Just my opinion and it may be obvious, but now that the Romo window is officially over, I think Dallas FO is more determined now than ever to build this team through the draft. They no longer have a 1-2 year window hanging over their head where they feel like they need to make a big FA slpash (Carr or Hardy) to get them over the top. They are content in finding the next McClain, Church, Twill through the draft while saving the cap space for long term deals for the truly special and young players on their roster (i.e Martin).

I don't know if I agree with that, but as long as they continue to deliver strong drafts like they have recently, its hard to argue against it.

By the time you do, you no longer have Witten, Lee, Dez, Carr, and 10-12 others. Today's rookies will all be free agents.

You can build a core through the draft, but you need to augment with free agency, too. The Patriots do it all the time.

True, but unfortunately a couple bad deals pretty much took them out of the FA market where pieces to augment your roster became very expensive. The money being spent on Romo to not be on the roster is pretty much 1 FA target, and the money given to Crawford pretty much cost you another FA target. Keep in mind the no1 priority this off-season was to sign Martin to a long term deal.

This is a lesson to be very careful on the contracts you give out. Some you cant foresee, such as the Romo deal, but the Crawford deal was entirely avoidable.

The plan is the same as always.

Get more mediocre in FA, sign our own to longer deals that we will restructure every year, and hope for the best in the draft while drafting someone with a premium pick that helps us none next year.

Its kinda funny, if your in the mood for it. We give Tony a chance to make a free agency tour, and we can't even spend the money til free agency is pretty much over.

Give him a chance to win a SB, and we can't even do it with the money we get ourselves.
Perhaps they'll learn to never give that kind of ridiculous contract to any player ever again...

I agree with Romo likely being dealt it changes the "window" from 1-2 years we heard forever to 10-12 years with Dak :)

I think it's smart staying away from these FA, that money being thrown around is ridiculous, the defense would not be such an issue if we don't swing and miss when drafting, Smith, Gregory and Lawrence...if we actually drafted productive players instead of these 3 players then the D wouldn't be in such sad shape...not to mention trading up for MC, what a waste...this teams number 1 priority in the off-season should have been hiring a talent elevator for the defense, because its pretty clear no one on this current team can evaluate defensive players...
