14,000,000 in cap space

Romo's salary cap charge is still $24.7 million until June 2nd with a June -1 release, so we are still at 9 million (minus what we paid Brice):

Article 13, Section 6 (b) (ii) Acceleration.
(1) For any player removed from the Team's roster, or whose Contract is assigned to another Club via waivers or trade, on or before June 1 in any League Year prior to the Final League Year, or at any time during the Final League Year, any unamortized signing bonus amounts will be included in Team Salary for such League Year, except that for each League Year preceding the Final League Year, each Club may designate up to two Player Contracts that, if terminated on or prior to June 1 and if not renegotiated after the last regular season game of the prior League Year, shall be treated (except to the extent prescribed by Section 6(d) (iv) below) as if terminated on June 2, i.e., the Salary Cap charge for each such contract will remain in the Club's Team Salary until June 2, at which time its Paragraph 5 Salary and any unearned LTBE incentives will no longer be counted and any unamortized signing bonus will be treated as set forth in Subsection (2) below. If acceleration puts a Team over the Salary Cap, the Team will have seven days to conform with the Salary Cap, but may not sign any players until there is Room to do so under the Salary Cap.

Is it officially a June 1st cut or not?

I don't know. Jerry said June 1st but he has not yet been officially released (to my knowledge).

I was just replying to the post June 1st scenario.

Thanks for the effort sir but we already know this. There's no confirmation on if it's a post June 1st cut or not. We'll either have 9 million or 14 million. An immediate release (not June 1st) yields us 5.1 million immediately.

Where did I say anything about how we will play? I said we don't know. We could lose every game but we could also win every game. Injuries happen, trades happen.....you know what panic and complain all you want. Tired of the same fans whining about everything even when we have a great season
Amen. Last season was delightful!

We had about 9 million and if Romo is not a June 1st cut we gain 5.1 million sir. 9 million plus 5.1 is 14 million sir.
LOL @ the pitiful little cap space being counted like it matters.

This was to get Romo what he wanted. The cap space is minimal and still leaves us with the CLOSED sign on the door in regards to free agency.

I still do not understand how so many people are still deluded that once free agency begins that Dallas will be able or actually be inclined to do, anything.

Wake up and smell the coffee, folks.

I know 5.1 million isn't a lot but it's enough to re-sign Carr and Wilcox if you make the deals right. Heavy signing bonus year 1 and balloon year 2. Lets say you give Carr 2 years 10 million make his base 2.5 million and the other 2.5 a bonus and give Wilcox 4 years 16 million ....

So why would these players take deals we have to finagle when they can go practically anywhere else and get more upfront money?

Psst. They won't.

We cannot compete in free agency. No matter how much some like to pretend we are able to.

I don't know lets see what the market is for them. Carr has stated he wants to stay in Dallas. Wilcox seems like he'll go for money. If church got 6 million a year(which is reasonable) I don't see how Wilcox could get more than 4/5 a year. We would be able to pay 4/5 a year.

So what are we going to do with our secondary? Looks like all draft picks and cheap signings. Well, maybe Claiborne is coming back.

Right now, I can only forecast FAIL.

They might get Carr to come back. He does know how to collect a fat check and I don't see much of a market for him.

It doesn't really matter. We can restructure other guys to get the money now and it ends up being a wash. We have $54m more to spend than we had before.

I don't like where the defense is heading.

I don't see any improvement. All on zeke, the line and dak again next year. Will kill us when we have to go to either Green Bay or Seattle or even the meadowlands

If (and yes, it's a big IF) Tapper and Smith are healthy next season and can be big time contributors, it will be like adding two free agents to our D. So, we've got that going for us, which is nice. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this comes to pass.

I'm seeing this offseason as the beginning of a rebuilding, a quick rebuild but still a rebuild. Nice thing is the team has the bulk of an incredibly talented OL about to be under contract, an electric RB and Pro Bowl-caliber receiver, a promising 2nd year QB under a friendly contract for 3 more years, and money that should be coming free in the next couple of years as long as we don't keep kicking the can down the road.

Sets up for a down year next season, but if we get a nice set of comp picks and end up with higher draft picks along with the aforementioned money for FA, things look good for the next several years. Romo's gone. Team doesn't need to be in win-now mode.
