I think we ought to package our 3 compensatory picks and move up as far as possible in the 1st round. :flagwave:

I know we can't trade them. I just wondered what it felt like to totally ignore facts and explanations given by previous posters in bold.

It is based partially on salary of the new deal. I am merely following a prediction by AdamJT13 a few months back.

Well, I would definitely concede to his knowledge of the subject over my own.

If Adam says it, it must be true.

He knows his stuff.

I have seen several mocks that have Spikes as a 1st or 2nd rounder

I have seen DJ going as high as the 2nd in a few mocks as well

2nd round+, then. :D

Good stuff, Hos.

A few defensive players I like in rounds 3+:

Brandon Swain, West Texas A&M - OLB
Ron Brace, Boston College - NT
Brandon Spikes, Florida - ILB
Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan - ILB
Domonique Johnson, Jackson State - CB

Spikes is only a junior, but if he were to come out he would probably be the best ILB in the draft (Yes, ahead of Maualuga and Laurinitis).

you can't package your compensation picks or trade them

you can only trade your draft picks or the ones that you receive in trades like dallas did with cleveland, detroit and miami

I think Bobby Carpenter gets moved this off-season so we will probably add a 5th or 6th to that list. If we re-sign Burnett it's pretty much guaranteed Carpenter is gone.

I can also seeing us trading 1 of these 3 WR's..Crayton, Austin, or Hurd.

Normally I like having a lot of drat picks but I think with the overall talent on this roster we should either :

Trade up and try to land a few impact players. 2nd round or 3rd round guys who will contribute or have long-term potential.

or

trade down and pick up picks for the next year. Think of it like a Savings Account. We don't need the money right now but in a few years when we need it, it's there.

He is something.

I think a big NT could be a focus of the draft depending on whats in the draft at that position. A lot of the speculation on what we need to get isn't up to the Cowboys, entirely. It's a matter of the supply being there to meet our demand.

You're always going to find some OL and ILB depth in a draft but getting big contributors at the NT position, in the form of monsters, aren't necassarily going to be falling off trees come draft day.

Speaking of big NT's have you guys seen that "Mount" Cody kid on Alabama?

He may be too big but he's making an immediate impact for the Tide after playing JuCo ball last year. Imagine the poor 5'11" 245 pound JuCo centers trying to stop that guy the past 2 years.

I'd put LB at the top of the priority list.

Ware is pretty much our only LB without issue.

Spencer looks like the real deal, but has been showing a tendency to get dinged.

James is a two down player with limited ability. He's played well for us, but there is no reason we shouldn't be looking for an upgrade.

Thomas is a playmaker and a tackling machine, but it looks as if he's finally starting to lose a step. He went to high school with CBz40.

Carpenter is obviously not what we thought he was going to be. Plays like he's terrified of contact.

Burnett is constantly injured. He's likely gone next year.

Rogers and Polk are essentially special teamers.

We're hurting at linebacker on a defense that has under achieved for several years now. We need a LB in the second IMO. Inside preferably.

Exactly. We definitely need an ILB, and badly.

At least the coaches seem to know it... Remember, we actually had Keith Rivers in for an interview last year before the draft.

It's too early to be talking about where players will be fall in the draft etc. I'll just hypothetically speak on what I would do on the draft.

In the 2nd round I would not be objected to using a 4th/5th to move up if a target player were to fall. It would take a 2nd/3rd browns/4th lions for the cowboys to move up to the late 1st round.

I was going to post the rest but something came up and have to go.

yep, im expecting either a linebacker that has nasty attitude or a big huge offensive linemen with the first pick in 2nd round

Great job.

The guy I like will be long gone in round one.

Andre Smith OT Alabama

He might be a guard in the NFL. However, he can move, and he has been excellent at LT.

Most likely our initial pick will be in 58-64 range. I just can't see Jerry sitting there, waiting that long to hear his own name on ESPN...errrr, I mean make a selection.

chris, i think the same thing, jerry will package either one of his 4th or 5th or maybe both of them to go get a player in top part of the second round.

or he might even trade crayton or hurd, curtis or carpenter to help move up in the 2nd round, and keep those extra 4th and 5th picks.

I think we are definitely gonna end up going quality over quantity in this draft with so many late picks and so few holes.

I wouldn't be surprised if we only end up drafting 5-6 players, though that might be real tough to pull off.
