#1, #3 and #6 gone. Dallas is back to Galloway trap - our draft in 2009 is rather backstage to Roy #11 now.

Since you're a Pats fan, why do you use 'our' when talking about the Cowboys?

Dude, we are gonna have 11 picks. That's backstage? Take your midol.

No it isn't. There are 12 picks left instead of 15.

We're hardly crippled and in the meantime we get production in 2008.

It's called a bonus.

12, not 11.

Gosh, we could end up with RW and a couple picks in the 30's - 40's area(with Jerry the trader), where some real juicy value always lies;)

Very easily.

Meanwhile a 1st round pick would not start most likely and cost a lot.

Probably so. Jerry will work hard to use those picks in trades and moving up. Having some extra picks the first day would be very nice. With the talent on this team I'd bet they look for quality over quanity.

I suppose guys like Canty, Spears, Tank, KB, Pac, etc... can't/won't ALL be kept, so it would be nice to have a couple three picks in the 35-65 area. I'm just hoping Colombo is kept.

Good stuff, Hos.

A few defensive players I like in rounds 3+:

Brandon Swain, West Texas A&M - OLB
Ron Brace, Boston College - NT
Brandon Spikes, Florida - ILB
Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan - ILB
Domonique Johnson, Jackson State - CB

I like Swain, Holtzclaw and Johnson a lot... however, Domonique looks like a pretty solid second rounder right now... the two linebackers are likely to still be on the board in the 6th or 7th rounds...

Brace is another late round prospect, I wonder if he has the quickness needed to be a good NT in the NFL... he's the type of player whose future in the NFL might lie in moving to the OL...

I think we are definitely gonna end up going quality over quantity in this draft with so many late picks and so few holes.

I wouldn't be surprised if we only end up drafting 5-6 players, though that might be real tough to pull off.

I think you're dead wrong about that...

I say that because I don't see the Boys being players in free agency next offseason, they're gonna want to dedicate their cap room to keeping their own free agents...

But EVERY NFL team, no matter how good, needs to churn the bottom of their roster each year... an average NFL team will have 12-13 new players on their roster at the start of each season, the lesser talented teams often have 15 or more...

So I see Jerry possibly packaging a couple-three picks to move up with his 2nd rounder, but I think he's gonna want to try to bring in 10 rookie draft picks or so to compete in training camp...

Teams without a lot of cap room have to focus on building through the draft, and because of the talent on this roster, the Boys won't have a lot of cap room for other teams' free agents... this is actually a good thing...

Which means we have no draft picks next year... oh wait, we still have ELEVEN of them...

Including a 3rd rounder and two 6th rounders...

our draft in 2009 is rather backstage to Roy #11 now.

Works for me-- Roy is still young, and a better talent than anything we could have drafted late in the first round... we still have a slew of picks to work with...

I can just start scratching off the players in my top 40... this rather simplifies my draft preparation, LOL...

He's a regular tackling machine (330 tackles in his first 3 years), but he'd probably be best as a pure 4-3 middle 'backer... I just don't know if he has the cover skills needed to play ILB in a 3-4...

actually that's not exactly correct. we are getting the lions' 7th rounder, which will not be possible without the roy williams trade, thus it should be 12 picks instead of 14, assuming we get a pick for nate jones.

That is going to be a problem however like you said he is a tackling machine and outside zach we really don't have a LB'r that's always around the ball.

Valid point. I still think we need to be prepared to see a few more trades to reduce our number of picks.

The chances of us not making deals is zero percent.

Jerry just can't help himself.

Besides, we don't need all those picks.

That is exactly what I mean. No way he keeps that many. Too many of them would be wasted on kids who can't make the team. Which is exactly why I said he would go ahead and give up a Draft pick for Beck instead of trying to draft a backup QB.
