letting McCarthy go find a QB he wants and play ball.
Draft a defense and another QB or sign a FA QB and in a couple of years before all the offensive guys we have signed start retiring. .
we will have a real shot.
For once I want to see a coordinated push with management, coaching and players and fans united in a clear goal we all agree can work.
Too much to ask?

If you listen to some of these posters, you would think Dak was the entire reason the team under achieved. Many of them will respond that they also know the coaching was bad. Which makes no sense, because if they truly believe that, then they would realize the bad coaching permeates throughout the entire team.Ask yourselves. Why is he even in the DISCUSSION to get a pay day? How does his QBR, stats, passer rating, win % stack up last year and since drafted? How does he stack against his peers? ie Carson Wince in every statistical measure? So you have to pay a guy at or close to the going rate for his position? He's out performed his contract? So the OP suggests to let him walk, start all over and then what? Hope that whomever we go with outperforms his contract like Dak did? Then what? So we didn't win a SB on Dak's rookie deal? Is this all on Dak's shoulders? Is that the conclusion? Ask yourselves why did we fire an entire coaching staff?
He’s going to get $35-$40 million. Is he the best QB? Nope. Is he good enough to win with? Absolutely. Pay the man and concentrate on signing Amari.
Why is everyone so surprised? This was going to happen eventually....
Its kind of weird how you make the 35m number. You are pretending we are going to let Dak walk away and find a guy off the streets to come in and play for free now?So you are going to hamstring the coach with 35 million less in talent per year and expect better results than the past?
This is wrong.Good enough to win isn't worth 40 mill. Paying Dak that much automatically means we're going to suck in other areas. We aren't the Chiefs, where Mahomes is so good, you can dump money on him and your team will still be good.

I would be very interested to hear your thoughts, specific thoughts, on what the Cowboys do next year for a QB if they send Dak on his way into free agency?I ve been a fan of this team for 50+ years.

Well obviously you are going to pay somebody but the point remains the same. Dak could not get it done with the current salary structure but somehow you expect them to get it done with 35 million less. Its kind of weird how you make the 35m number. You are pretending we are going to let Dak walk away and find a guy off the streets to come in and play for free now?
Or do you want to sign a journeyman like Chase Daniels $10m per year to struggle. Thats a $25m net not $35m.
This thing where modern day fans keep pretending every team with a QB making QB money is somehow handicapped by the salary just shows a lack of knowledge about the big picture. Which players are we losing because we can't afford to keep them all of a sudden? Byron Jones? B Jones is much easier replaceable than a QB is. Regardless of what Dak agrees to play for we are not the team to go spend big money overpaying guys like Sammy Watkins 16m per year in free agency.
I’m gonna see if MM can make him better. That’s fair. Now if he sucks under MM then we had better hope we can cut or trade him.
I don’t hate him or like him. He’s all right I guess
Dak may be here 6-7 years but asterisk passing yards and disappearing in big games and against quality teams like the Jets that's laughable. Mr Dak Stats against the scrubs, oh forgot 9 points against the scrubs in the biggest game of the year, that's old Mr clutch Stat Dak, you sir are a joke. You support a Jerry endorsed QB, talk about the kiss of death. Not sure why thinking Dak is average to good causes so much anxiety for folks like you. Hope you enjoy the mediocrity you enjoy and relish because it's been here for 4 years and will most likely be here for 4 or more.
