Update (6/4/08) -- Terrell Owens got a $12.9 million signing bonus, and he has a $3.1 million roster bonus due next season. His base salaries are $830,000 this season, $2.67 million in 2009, $7.5 million in 2010 and $7 million in 2011.

His cap numbers --

2008 $5,728,388
2009 $8,995,000
2010 $10,725,000
2011 $10,225,000

Because of the uncapped year in 2010, his contract has to follow the 30 percent rule for 2009, 2010 and 2011. His 2009 salary (base plus roster bonus) is $5.77 million. Thirty percent of that is $1.731 million. That means his salaries for 2010 and 2011 can't increase by more than that. His actual increase for 2010 is $1.730, and it actually decreases by $500,000 for 2011.

If the CBA is extended before 2009, his roster bonus and/or the amount of his base salary above the minimum can be prorated, which could lower his cap number to as little as $5.712 million (saving about $3.283 million of cap room).

Before the extension, Owens' cap number for this season was $8,673,388, which means we saved $2.945 million with his new contract. That leaves us $8,284,718 under the cap.

So we can't spread TO's original signing bonus over the extension at all?

No, prorations don't extend, they only accelerate.

Thank you, Adam. We can do just about anything we need (or want) to do with that kind of cap space.

Adam, how much would you guess will be awarded in LTBE incentives so the $$ can be carried over to next year?

Whatever's left at the end of the year.

How much that is will depend on how many guys we extend before the end of the year, among other things.

How many years is Terry Glenn under contract for?

If Jerry Jones releases him? How much of a cap hit would it be?

Glenn is under contract through 2010. If we release him now, we would save $1.7 million of cap room this season and $650,000 in 2009.

Romo's cap number is $4,574,219, and Davis' is $5,173,386.

Next season, Romo's is $4,582,499, and Davis' is $4,166,666.

Adam,

Can you provide the details of Romo and Davis' restructured contracts. Was the restructure only for 2008 or for 2009 and beyond.

This looks like a nice contract setup for the Cowboys. Essentially can be a 2 year deal.

Adam, do you have the total cap dollars committed for 2009? Is the team currently over the projected cap number? I have skins fans on another board claiming that with all the deals, Dallas has to be over next year's cap. Thanks in advance.

I hope we hand Hamlin a nice extension soon with this money from TO's contract and possibly Glenn's release.

We have $104.1 million committed to next year's cap, but $5.7 million of that will disappear when Zach Thomas' and Kevin Burnett's contracts void. So we really have $98 million committed.

The Commanders have more than $121 million committed to 2009 right now, which is the fourth-most in the league.

Thanks Adam. What do you expect the cap to be raised to next year?

BTW, that's an amazing amount of money that the Commanders have allocated considering their extreme lack of talent or even average players for that matter.

Adam, I noticed you are on other team or fan sites. Are you a Cowboy's fan or NFL fan in general? Thanks for your updates.

I'm a Cowboys fan. I've never even had a "second favorite" team. I visit lots of other teams' message boards to see what fans are saying, and I occasionally post on them, but I'm not a fan of any other team at all.
