I agree, and what you just said is a prime example of how poorly they're run. I don't think it's a good idea that players are asked their opinions on personnel issues. So the fact that they asked him first put Watson in a no win situation. They gave him too much power. With that happening I wouldn't want Watson to feel he could have that power in Dallas.Watson isn't asking to pick the GM or coach, the FO came to him wanting his input on who he'd prefer. He gave them a list supposedly and they didn't even interview anyone on the list. From what I heard, he wasn't asking for poor choices either. Why the hell would you ask him for his opinion then throw it in the trash? Texans are one of, if not, the worst run team in the league.
It reminds me when Jerry got Troy's input on which TE to draft in '98. Troy worked out a couple and then they drafted David LeFluer. In my opinion that sends a bad message to the rest of the team that one guy can influence who gets drafted. Owners pick GM's and coaches and players. The players play. Any diveation of that and you develop a dysfunctional environment were some players have more power than others and that can cause division in the locker room.
I don't fault Watson as much as the Texans. But I wouldn't want Watson on my team if he is used to having an opinion on personnel. That would be toxic.
