This is the list of final 15 candidates.

Tim Brown
Cris Carter
Don Coryell
Roger Craig
Dermonti Dawson
Richard Dent
Russ Grimm
Charles Haley
Rickey Jackson
Cortez Kennedy
John Randle
Andre Reed
Jerry Rice
Shannon Sharpe
Emmitt Smith

Dick LeBeau...Seniors Committee Candidate
Floyd Little...Seniors Committee Candidate

The max number from the top list who can go in is 5. Both Seniors candidates can go in.

I am shocked that Floyd Little is one of the Seniors candidates. I would take Don Perkins over him any day of the week. Maybe if Little gets in it opens a door for Perkins.

LeBeau is known more for his coaching than his playing career, but part of that is because he played opposite Dick "Night Train" Lane. If he makes it, look no further than his 62 career interceptions. He was only a 3 time Pro Bowl player although he probably deserved a 4th for 9 INTs in 1970. If he gets in it might open a door for Everson Walls.

Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are no brainers. I think it is a bad year to be a WR and get in. Brown, Carter, and Reed all deserve to be in one day, but not in the same class as Jerry Rice.

I'll say Shannon Sharpe, Dermonti Dawson, and Charles Haley have decent shots this year as well as Don Coryell (though I am not sure he is a HOF Coach).

I think they should have it be Emmitt and Jerry by themselves and have the HOF game be Dallas vs. San Francisco. But that will never happen.

Jerry Rice should be the last speaker. No disrespect to Emmitt, but Jerry was other worldly.

Other than Emmitt and Jerry the only other no brainer to me is Haley. He should already be in the HOF. Of the others maybe Chris Carter and Shannon Sharpe.

In an all time draft I'd take Irvin over Rice 2x on tuesday-friday, 5x on sunday and 100x on a primetime Monday game.

I'll explain why.

During the 49ers peak, they threw 536 passes per season, during the Cowboys they threw 482. The difference in stats is not that much that if the Cowboys were throwing the same passes, Irvin would've surpassed Rice.

and their averages through 1991-1995

YDS Team Pass Attempts
Michael Irvin 1991-1995 1419 482
Jerry Rice 1991-1995 1451 536

So is the argument still futile? because I believe in those 54 passes Irvin would've caught 32 yards

No, he is clearly worse. Irvin was 500 and 6 times better.

Who the hell bases a 20 year career over the span over 4 years? Not to mention the players final 5 years?

Your reaching to support an argument you dont really believe. I'm sorry, I dont buy for a minute you believe what your saying but are simply trying to do it for your Cowboys pride.

I'm not saying Rice isn't a HOF player, because he was great. But I think he gets a little too much praise. He had some serious advantages most WR's could only dream of.....

2 of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. I hate the niners too, but Montana and Young were just otherworldly.

6 games a year against teams that were barely NFL quality. Think of the quality of teams like the Rams, Falcons, and the Saints in the 80's and 90's. They were absolutely putrid.

No cold weather games.
8 per year in 60 degree San Francisco
1 in Atlanta (dome)
1 in Los Angeles
1 in New Orleans (dome)

Great weather + Great quarterbacks + inferior competition = Great numbers

Again, don't get me wrong, I think he would be a great player on just about any team, but I don't think he would be called "GOAT" if he didn't land on the perfect team, at the perfect time, with the niners.

Just my two cents though.

Put me on a lie detector, I believe everything im saying. and what do you mean final years? Rice played til 02 and Irvin til 99. It was both of their primes.

does it not occur to you that part of their greatness comes from the fact that he had the best receiver of all time to throw to?

AGREED.

Irvin was up against the toughest division in Football, in much worse weather, although he had a hall of fame QB for all but his first year aswell.
