f) QB can slip on the kneel down and fumble away the ball.
Probably shouldn't even hike it.
The sarcasm oozes from this post lol I love it

Winning this division this year won't mean much. Its just a ticket to a first round home playoff loss. Is that enough to bring Garrett back?

What about taking three kneel downs and then have Romo run around on 4th down and take a safety? How much time would be left?
Forget wasting time. I wanted a first down. A first down in this situation ices the game. No part of me thought that kicking a fg there would win the game. I believe Romo was arguing for this right before that last 3rd down play.
Afraid so.............Jerry can sell all of those "division champs" T-shirts and caps on the website for $39.99
Opie either wins the division (possibly by default) or he is gone.
Hey they can hang a banner & sell a few NFC EAST CHAMP tshirts.
Jerry would like that.

Haha, I'd buy one if he had the stones to print NFC Least champs on it.
I don't agree with the kneel-down notion. With Detroit still possessing a timeout and us out of field-goal range prior to Tanner's penalty-inducing run, three kneel downs would have still left the need to punt and roughly 30 seconds on the clock. Plus, a run play inherently takes a few extra seconds off the clock than a kneel down.
With that said, I'm not surprised we found a way to muck it up. If anything, I'm surprised Tanner didn't find a way to run out of bounds on his run. Our situational football IQ remains incredibly suspect, lending to moments like those where Smith holds in a situation where seemingly his primary assignment is not to do just that.
A lot of people, including me, shouted at the TV for Garrett to kneel down on the 3rd and 14, there was no way they were going to get a first down running down the middle, only bad things could happen if they did. And guess what? One of those bad things happened, and we lost.
I can't state this enough, all we needed for a win was for the QB to take a knee.
FG position meant nothing at this time. We didn't need a FG. The precious time was important. Waste every second there was. Take a delay of game. And punt. And leave Detroit with maybe 25 seconds and on their 20 and no timeouts. Game over.
But we just keep finding ways to lose.
I'd put the I
blame on Smith for the stupid holding penalty before I put it on Garrett for the play calling in that scenario.
Smith may be a total idiot, but its the coaching staffs job to educate player on siIuational football. Of course, that's hard when the coaches themselves struggle with situational football.

what a moronic rule
Call me crazy, but with 12 seconds left I thought it was possible to get a throw down field & out of bounds then a field goal. Seems like they didn't have a plan for the last few seconds.
It was 3rd and 14 with 1:14 on the clock at the 35, let's say Tony takes the ball back some 10 yards to the 45 and kneels down taking some 7 or 8 seconds off the clock, that leaves 1:07 plus the 40 (you take the delay of game) that leaves 27 seconds before the punt. Say the punt takes 6 seconds and you leave Detroit at the 20 at best with 21 seconds without a TO. thats the ball game right there.
All we needed to win was for our QB to take a knee, how sad is that.
