I agree, but we could of made some calls to the Broncos or Titans and maybe got a 6th out of someone

Wouldn't have happened. The moment we solicited a trade, everyone would know prior negotiations had failed and we'd be releasing him soon.

Great info! Thanks for your time and effort.

We are in better shape than I thought. I don't always understand it so I wait for Adam and whatever he says I know to be right. See! You don't have to understand it. Just know somebody who does. Isn't that also the way it is in life?

Update (9/5/08) -- After cutting to 53 players and signing our practice squad, we're now $7,386,308 under the cap, pending any injury settlements (Ronnie Cruz and Cory Lekkerkerker each got one, and Tyler Everett might get one, too).

A few player notes --

-- Keith Davis signed a one-year contract with the veteran's minimum salary benefit. He got a $40,000 signing bonus and a base salary of $605,000. But by rule, he counts only $485,000 against the cap, and $160,000 of his salary is paid for out of a league-wide pool, not by the team.

-- Montrae Holland's cap number is $1.4 million.

-- Each practice squad player counts $88,400 against the cap.

-- Tyler Everett apparently was waived/injured. His $215,000 split salary is listed as counting against the cap right now. If we reach an injury settlement with him, his cap hit obviously would go way down.

Excellent work as always, Adam.

Any chance we try to save some of that cap room for next year using the LTBE incentives loophole? I can't see Dallas doing much else with it, save maybe giving Canty a frontloaded new deal.

Whatever we have left at the end of the year, or with a week or two left, will be pushed forward using the incentive loophole. Unless there's a CBA extension before the 2009 season, maximizing next year's cap room will be very important because of all of the rules and restrictions that apply to the "final capped year."

I am a Cowboys fan...but if they get eliminated I root for other teams based on players I like or whether they are facing a team I hate.

For instance......in the SB, I rooted for the Giants, cause I hate the Pats even more.....plus Aaron Ross is one of my favorite CBs in the NFL and is one of my all-time favorite Longhorns.

I rooted for the Browns, to win the AFC, a lot during the 80s cause I hated the Broncos, and I was a Eric Metcalf is my all-time favorite college player.

I rooted for the Chiefs, to win the AFC, a lot in the 90s because I was a huge fan of Derrick Thomas.

Right now I like the Colts a lot, because of Manning, Freeney, and Clark. So if they make it to the SB I am happy

I am also a fan of the Titans because they have Vince Young...and several other Longhorns. So if they win the AFC, I would be completely stoked. Ironically, Detroit has a ton of Longhorns as well, but I cant stand them.

I don't have any NFC Teams I root for except Dallas. I hate every other NFC Team. So I root for Dallas to meet the Colts, Titans, Chiefs, or even Texans every year in the SB......with Dallas winning of course.

For me it is Dallas a clear cut #1....then the few AFC teams I like a way distanct 31.....then every other team in the league at 32, with Washington being at the very bottom.....cause they are bottom feeding scumbags.

Adam: what is your take on what the boys can AFFORD to pay Ware?
With more and more the probability that we are going to have to keep Columbo (with our young tackles frankly not looking all that good) what is your take on keeping both of them (obviously ware is much more important).

Adam, supposing 2009 is the final capped year, does that mean Canty is not a UFA at the end of the year? I had heard allusions to UFA not kicking in until 6 years under these conditions.

Adam,

Will you be providing a list of each player's respective 2008 Cap Charge Number (Active, Injured Reserve, Practice Squad, & Dead Money)?

Furthermore, I have seen conflicting information on the 2008 Draft Picks Contract Details, can you please provide the correct Contract information.

Thank you in advance.

I would like if we could get an update on the Williams contract and Pacman intervention and how those are on the CAP for this year.
Thank you.

Update (10/23/08) -- After signing Roy E. Williams to a contract extension, we're now $6,270,045 under the cap. This includes the money saved by Adam Jones' suspension (we'll gain more cap room if he doesn't return to the team after four weeks total), but it does not yet include Daren Stone's contract. Stone almost certainly will count $217,657, but I'll wait for the official numbers.

Here are Roy E.'s cap numbers --

2008 $391,471
2009 $5,655,900
2010 $7,352,629
2011 $9,009,971
2012 $10,702,000
2013 $12,398,000
2014 $10,900,000

There is no reason for the players to worry about having a cap or not having a cap.

That is a combined 221 million under the cap. They say that once the players have no cap they will not ever go back to one. The above shows that it does not matter since the cap has gone so high.

I think whatever new deal that is worked out is going to be completely different from what they have now if the players are intent on getting their share of the revenue. It has to become a socialist league for that to happen.

My question is why would Detroit and Chicago be so high on the CAP?

The other teams I could understand.

Can anyone update this thread on where we will be at with the Roy signing. I have heard that we are in serious trouble in the near future, (next 3 yrs). Is this true?
